Seeing Zheng Lin’s panicked expression, Wu Xingyu felt indifferent and wondered what could be so alarming. “I understand; I’ll go take a look.”

After hanging up the communication, Wu Xingyu pulled up two video clips to watch. The footage was clearer than during the live broadcast, and with just one glance, he recognized the young man in the video, especially when he saw the vines swirling in his hands and his agile movements. He exclaimed, “How is this possible?”

Wu Xingyu quickly searched online, and in an instant, he found countless articles about Luo Xingzhou awakening from an ordinary person to a powerful supernatural being. There were numerous comments from ordinary people expressing their envy. Which ordinary person wouldn’t dream of being able to stimulate superpowers or awaken as a beastman, thus escaping the status of being an ordinary person?Full novel: Interstellar Carnivorous Plant — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

In this world, the wages of beastmen or supernatural beings were different from those of ordinary people, even when doing the same work. Reality was simply unfair.

“This is ridiculous! It absolutely can’t be! He must be cheating. How could he awaken supernatural abilities at his age?” Especially since he had the same wood-based powers as Wu Xingyu, but while his were support-type, the other was attack-type and even stronger. Wu Xingyu couldn’t accept this fact.

“Mom, you have to see this video. That bastard has awakened supernatural abilities! What will we do if Dad finds out?”

Ren Fei now lived in the Wu family mansion. Although she hadn’t formally registered her relationship with Wu Zhenqiu, the servants in the mansion treated her as the lady of the house. Ren Fei felt incredibly smug; what did it matter if Luo Han came from a good background? Now that her support was gone, and her own child was not what she expected—unlike her, he hadn’t been born with supernatural abilities—she could almost laugh herself awake just thinking about it.

“Why the panic? Which bastard?”

“Mom, it’s Wu Xingzhou—no, it’s Luo Xingzhou, that bastard!” Wu Xingyu quickly opened the video for her to see.

Ren Fei’s pupils constricted in surprise, reacting similarly to Wu Xingyu. “This can’t be known to your father. Quickly, think of a way to get the video removed from StarNet. Let’s come up with a plan together.”

She knew all too well what kind of person Wu Zhenqiu was. He could be cold-blooded enough to let Luo Han take away his son simply because that child was useless and had no value. But once he found out that the boy had value, Wu Zhenqiu would do everything possible to bring him back and make use of him.

However, the mother and son were a step too late. The two video clips and the news about Luo Xingzhou awakening from an ordinary person to a supernatural being had already started to gain traction on StarNet.

When Zheng Lin sent the video to Wu Xingyu, one of Wu Zhenqiu’s competitors was also calling him. “Wu Laoxiong [1]This phrase literally means “old brother” and is used colloquially to refer to a male friend, typically one who is older or of the same generation. You’ve had two sons with wood-based abilities; I can’t compare to you. My son is still an ordinary person. I reached out to you to see if there’s any trick to it. I’ve been worried sick about my son; why can’t he be as promising as Luo Xingzhou?”

“What do you mean? Isn’t Xingzhou just an ordinary person like your Tang Xiaojun?”

“Lao [2] Old jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_3567760_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_3567760_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], }); Wu, it seems your information is outdated. You don’t even know that Xingzhou has awakened as a wood-based supernatural being. What kind of father are you? I need to see if I can get in touch with Luo Han; it would probably be much quicker to get the news from her than from you. Wu Laoxiong, see you later!”

After Tang Wei hung up the communication, he laughed heartily. The Wu family had terrible judgment to bring that illegitimate child back, mistaking a fake pearl for a real one. Now, looking at Xingzhou, his awakened wood-based ability was far more powerful than that illegitimate son of his.

“Dad, why did you call the Wu family? What if they try to pull something? And Luo Xingzhou is really impressive; he dares to take on a B-level star beast right after awakening his powers. He’s incredible!” Tang Xiaojun burst into the study, complaining.

Tang Xiaojun, like Luo Xingzhou, was an ordinary person. However, the biggest difference between them was that Tang Wei genuinely cared for and loved his son, while Luo Xingzhou’s biological father, Wu Zhenqiu, only valued him for the utility of the Pharmacist Luo. Once that support was gone, Wu Zhenqiu would immediately reveal his true colors, bringing back the illegitimate son born a few months after Luo Xingzhou. This meant that while Pharmacist Luo was still around, Wu Zhenqiu had already betrayed Luo Han behind her back.

When Wu Xingyu, the illegitimate son, appeared, Tang Xiaojun felt great sympathy for the ordinary Luo Xingzhou. If it were him, he wouldn’t be able to bear such a heavy blow. Unfortunately, after Luo Xingzhou left Zhongyang Star with his mother, he lost all contact. Now, learning about his situation from StarNet, Tang Xiaojun felt both envious and happy for him.

Tang Wei shot a glare at his son. “Do you think Wu Zhenqiu wouldn’t find out just because I don’t say anything? Besides, isn’t it interesting to provoke him a bit? Don’t worry, Luo Xingzhou is now a supernatural being. Wu Zhenqiu will have to assess the situation before he tries to suppress those two. I’m sure there are plenty of forces wanting to recruit Luo Xingzhou, including the military. And while Pharmacist Luo may be missing, not everyone is a backstabbing wolf like Duan Cheng; there will be people protecting him. Just wait and see.”

“Plus, I suspect that before Pharmacist Luo went missing, he might have left behind something valuable. Don’t you find it strange that Luo Xingzhou awakened his powers at this time?”

Tang Xiaojun’s heart raced. “Dad, are you saying that Luo Xingzhou awakened his powers because of some potion left by his grandfather?”

Tang Wei said, “Don’t get your hopes up too much. Even if you can’t become a supernatural being, being an ordinary person isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”

Tang Xiaojun acknowledged this point. “But everyone needs some hope and dreams, right?”

Tang Wei laughed and scolded, “Get lost.”

Wu Zhenqiu was unwilling to believe Tang Wei’s words. He knew full well what kind of situation Luo Han’s son was in—just an ordinary person. How could he possibly become a supernatural being?

But Tang Wei couldn’t just throw out baseless accusations, so he called his assistant and asked, “Is there any information about Xingzhou on StarNet?”

“I’ll check right away.”

The assistant turned around and began searching online. He couldn’t find anything about Wu Xingzhou, but he did find information on Luo Xingzhou. Upon seeing the comments, he almost hesitated to enter Wu Zhenqiu’s office. Even he, as the assistant, couldn’t in good conscience say that Wu Zhenqiu was a good husband or father. He never expected that the former young master would risk his life on a show for star coins. If he hadn’t awakened his powers by sheer luck, he would have lost his life by now.

However, for the sake of his job, the assistant only sent Wu Zhenqiu a few clips of the video, including the segment where Luo Xingzhou awakened his powers while on the brink of death and counterattacked a B-level star beast. Watching it made him sweat. In that situation, being able to awaken was not something one could feel jealous about; rather, it was admirable.

How many people could keep a cool head and turn the tables in such circumstances? He certainly couldn’t.

Wu Zhenqiu waved his hand, dismissing the assistant. He opened his personal personal terminal to watch the videos. Now he could finally confirm that Tang Wei hadn’t deceived him; Wu Xingzhou had indeed awakened his powers and become a wood-based supernatural being, and his abilities were quite powerful.

However, Wu Zhenqiu was very displeased. Why did Wu Xingzhou’s name change to Luo Xingzhou? Without thinking, he dialed a number, but it had been canceled.

Wu Zhenqiu’s face darkened. Luo Han actually cancels their previous contact number; is she trying to cut off all ties with him? Does that woman really think she can live well without him? Doesn’t she see that she has forced Wu Xingzhou to participate in such shows?

Wu Zhenqiu was filled with dissatisfaction and called the assistant back in. “Immediately find out which planet Luo Han and her son are on. Let me know as soon as you have results.”

“Understood, boss.”

After the assistant left, Wu Zhenqiu fell into deep thought. Why was Wu Xingzhou able to awaken his powers? He had been determined to be an ordinary person, a conclusion personally made by Luo Han’s father. Yet the fact before him was that he had indeed awakened. Is it possible that the old man had hidden something from him?

Damn it! Like Tang Wei, Wu Zhenqiu suspected that the Pharmacist Luo had developed a potion capable of stimulating people’s supernatural abilities and that this potion had been used on his grandson. If that were handed to him, how much wealth could it bring to the Wu family group?

That old man was indeed wary of him, Wu Zhenqiu thought conspiratorially.

He dialed another number, and it was soon connected.

“Duan Cheng, Wu Xingzhou has awakened his powers, and his level won’t be low. What’s going on?” Wu Zhenqiu asked directly.

Duan Cheng had been buried in the laboratory, making final preparations for the launch of a new potion. He was surprised when he heard this. “Impossible! How could he awaken his powers? Didn’t the teacher determine that long ago?”

“Watch this video.” Wu Zhenqiu presented the facts by sending the video over.

Duan Cheng watched the video closely, and when he saw the vines appearing at the moment of awakening and the B-level star beast collapsing, his eyes widened in disbelief. Like Wu Zhenqiu, he found it hard to believe. “How is this possible? Could it be…?”

Wu Zhenqiu said, “You’ve figured it out too, huh? I didn’t expect that old man would guard against me, but he’s also wary of you, his disciple. Perhaps only Luo Luan can gain his complete trust.”

Duan Cheng’s pupils contracted at this realization. Yes, he was envious of his senior brother. The teacher treated his eldest disciple like his own son, while he always felt there was a barrier between them. Thus, he easily fell for Wu Zhenqiu’s manipulation, showing no hesitation in siding with him. ‘Since you have been unkind to me, don’t blame me for being ungrateful.’

Now, realizing that the teacher might truly be guarding against him and hadn’t entrusted the most important potion to him, Duan Cheng’s gaze turned resentful. However, it quickly softened again as he looked at Wu Zhenqiu and said, “First, you need to confirm the existence of this potion.”

Wu Zhenqiu nodded. “Exactly. That’s why I sent someone to track down Luo Han and her son. Once we find them, whether or not the potion exists will become clear.”

Duan Cheng’s eyes gleamed with enthusiasm. “Good, I’ll also have people keep an eye on their whereabouts. It might be easier for me to find them. But let’s agree that if there is a potion, it must be me who researches it.”

“Not a problem, Duan Xiong [3]This term also means “brother,” but it is a more formal or traditional way to refer to an older male, often used in literary or respectful contexts. We have always worked well together.”

“Great, here’s to a pleasant cooperation.”

The two seemingly righteous individuals exchanged smiles from a distance.
