After the three grandparents and grandchildren finished their meal, they went to bed. Because Grandma Su was worried about Su Mingyue’s health, she stayed at Su Mingyue’s house that night as well, sleeping on the same kang bed as her.
The next morning.
Grandma Su opened her eyes, slowly sat up, and began getting dressed. Just then, Su Mingyue, who was sleeping beside her, suddenly jolted awake as though a nerve had been triggered.
Perhaps it was because of her former identity in the interstellar era, but she had always maintained an extremely high level of vigilance. For a long time, she had almost never truly fallen into a deep sleep.
Even when she was asleep, the slightest sound would immediately wake her, and she would instinctively prepare herself for battle.
At this moment, as soon as Grandma Su began shifting her body and putting on her clothes, Su Mingyue suddenly opened her eyes.
At first, Su Mingyue was still a little dazed. She thought she was still in the interstellar era. In the blink of an eye, however, her body instinctively sent her mental power shooting toward Grandma Su’s neck like a bolt of lightning.
Fortunately, at the critical moment, Su Mingyue realized where she was and what was happening. Her heart lurched, and she hurriedly forced herself to control the mental power that was about to strike its target, dispersing it into nothingness.
At the same time, she secretly felt fortunate that her mental power level had now fallen to Grade A. If she were still at the peak of her former 3S-level state, Grandma Su would probably have already suffered a serious injury by now.
After calming down somewhat, Su Mingyue quietly exhaled and warned herself inwardly, “This is no longer the interstellar world. This is a relatively safe and peaceful era. I need to relax. There’s no need to remain so tense and hypersensitive anymore.”
Once Grandma Su had finished getting dressed, she glanced at Su Mingyue. Seeing that Su Mingyue was still asleep, she breathed a sigh of relief.
She was getting old and didn’t need much sleep anymore, so she couldn’t lie in bed for long. She got up to do some housework, but she was also afraid that her movements might wake Su Mingyue. Fortunately, Su Mingyue was sleeping soundly, so Grandma Su quietly tiptoed out.
She then went to Su Qingfeng’s room to take a look. Seeing that his quilt was properly covering him, she was relieved again. After that, she went outside to get to work.
After Grandma Su left, Su Mingyue relaxed and went back to sleep for a little while longer.
She only got out of bed after waking up again. Once she was up, she slowly walked into the courtyard. When she didn’t see Grandma Su there, she extended her mental power toward the backyard to take a look. Sure enough, Grandma Su was in the backyard cleaning out the chicken coop!
Su Mingyue slowly walked into the courtyard and sat down on a stool, propping her chin up in both hands with a blank expression on her face.
She released her Grade-A mental power once again. After a while, she let out a long sigh. “Sigh!”
Her 3S-level mental power! How had it turned into nothing more than an earthworm?
The wound on her forehead still hurt a little, but fortunately, that degree of pain was completely negligible to Su Mingyue. Over the past two days, she had gone through all of the original owner’s memories. Combined with what she had once learned from history textbooks about the ancient era, she now knew for certain that she had indeed transmigrated into this particular, backward period.
She wasn’t afraid of being in a backward era. With her abilities, she could live well anywhere. The problem was that it was currently 1958, and according to the history she had studied, 1959 through 1961 would be three years of severe famine in China, with disasters occurring in many places.
People in this era didn’t have nutritional supplements like those in the interstellar world. They could only rely on grain to fill their stomachs and provide their bodies with nourishment. In other words, if there was no food, they would go hungry, and if they went without food for too long, they would die.
What was worrying was that, according to detailed historical records, starting in 1959, China would enter a period of severe disaster. The catastrophe would cause grain production to plummet, resulting in a difficult situation in which there were many people but very little food.
According to those long-sealed historical records, quite a number of people in China starved to death during those three long years. Later generations consequently gave that period the grim name of the “Three Years of Famine.”
But Su Mingyue wasn’t worried, because she had a space. Her space contained a large stockpile of nutritional supplements. Even if she included the young human cub, Su Qingfeng, these nutritional supplements would be enough to support the two of them through the coming three years.
Just as Su Mingyue thought this, the faces of Grandma Su and Su Heping, who had shown such concern for her, suddenly flashed through her mind.
Her thoughts paused for a moment. Forget it! She recalculated. Even if she included Grandma Su and Su Heping, the nutritional supplements she had stored would barely be enough.
Nutritional supplements were a necessity of daily life in the interstellar era. In the beginning, in order to maximize the amount of valuable time people could save, scientists in the interstellar world had conducted extensive research into the various nutrients required by the human body on a daily basis. They successfully extracted key substances from various plants and animals and used them to develop and manufacture nutritional supplements.
As time passed and technology continued to advance, the technology became increasingly sophisticated and mature. In the later stages, producing nutritional supplements no longer required extracting raw materials from plants and animals. Instead, scientists developed and carefully formulated combinations of various nutrients.
As for Su Laotou and Su Heping’s three children, Su Mingyue didn’t count them in. During the two days since she arrived, the only people she had met were Grandma Su and Su Heping, with perhaps Su Heping’s wife, Zhou Hehua, included, since Zhou Hehua had brought her meals several times.
Even if the nutritional supplements weren’t enough, she still had the treasures she had collected in her space. She could take out just two items and exchange them for a large amount of grain. And if all else failed, Xiaosu Village was backed by mountains, while her space contained all kinds of weapons she had collected.
Even though her mental power was now only Grade A, she wasn’t afraid of the mountains as long as she had her weapons. Hunting animals would be no problem at all. Even if she went after a wild boar, it would be effortless!
After all, the weapons of the interstellar era were all advanced weapons. Laser swords, silenced guns, laser guns, mass points (light particles), two-dimensional foils, and so on—her space had all kinds of weapons.
As Su Mingyue thought about this, she entered her space with her consciousness.
Huh? This is… her space?
No, it wasn’t!
Su Mingyue withdrew her consciousness, then entered the space again.
Where were the things in her space?
Where were the treasures she had collected?
Where were her weapons?
And, most importantly, where were her nutritional supplements?
They were all gone! Her space was completely empty!
Su Mingyue looked up at the sky and silently said, “F***! (A type of plant.)”
Su Mingyue thought carefully about it. When she had self-destructed and died together with the Insectoid Queen, everything in her space had still been perfectly intact. So how had everything disappeared now?
Su Mingyue couldn’t figure it out no matter how hard she tried!
