The lower holding vaults of Layer Two were dead silent save for the rhythmic, rhythmic click-clack of brass tools laid out on a stone tray.

Former Commander Vaelen Vane was strapped tightly to a biological restraint frame.

The heavy plate armor that had defined his authority was gone, stripped down to an ash-grey tunic.Full novel: Isekai Overseer: Reign of the Behemoth — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Above him hung a suspended cluster of pulsating, sapphire-blue neural filaments connected directly to the Nerve-Scribe array.

Valen stood at the edge of the frame, turning a slender, nerve-grafting stylus between his fingers.

Beside him stood Lyra, her amber eyes glowing with a faint, steady sapphire light as she monitored Vaelen’s erratic heart rate and brainwave activity through the tower’s telemetry feed.

“I’ll ask you once more, Vaelen,” Valen said, his voice as smooth and emotionless as polished stone.

“What is the exact layout of Lord Vane’s primary foundry in the Iron-Reach?

Where are his fuel reserves stored?”

Vaelen gritted his teeth, sweat pouring down his pale face, soaking through his collar.

“Go to hell, boy…

I am a nobleman of the Iron-Reach…

I won’t betray my blood to a disgraced exile…”

Valen didn’t raise his voice.

He simply glanced at Lyra.

“Target the cervical nerve cluster.”

Lyra’s fingers brushed the sinew controls on her hip harness.

“Initiating pulse.”

A gentle shockwave of blue light surged through the suspended filaments directly into the base of Vaelen’s skull.

He didn’t scream—his jaw locked tight as every nerve ending from his shoulders to his fingertips burned with the sensation of liquid fire.

“The…

the southern vault!” Vaelen gasped out, his eyes bulging as the pulse ebbed away, leaving him weeping and panting against the restraints.

“The southern vault under the main forge!

Three thousand barrels of refined marrow-oil…

stored behind four-inch iron doors!

Gods mercy, stop it!”

“Mercy is a resource, Vaelen,” Valen said softly, stepping closer and placing his hand gently on the back of Vaelen’s neck.

“And I don’t waste resources.”

[Executing Unit Conversion: Neural-Control Collar Attachment]

With a soft hiss, a ring of calcified bone-plate and glowing neural thread materialized around Vaelen’s throat, fusing directly into his spine.

“Stand,” Valen commanded.

Vaelen’s eyes went dull for a moment before returning to focus, devoid of any past defiance.

He unstrapped himself smoothly from the frame, dropping to his knees and bowing his head until his forehead touched Valen’s boots.

“My life is yours, Lord Overseer,” Vaelen said, his voice completely level.

“The two hundred and thirty-six captives are processed and waiting in the lower courtyard for labor assignment.”

“Get them to the foundries,” Valen ordered.

“Karen needs manpower to refit those captured siege engines.”

By mid-afternoon, the main courtyard of The Bone-Grave sounded like a war-forge.

Karen was perched on top of the lead Marrow-Drill Siege Engine, her face smudged with soot and oil.

With the help of forty penal workers, she had completely gutted the machine’s flawed steam-drive.

In its place, thick gut-hoses fed glowing blue ichor directly from the central pipeline into the rotary drill motor.

– Dual High-Pressure Bio-Artillery Cannons Installed

“She’s a beauty now, My Lord!” Karen shouted down, wiping her arm across her brow as she slapped the side of the massive, bone-reinforced iron beast.

“No clogging, no overheating.

This drill could eat through a mountain in an hour!”

Before Valen could respond, the horn atop the Nerve-Scribe Tower sounded a single, low tone.

High above on the ramparts, Lyra stood beside the central interface array.

She looked down at Valen, her mental link sending a sharp, clear image directly into his mind.

A small delegation of six riders on armored warhorses was approaching the outer gate under a white flag of truce.

At the head of the group rode a man clad in velvet and silver-plated mail—a formal herald bearing the crest of House Vane.

Valen walked up to the ramparts, flanked by Marcus and the five bio-engineered Bone-Shatter Vanguard operatives.

The herald pulled his horse to a stop fifty yards outside the bone-arch gate, adjusting a long parchment scroll in his gloved hands.

“I speak for Lord Hector Vane, High Sovereign of the Iron-Reach!” the herald’s voice bellowed, arrogant and resounding off the valley walls.

“You, Valen Drake, stand accused of murder, illegal fortification, and destruction of House Vane’s military assets!”

Valen leaned against the stone parapet, his eyes cold and unimpressed.

“State your business, herald.”

The herald sneered, unrolling the scroll.

He demands immediate and unconditional surrender of The Bone-Grave, the total forfeiture of all marrow-mining rights, and the immediate execution of the rebels responsible for Commander Vaelen’s demise.

You have twenty-four hours to open these gates and kneel in chains.

Fail, and three thousand heavy infantry with ten siege regiments will burn this ditch to ash!”

A heavy silence settled over the pass.

Valen turned slightly, looking at Lyra.

She met his gaze, her expression calm, her trust in him absolute.

“Lyra,” Valen said quietly.

“Target the herald’s escort with the new Siege Leviathan.”

Lyra’s sapphire eyes flared.

Through the Nerve-Scribe link, she transmitted the exact targeting telemetry directly down into the newly refitted engine stationed behind the gate portcullis.

“Targeting complete,” she whispered.

“Fire,” Valen said.

The heavy steel portcullis groaned open three feet.

The massive, blue-glowing snout of the Bio-Mechanical Siege Leviathan poked through the gap.

BOOM!

A blinding beam of concentrated, pressurized blue bio-energy ripped through the air.

In less than a second, the five armored escorts behind the herald were completely disintegrated, reduced to scorching ozone and white ash on the dirt road.

Their warhorses vanished into dust.

The herald dropped his scroll, his face draining of all color as his horse screamed and bucked in absolute terror, throwing him hard onto his back in the dirt.

Valen walked slowly out through the gate, his boots crunching on the gravel until he stood over the trembling messenger.

He reached down, grabbed the herald by his velvet collar, and yanked him up so their eyes met.

“Go back to Lord Vane,” Valen said, his purple-glowing eyes burning into the man’s soul.

“Tell him his vanguard was slaughtered, his siege engines now belong to me, and his commander is currently digging my mines.”

Valen leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper.

“Tell him he has three days to march his three thousand men to this pass and surrender his fiefdom to me.

If he hesitates…

I won’t just hold this gate.

I will bring the Titan to his doorstep and erase House Vane from the map.”

Valen shoved the terrified herald onto his horse.

The messenger didn’t say a word—he spurred his mount into a frantic gallop, fleeing down the pass as fast as the beast could run.

Valen turned back to his city, looking up at the glowing blue Nerve-Scribe Tower and his loyal army standing at attention.
