"You can now look around the Shopping Center. Don’t go anywhere else, and don’t try to steal anything!"

Janice said with a pout, and she looked like she was going to keep an eye on them—like a hawk.

The students spread around—most headed straight to the Innerworld Store—and so did Devon, out of curiosity.Full novel: INNERWORLD — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He entered the store, saw most students crowding around something, and went to look as well.

There was a special card on the round table.

"To connect to Innerworld, you need a Game Card, which allows you to use your account in any Virtual Helmer, but this isn’t a Game Card."

A student said.

"This is Item Card—it allows you to transfer an item to your character. I know some game stores that are selling these."

A girl said.

[Good Sword - 9 points]

"It’s just a Good Sword. Kind of trash. But since we’re all starting from scratch, we will have nothing but a wooden sword and a wooden shield.

"Maybe if getting 9 points is easy, it’s worth it."

A student said.

"Hey, look!"

In that moment, one of the students shouted from the corner of the store, and everyone came running over.

There was another card—It wasn’t Game Card or Item Card—it looked very different from the rest.

"It’s a Class Card!"

A student shouted excitedly.

This time around, everyone was excited about it, as any Class Card was valuable and highly sought after by all players.

’Every new player started with ’Noob Class’ which doesn’t have any abilities and is honestly kind of useless. It is impossible to become strong with Noob Class, so every player immediately starts to look for a better Class Card inside Innerworld.’

Devon thought.

[Jack-Of-All-Trades, Undefined Class - 500 points]

"Ah, it’s Undefined Class."

A student said with disappointment, and it also poured cold water on top of every excited student—it didn’t sound like Undefined Class was good.

’There are twelve class rankings, and Undefined stands at the bottom, because it is hard to define their strength, which usually means that the class is either unpredictable or simply too weak.’

Devon thought.

He looked at the cost of the class, and it was 500 points, which was insanely high, especially compared to the Good Sword.

"500 points! What a joke! Just an idiot would purchase this. It might be better than Noob Class, but it definitely isn’t worth getting kicked over!"

The students shook their heads and left elsewhere to check the rest of the Shopping Center—but Devon stayed behind.

"Did you know that every class in Innerworld is unique?"

In that moment, he heard a voice next to him, and when he turned his head to the side, saw Teacher Janice standing next to him.

"Miss Janice."

Devon bowed respectfully, but she just giggled, which sounded like heavenly bells to him.

"Very respectful, mmh, I like that. I’ve heard a great deal about you, Devon Levi."

"You have?"

Devon asked with a surprise.

It was honestly a great honor that she knew about him. He just remembered a few weeks ago when he saw her on the television.

At the World Tournament.

She was one of his mother’s favorite players, actually.

"Thomas has been talking my ears out about you. He is a big fan of yours, apparently. I’ve also heard about Crossheart."

Janice said with a smile.

"I honestly thought that everybody would’ve forgotten about me now. Lords of the Mythic Legends is nothing but in the past now.

"Soon enough, nobody will even remember it existed."

Devon said.

When the game closed, it felt like a part of his identity was lost forever—it was a game where he spent thousands and thousands of hours at.

"People have forgotten about how the game feels and looks, but there is something that hasn’t—Crossheart.

"You did something special there."

Janice said, and then she walked to the table with the Class Card in front of them—she saw Devon looking at it.

"Interested about this Class Card?"

"...Not sure yet."

Devon said.

"Did you know that Innerworld’s classes are split into four categories—Combat Classes, Production Classes, Support Classes and Unique Classes.

"The federation only cares about creating a powerful fighter. They do not want any of the students to go for Production or Support Classes.

"Which is shame, but understandable. I am Support Class myself, and I’ve always helped people fight.

"I can’t beat anybody in a fight, but I can certainly help others.

"This Jack-Of-All-Trades is an interesting class. It is actually a Unique Class because it doesn’t belong to any specific group.

"There are many Unique Classes that are powerful at combat, but they are also the most expensive, as you can see.

"500 points is a lot.

"However, nobody truly knows what Jack-Of-All-Trades is about. It sounds like you would be Jack-Of-All-Trades, and master of none.

"I am not quite sure what to make of it."

Janice said.

"Do you think I should go for this class?"

Devon asked.

"Giggle~ I won’t tell you what to do. I will give you guidance, yes, but I won’t make the decision for you.

"Maybe someone will snatch it from you."

Janice smiled, gave a quick tap on Devon’s shoulder, and then walked out of the store—Devon kept looking at the Class Card.

The time ticked—the class ended.

"You have two hours of Free Period, and after that, you have a lunch for an hour, and after that, Thomas will come pick you all up from your dormitory!"

Janice shouted.

Every student excitedly headed straight back to the dormitory—to either catch up on their sleep, play some games on laptops they brought with them, or just go for a walk outside.

’Fresh air would be good.’

Devon walked out of the front door, still dressed in the school uniform, and was welcomed with the chilling wind of the ocean.

He walked down the walkway—the ground he walked on was primarily made of pebbles—the trees rustled in the wind.

The sky was so gray that it wouldn’t be surprised if it rained any moment now—but Devon liked the ambiance of it all.

At that moment.

Devon saw another student sitting at one of the rock steps that lead to the island’s port—smoking a cigarette.

As if the person sensed his gaze, he turned around—it was the red-haired Rexzavian.

"Sup, Prez."

Rexzavian took a puff of his cigarette and blew the smoke towards Devon, smirking.

"Smoking isn’t allowed, from what I’ve read in the rulebook."

Devon said.

"Then snitch me to the teachers."

Rexzavian said with a smile.

"I don’t care if you smoke or not, but I thought you should know that there are points penalty with each rule you break."

Devon slipped his hands inside his pockets and walked away, and Rexzavian leaned back and kept smoking.

Like he didn’t care.
