The Grayson family sat down at the dining table with Kevin.
‘ This smells really good.’ Kevin said to himself.
While it was only meatloaf that Debby made in the end, Kevin had to admit that the food was more than appetising.
He took his utensils and had a taste.
‘ Urrrrgh..
That’s so good.’ Kevin felt as if he took a bite out of heaven.
While he had been ordering food out to cope for awhile now, to him there was nothing better than a home cooked meal.
Everyone around the table dug in, enjoying themselves.
For once the family looked normal and peaceful.
” So Kevin, how did you and Mia meet.” Debby decided to be the one to start up a conversation.
” Mmgh?” Kevin blinked his eyes, his mouth completely stuffed.
GULP~
He swallowed the food in his mouth in order to talk properly.
” You mean how we came to be friends.” He said.
CLANG~
” Mom why ask him something like that.” Mia dropped her utensil and asked with an uncomfortable expression.
” Did something happen?” Debby raised a brow, curious.
” Nothing serious really, Our first meeting wasn’t exactly sweet since she almost beat the crap out of me.”
” W-What?” Debby paused, turning towards her daughter.
” Mia!”
” He’s just exaggerating mom, it wasn’t that bad.”
” She’s right Mr’s Grayson, I was just joking.” Kevin spoke up, afraid things might spiral.
” Mia’s actually a really nice girl once you get to know her.”
” You and Mia go to the same school?” Nolan asked.
” Not quite, I don’t actually go to school on account of having already finished.
Although I am considering college as an option if I get bored hehehe.”
” You look so young we could barely tell.” Debby said.
” It’s alright, just one of the perks of my family genes I guess.” Kevin said, shaking his head softly.
” And your parents, I hope they’re doing well.” Nolan asked.
Silence.
” Is something wrong?” Nolan noticed Kevin suddenly acting strange.
” His parents are dead dad.” Mia gave him a look you’d give someone who just had to do something stupid.
” What?” Nolan paused.
” I honestly didn’t know.” Nolan turned to Kevin and said.
” It’s alright Mr.
Grayson, you didn’t know to begin with.”
” Then are you staying with a relative?” Debby asked, sounding concerned.
” Not really, I kinda live on my own.”
” That must be rough on you.” Debby said.
” You know you could just come over whenever you want, it’s not like you have to worry about traveling.” Mia twirled her fork before pointing it at him.
” Weren’t you the one who didn’t want me coming over earlier.”
” That was before my dad showed up.” Mia sighed.
” Excuse me?” Nolan raised a brow.
” Sorry Dad, but you do kinda suck.” Mia said to Nolan with a flat look on her face.
” What are you guys talking about?
Kevin, do you live near by?” Debby said.
” More than that, he literally lives right next door.” Mia said as she took a bite of her meat loaf.
” What?” Debby paused, surprised, unlike her husband who was calm about the news.
” I don’t recall us ever having neighbours.”
” That’s because he bought the place just recently.” Mia said.
” What?” This time it was both Nolan and Debby who were surprised.
” Did I forget to mention he’s rich too?” Mia blurted out without a care in the world.
” But you’re so young?” Debby said, staring at Kevin with disbelief.
” Might I ask were you went to highschool, Kevin?” Nolan suddenly spoke up.
” Umm…”
‘ Uhh what should I say, I honestly don’t remember any schools here besides Mia’s.’
‘ If I tell him that, he might get suspicious.’
” You know what, I honestly can’t remember hehehe.” Kevin replied, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
” It’s been so long, I barely recall the place.”
” But you’re 20?
Lol, you literally forgot your own highschool in 2 years?” Mia couldn’t help laughing.
” I-I guess.” Kevin said.
“I kinda moved around a lot after my parents passed, so I only finished my last year in Chicago.”
SKRRRRT~
” Dad, what are you doing?” Mia furrowed her brows when her father suddenly got up from his seat, looking towards Kevin with a stern expression.
” Who are you and what plans do you have for my family.” Nolan gave him a deadpan look.
” WHAT?!” Kevin turned completely shocked.
” Sweetie, calm down.
I don’t think he’s what you think he is.” Debby said but her husband completely ignored her and began approaching Kevin.
” Mr Grayson, please tell me this is one of your jokes again.” Kevin said, sounding nervous.
But Nolan didn’t stop approaching him.
‘ Damnit, he’s not listening.’ Kevin bit his lower lip in frustration before grabbing his watch.
WHOOSH~
Nolan used his viltrumite speed and reached him in an instant, grabbing the Omnitrix.
” What is this.” Nolan said with furrowed brows.
” Is this what you plan on using to hurt my family.”
BEEP~ BEEP~
After Nolan grabbed the watch, Kevin was too preoccupied to see it’s interface turning yellow for a short moment before reverting back to normal.
” Why should I, you honestly believe his story?” Nolan turned towards Debby with an agitated expression.
” Dad!
Let him go!” Mia on the other hand looked just as worked up as her father.
” What is wrong with you!
You can’t just go about grabbing my friend like that!”
” Sweetie please stay out of this.” Nolan said before shifting his gaze back to Kevin.
” It’s obvious he’s trying to use you to get to me, probably why he created that whole stupid story in the first place, I mean an orphan rich kid just decided to give you a ride to school.
What are the chances of that just happening.”
” Plus, don’t you think it’s strange that he can’t even remember his own high school?”
” I can understand how you feel right now Mr Grayson, but I really don’t think what you’re doing right now is a good idea.”
” Are you threatening me, boy?” Nolan’s gaze turned hard.
” Wait…” Mia froze.
” How did you know he gave me a ride.” Mia said.
” We’re you watching us the whole time dad?!” She yelled at him, furious.
” Sweetie that’s not important right now–”
” Of course it isn’t!
It never is with you, only whatever you say goes right?”
” Just because you’re a little paranoid, you plan on killing my friend?!”
” No, I plan on taking him to the GDA and having them interrogate him, to see who he’s working for.” Nolan said.
” He’s not working for anyone Dad!
Let him go!” Mia yelled, unconsciously clenching her fists.
” Nolan, please listen to her, I’m sure this is all a misunderstanding.”
” Listen to me.” Nolan ignored the both of them, staring intently at Kevin.
” By the time I’m done with you, you’ll be begging me to kill you.” He said as he began floating into the air.
Mia’s heart skipped a beat seeing this.
” Damnit Dad!” She flew through the air at him like a bullet.
” I said!” Reaching him, she gave him an unexpected right hook.
BAM!
Nolan, shaken by her actions, unconsciously let go of Kevin.
” Let him Go!” Mia delivered a savage uppercut at the end of her sentence, sending her father shooting upwards, smashing through the floor above as well as the roof, before shooting into the sky.
“….” Debby was utterly speechless.
” Ha..Ha..Ha..Ha..” she floated there in the air, trying to catch her breath from actually hitting her father, while her emotions gradually returned to normal.
” Umm….thanks I guess?” Kevin stared at the hole in the ceiling with little dropping debris, then back at Mia, still a bit shaken that she did something like that.
Of course he knew the only reason she managed to send him flying was because he didn’t know she had actually awakened her powers.
If not, he knew things would’ve ended up differently for them.
Seeing Debby and Mia staring at each other as if they both wanted to speak yet weren’t sure how to.
” Umm…
I’ll go call someone to patch that right up.” Sensing the awkwardness, Kevin decided to take a step outside and give them some room.
As he left the dining room, he took in a breath of relief.
While he knew the Omnitrix would’ve intervened if his life were ever truly in peril, it still didn’t mean he wasn’t shaken up by what just happened.
