Immediately afterward, he continued through clenched teeth, “That damn Wang Daqiang is truly vicious and heartless! Mingyue, don’t worry. Your uncle will absolutely not let that lawless little bastard off easily!” He clenched his fists tightly, his eyes flashing with anger and determination.

Su Mingyue’s delicate brows drew together in worry as she looked at her uncle, Su Heping, and asked softly, “Uncle, what are you planning to do? We can’t act rashly over this matter.”

Su Heping suddenly slammed his hand on the table, his eyes wide with fury. “What else can we do? Of course we’ll go straight to Wang Daqiang’s house and confront him face-to-face! Our Su family isn’t someone people can bully. We absolutely cannot let you suffer this injury for nothing.”Full novel: Interstellar Female General in the 1960s — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Su Mingyue bit her lip and shook her head. “Uncle, at the time, there were only Wang Daqiang and me on the mountain. There were no other witnesses. Besides, no one knows whether anyone saw Wang Daqiang when he came down the mountain. If nobody saw him, then we have absolutely no evidence proving that he did it.”

Su Heping folded his arms across his chest and let out a cold laugh. “So what if there’s no evidence? I’m the brigade leader of this village, after all. Do you really think I’m afraid I can’t deal with a little Wang Daqiang? I have plenty of ways to make him admit what he did. Just put your mind at ease. Don’t worry too much about this. Even if he refuses to admit it, I have other ways to make him pay for what he did to you.”

Hearing Su Heping say this, Su Mingyue finally relaxed. What she had been afraid of was that Su Heping would be the kind of person who insisted on evidence. In this matter, she could not be certain whether they would actually be able to obtain any evidence.

Just then, Old Madam Su slowly entered the room carrying a bowl.

The moment she saw the fury on Su Heping’s face, she hurriedly asked, “Oh my, Heping, what’s wrong? Why do you look so angry? What happened?” As she spoke, she shuffled over to the table and carefully handed the bowl full of food to Su Mingyue, who was sitting nearby.

Su Mingyue obediently reached out with both hands to take the bowl. Then she lowered her head and quietly began eating.

At this moment, Su Heping took a deep breath and suppressed his anger before explaining to his mother, “Ma, Mingyue’s fall this time wasn’t an accident! Someone deliberately pushed her from behind, which caused her to fall into a hollow in the mountains. She hit her head on a rock and that’s how she got injured!”

Upon hearing this, the old lady’s originally kind and gentle expression instantly turned livid, and her entire body trembled with rage.

She could not help cursing furiously. “Oh, heavens! What heartless, inhuman person could have done such a wicked thing? They’re utterly devoid of conscience, rotten to the core! She’s just a child—who could she possibly have such a deep grudge against? How could anyone be cruel enough to do something so vicious to her!

“Heping, hurry up and tell me who that damned bastard was! We absolutely cannot let him off! I’m going to his house right now to demand an explanation. I’ll question him properly and ask him how he dared to be so vicious as to hurt even a child!”

Seeing how agitated his elderly mother had become, Su Heping grew worried, afraid that she might become too enraged and suffer some kind of serious consequence.

He immediately stepped forward, firmly took hold of her arm, and gently reassured her, “Ma, please calm down first. Don’t get yourself worked up! Just leave this matter to your son. I’ll definitely get justice for Mingyue. I won’t let anyone bully her without consequences! Please, put your mind at ease!”

Before Su Heping could finish speaking, Old Madam Su interrupted him. “Don’t give me any of that useless talk. I’m asking you who it was! Who hurt Mingyue and left her in such a state?”

There was nothing Su Heping could do with his mother, so he could only tell her the truth. “It was Wang Daqiang.” He then recounted everything Su Mingyue had just told him to his mother.

Old Madam Su was filled with fury, and she continued cursing. “That little bastard is rotten to the core! This is outrageous, absolutely outrageous! That cursed little bastard—born to a mother but never taught by one!” As she cursed, she hurried outside at a surprisingly quick pace.

Su Heping, who had been keeping a close eye on his mother, immediately understood what was happening. His old mother was obviously storming straight to Wang Daqiang’s house to demand an explanation.

How could he possibly feel comfortable letting her go there alone? Su Heping immediately decided to follow her to Wang Daqiang’s house and demand justice as well.

He called out to Su Mingyue, who was sitting on the kang and eating with her head lowered. “Mingyue, your grandmother and I are going to Wang Daqiang’s house to settle this matter with him! After you finish eating, lie down on the kang and rest for a while longer!”

Hearing this, Su Mingyue raised her head and, after swallowing the food in her mouth, replied, “I know, Uncle! Please keep an eye on Grandma, okay? Don’t let Wang Daqiang’s old grandmother bully her!”

Su Heping nodded. “I know. Don’t worry, child! Oh, right, Qingfeng, hurry over to the old family home and gather everyone. Tell them to come with us to Wang Daqiang’s house and demand an explanation!”

Su Qingfeng, who was standing nearby, immediately answered loudly, “Got it, Uncle!”

Before the words had even left his mouth, he took off like a wild horse, sprinting toward the old family home. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared beyond the courtyard.

In fact, during this period, Su Heping had heard some of the gossip circulating around the village about their family. Fortunately, those who were spreading rumors still had some sense and had not said those things in front of the two children.

Even so, Su Heping found it difficult to let the matter go. After all, he couldn’t exactly cover everyone’s mouths and stop them from talking, could he?

But this was a good opportunity. He could use the incident with Wang Daqiang to establish some authority and teach those villagers who loved spreading rumors a lesson, so that they would think twice before passing around such ugly gossip in front of the children in the future.

After all, these two poor children had only just suffered the devastating blow of losing both their parents. They truly could not endure any more hurt or pain.

When Su Heping and Old Madam Su arrived at Wang Daqiang’s house, only Wang Daqiang and his grandmother, Old Madam Wang, were in the courtyard, twisting hemp rope.

The moment Old Madam Su caught sight of Wang Daqiang, she became absolutely furious. She charged into the courtyard, moving as though the wind itself were at her feet.

She strode straight toward Wang Daqiang, raising her hand and striking him as she cursed, “So it was you, you little bastard! You actually hurt my Mingyue so badly! And you still have the nerve to sit here so comfortably? You truly are a heartless, conscienceless piece of trash!”
