After entering the academy gate, Ke Yunyao immediately took out her hover board, stepped on it, stabilized her stance, and flew toward the dormitory direction indicated by the signposts.

Along the way, she encountered many students like herself. However, the hover boards beneath everyone’s feet varied. Most were personal devices like hers, while some used the academy’s public hover boards.

Hover boards were not particularly expensive—about 20,000 credits—but some students’ families still could not afford them.Full novel: Interstellar: The Mech Designer Is a Bit [Socially Anxious] — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

And that was only the basic version. There were more luxurious models with higher prices depending on features and preferences.

Ke Yunyao’s hover board was a gift from her mother, Yun Lan. As a high-level medic/pharmacologist, Yun Lan was never short of credits, so she naturally bought a luxury multifunctional model equipped with navigation, obstacle avoidance, and other systems.

Because of this, Ke Yunyao never had to worry about situations like accidentally colliding with someone mid-air, unlike the cliché scenes often seen in StarNet dramas. That kind of thing simply could not happen with properly equipped hover boards.

Sometimes, when she watched StarNet dramas out of curiosity, she found them rather unrealistic.

Which wealthy young noble would not have a fully functional luxury hover board? Who would use one without even obstacle avoidance?

How could such people possibly crash into a female lead by accident?

She genuinely could not understand how screenwriters came up with such illogical plots.

Probably because they themselves could not imagine how a “ordinary background but beautiful and talented female lead” would ever naturally meet a “handsome, wealthy, powerful male lead.”

Without forced encounters, there would be no story.

And without story, there would be no drama.

The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became.

Lost in these thoughts, the self-navigating hover board brought her to the dormitory building.

She put the board away and walked upstairs.

The dorm buildings were not very tall—each building had only 12 floors. Each floor contained one large unit with four small rooms and a shared living room. The living room was a communal area, and the four residents of the small rooms were considered roommates.

The four rooms were located at the four corners. Each room was actually quite spacious, containing an integrated bathroom and bedroom, a workroom, a training room, a kitchen, and a small private living area.

Her parents had already explained all of this to her beforehand.

Ke Yunyao went up to the 3rd floor. Her assigned room was Dorm Building 6, Room 303.

She peeked inside the shared living room and saw two people sitting on the sofa.

A bit awkward—how should she naturally greet them?

Before she could think further, the two inside had already turned to look at her.

A round-faced girl smiled brightly. “Hi! Are you the new student? Which department are you from?”

So enthusiastic.

Ke Yunyao could feel the other party’s goodwill, and her intention to appear cold immediately collapsed.

She curved her lips slightly and forced a polite smile. “Hello. I’m a new student from the Mecha Department. My name is Ke Yunyao. I’ve been assigned to Room 303 on this floor.”

The round-faced girl nudged the wavy-haired girl beside her and whispered excitedly, “See? I told you, Sister Hui wouldn’t trick us!”

Without waiting for a response, she immediately stood up and ran over to pull Ke Yunyao down to sit.

“Welcome! Welcome to the dorm!”

Ke Yunyao stiffened as she was pulled into a seat, smiling awkwardly.

The wavy-haired girl brushed her hair back. “Don’t scare the junior.”

The round-faced girl looked at Ke Yunyao. “Sorry, sorry. Don’t be nervous—we’re all easy to get along with here. Let me introduce everything.”

“Okay, thank you, senior.”

“Aww, you’re so polite!” The round-faced girl immediately brightened.

The wavy-haired girl rescued the situation. “Alright, stop teasing her.”

The round-faced girl quickly backed off. “Fine, fine.”

“Cough. Let me introduce myself first. Do you know about the academy’s dorm assignment system?”

Ke Yunyao nodded. She had been briefed by her parents.

Dorms were randomly assigned, usually mixing freshmen with seniors, and even mixing different departments within the same unit.

“Then I won’t explain that. I’ll introduce the other three people on this floor.”

“Okay,” Ke Yunyao nodded obediently.

The round-faced girl patted her chest. “Formal introduction—my name is Yan Wenling. Fourth-year Combat Department.”

A trace of surprise flashed in Ke Yunyao’s eyes. This round-faced girl was actually in the Combat Department? She didn’t look like it physically.

Yan Wenling waved her off. “Put away that doubtful look. Trust me—I’m in the top three of my year.”

“Sorry,” Ke Yunyao immediately apologized.

“No problem. Everyone reacts like that before seeing me fight. You’ll get used to it later.”

“Okay.”

Yan Wenling paused briefly, slightly choked by how serious she was.

“Cough… next is this one. Somaya·Peiyun, fourth-year Command Department. Just call her Senior Somaya.”

Somaya glanced at Yan Wenling. “Why are you Sister Ling, and I’m just Senior Somaya?”

This new junior looked clean and soft-spoken, a bit shy and not very social—but likely a good person.

And from the Mecha Department too. That meant she was probably personally selected by Lin Hui.

Anyone approved by Lin Hui should be fine.

So why the different treatment?

Yan Wenling looked shocked. “Uh… Somaya, where’s your cold aura?”

Ke Yunyao also looked at Somaya. Cold aura? Where?

From the moment she walked in, she hadn’t sensed anything “cold” at all.

Somaya rolled her eyes. “Don’t ruin my reputation in front of the little cutie, alright?”

Ke Yunyao froze.

Little cutie?

Who?

She slowly turned her head.

Somaya looked back at her.

Yes. She meant you.

Ke Yunyao gave an awkward smile.

Yan Wenling laughed. “Haha! You also think the junior is cute, right?”

Somaya glanced at her as if saying “obviously.”

Ke Yunyao already felt like she wanted to dig a hole in the floor and disappear.
