Devon took a quick shower and brushed his teeth.

To get his day started.

And when it turned seven in the morning, he headed out of his room and went straight for the cafeteria.Full novel: INNERWORLD — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"Good morning."

Devon greeted the women who were preparing breakfast, and they responded with smiles and their own greeting.

He just took some food from the serving line and found a seat by the window—enjoying the taste of the cereal and the view of the outside.

It was still dark skies, with no sign of sun anywhere, but he found peace in the quiet morning—it was actually quite nice.

There weren’t too many at the cafeteria this early in the morning—just a few who also woke up early—other students must still be in bed.

After he was done eating, he took the tray to the dish return and then immediately headed back for his room.

When he returned, there were few doors finally open—sleepy-looking people walked like zombies in the hallway.

Devon entered his room and knocked on Ned’s door.

"Time to wake up!"

He then went to the kitchen, poured cold water into a cup, and watched with the corner of his eye as Ned’s door slowly opened.

Glassless Ned zombie-walked out of his bedroom with crazy bed hair, eyes half-closed, and a groggy expression on his face.

"Good morning."

Devon said.

"Y-yeah..."

Ned lazily waved his hand, and then he went to the bathroom to wash his face, and a short moment later, he stepped back out.

Looking slightly more refreshed.

He quickly went back to his room to get his glasses, and then he returned, looking a little bit more lively.

"What’s the time?"

"Half past seven."

Devon said.

"That means classes are starting soon. I’d better dress up quickly!"

Ned said hurriedly and ran back inside his room, and Devon did the same—because there was a uniform they all had to wear.

He took the uniform from the closet—it was already here before they moved in—and put it on.

The school uniform was neat without looking entirely comfortable. He had a crisp white shirt tucked beneath a dark navy blazer.

A striped tie rested at his collar, pulled just tightly enough to still be able to breathe, and his trousers were pressed into sharp lines, falling neatly over a pair of polished black shoes.

The blazer bore the Box’s embroidered crest over his chest, a small silver emblem that stood out against the deep navy fabric.

While the boys had proper trousers, the girls wore skirts with pleated hems that swayed elegantly as they walked.

However, in the hallway, there were some rebellious souls—having either rolled sleeves or ties dangling loosely around their necks.

’There is not that much time anymore.’

Devon checked the time through his phone, and then he went to the hallway and saw that everyone was just getting their day started.

The classes were starting soon.

He walked towards a golden bell—it was dangling from a wall—it was put there for a good reason, and he had reason to use it now.

He grabbed the bell’s handle and gave it a loud ring—it attracted a lot of attention—everyone peeked their heads from their doorways.

"We will be leaving in ten minutes!"

Devon shouted with a commanding tone.

It made everyone hurry up—the gold watch made most of them listen to him—but there were, of course, few that didn’t care.

Devon kept his eye on time, and as time kept ticking by, more and more students appeared on their doorways.

Standing in attention.

Like they were waiting to leave for the classroom.

"Yawn~!"

At that moment, Devon heard a loud yawn—it came from Nathaniel’s direction—but it wasn’t him who yawned.

Nathaniel had been awake for a few hours already—he was also at the cafeteria with Devon—instead, it was his roommate who yawned.

Rexzavian was a crazy-looking young man with red hair with some white strands on it—his blazer was loosely buttoned and his tie was crooked.

Definitely rebellious spirit.

Devon didn’t care if he dressed like a slob. It wasn’t him who was going to get in trouble.

He then looked around the hallway and, at the end of the hallway, saw that there was a person missing.

’What now?’

Devon sighed and walked across the hallway—Kate watching him walk by, thought about saying, ’Good morning,’ but words just never left her mouth.

"Where is your roommate?"

Devon asked the young man at the back of the hallway, who looked troubled, and saw that there was an empty spot next to him.

"P-probably sleeping still."

He said.

"Go wake him up immediately."

Devon said urgently and saw that they had eight minutes left, and the young man quickly ran inside the room.

A moment later, his roommate stumbled out of the room, still putting the uniform on and trying to get his shoes on at the same time.

"Alright, let’s go!"

Devon said, and then everyone followed behind him—there was a lot of noise as they passed time by chatting with their friends.

Luckily, there wasn’t a long walk to the lecture hall, and with three minutes remaining, they finally arrived.

Devon stayed outside, watching everyone enter the lecture hall, and then entered as the last person and then closed the doors.

He took a seat at the back row, right next to Ned, and saw the time strike eight at the big clock on the wall.

BANG~!

In that moment, a door at the bottom of the lecture hall banged open, and their teacher—Hermann Overlord—walked in.

"Good morning."

Hermann said with his usual cold, somewhat smug tone.

"Good morning!"

The students greeted him back, their voices echoing through the room.

"You did a pretty good job as a Student Leader."

Ned whispered to Devon.

"It sucked to be the first Student Leader to do this. The first mornings are always quite iffy. Everyone is tired, just trying to get used to the environment.

"This will become much easier after a few weeks have passed."

Devon said.

"True, you did excellently after knowing that fact."

Ned said with a smile and then turned his attention back on the teacher as the first class was about to start.

Some students took out their notebooks and pens already.
