JAY’s POV
I stood behind the heavy doors, my fingers tight around Dad’s arm arm while the other hand clutched a bouquet of flowers.
My breath shallow and my heart hammering.
The tears had dried, replaced by a hollow numbness that left my limbs heavy and my mind spinning.
The red light buzzed softly, indicating it was time to enter.
I lifted my chin, forced my lips into what I hoped was a convincing smile, and waited for the doors to open.
The moment they did, the world narrowed to a tunnel of white petals and soft music.
I saw only the aisle, the guests blurry faces on either side, and at the very end, a man in a charcoal suit that hugged his shoulders like a second skin.
Keifer stood tall and still, hands clasped in front of him, his dark eyes locked on me with an intensity that burned even from this distance.
He looked… beautiful.
Dangerous.
Like a man who knew exactly what he wanted and refused to wait another second to take it.
Dad squeezed my hand once, his voice low in my ear.
“You’re my little girl. I love you. I’m so proud of you.” His voice cracked just enough to show the emotion he was trying to hide.
“Take a deep breath, anak. One step at a time. I’ll be right there, okay?”
I nodded, unable to speak past the lump in my throat.
Dad turned to face the same direction I was, and we began to walk.
Every step felt like I was marching toward a cliff.
The guest’s faces blurred, the music swelled, and Keifer grew closer, more imposing every second.
When we reached the altar, Dad paused, his voice thick but steady as he placed my hand in Keifer’s.
“Take care of my daughter,” Dad said, his eyes locked on Keifer’s.
“I am counting on you, Keifer. Don’t let me down.”
Keifer’s fingers closed around mine, warm and sure.
“I will,” he said, and for the first time that day, his voice was soft.
“You know me, Tito. I won’t disappoint you. I promise her happiness with mine.”
Dad finally smiled through the heavy emotions.
His expression softened as he looked at me, patting my cheeks before walking down the aisle.
We turned to face each other as the priest began to speak, his words a blur of love and destiny.
I listened but did not hear; my mind was entirely occupied with all that had happened back in the bridal suite.
“Focus, Jay,” Keifer’s voice cut through the heavy fog in my mind.
His thumb stroked my knuckles, a silent comfort amid the chaos.
I looked into his calm, assuring eyes, which did something to ease my mind.
“Now, I invite you to exchange your vows,” the priest said.
“Jay,” Keifer started, holding my gaze, his voice a low, steady rumble that made my breath catch.
“We have known each other since childhood, we have been fighting since forever, and I know you still hate me for stealing your pancakes right from your plate.”
Laughter filled the room, and even I couldn’t suppress a snort.
“But,” his voice grew heavier with newfound determination, “I promise to cherish you, to protect you, and to be there with you my whole life so that you don’t have to regret marrying me.”
I thought he was repeating from a script he was given, but the sincerity in his eyes and the truth in his voice told me a different story.
It didn’t sound practiced; it sounded heartfelt.
The usual arrogant, cocky bastard was nowhere to be found.
In his place was a soft but determined Keifer I had never known until now.
It made me forget my own script Percy had given me earlier.
I took a deep breath, slightly stumbling over my words.
“I have always seen you as my enemy, a tall, smirking bastard who doesn’t know the meaning of boundaries. I always fought you because you couldn’t help but annoy me.”
Another round of laughter erupted.
Even Keifer couldn’t help but chuckle in that deep voice, which made my heart skip a beat.
“Are they marrying each other or declaring war?” someone quipped from the crowd, earning a few more snorts.
“But,” I continued, my voice steady, which surprised me, “I promise to be with you through every up and down waiting ahead of us.”
A round of applause filled the room.
“Do you, Mark Keifer Watson, take Jasper Jean Mariano as your wife?” the priest asked Keifer.
Keifer looked at me, and without hesitation, he declared, “I DO!”
“Do you, Jasper Jean Mariano, take Mark Keifer Watson as your husband?” the priest asked me.
“I DO!” I managed to say, despite the lump in my throat.
“The ring is a symbol of your unending love. Please exchange your rings,” the priest instructed.
Two small children came forward with a ring basket.
Keifer picked up the ring and slipped the band onto my finger, his touch gentle, his eyes searching.
I did the same, my hands shaking slightly.
The priest smiled, his voice warm.
“By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.”
I froze; I wasn’t prepared for this.
Keifer must have noticed.
He pulled my hands toward his lips and pressed a soft kiss to my ring, then to my forehead, his lips lingering for a heartbeat.
“I won’t do anything you’re not comfortable with, so relax,” he murmured, his voice low, his words meant for me alone.
I was so surprised by his gentleness that I forgot to breathe.
The guests cheered, the girls and Section E boys hooting and whistling their approval, but I barely heard them.
All I could feel was the warmth of his lips, the promise in his words, and the way my heart stuttered in my chest.
And then it was done.
We were married.
I was Mrs. Watson.
Keifer’s wife.
At the reception, most of the guests huddled around the food corner, while the adults mingled, leaving us with Section E and my two idiot brothers cornering Keifer and me surrounded by girls who were showering me with the warmth I had been seeking.
“I swear, if he so much as breathes the same air as you, baby,” Freya hissed, “that would be the last time he sees the sun.”
“Count me in,” Ella added, her face showing pure fury.
“I’ll just chop off the hand he proposed with.”
“Seriously though,” Honey said, frowning.
“Wasn’t he the one asking to date you? Why did he just… go missing?”
“C’mon, girls,” Rakki interjected, looking at me.
“Let’s just forget about that jerk. Jay is starting a new life. I’m proud of you.”
She gave me a side hug, and soon enough, everyone joined in.
“Thank you, girls,” I said, my voice cracking.
Eventually, the guests began to leave, handing us gifts and muttering congratulations.
We walked to the driveway, waiting for our car.
Mom approached us—tears still glistening in her eyes—cupping both mine and Keifer’s faces with warmth.
“I know this wedding wasn’t your choice, but my blessings are always with both of you. Always stay happy.”
I immediately hugged Mom, silently crying.
We pulled apart just in time for Dad to pull me into another hug, kissing my forehead.
“My princess is so strong; you deserve every happiness in this world.”
He pulled away and looked at Keifer.
“Always be with her, anak.”
“Of course, Tito,” Keifer assured.
Dad raised a single brow.
“Still Tito, I am your dad now.” He pulled Mom toward him.
Keifer chuckled before nodding.
“Very clear, Dad.”
Then came Tita Serina and Tito Keizer.
“Welcome to the family, Jay,” Tita hugged me.
“Officially, you are my daughter now.”
“Thanks, Tita,” I managed to give a small smile.
“She’s your mom,” Tito Keizer said, “and I am your dad, little girlfriend.”
Everyone laughed despite the heaviness of that name.
“And Keifer,” he turned his attention to Keifer, handing him a key.
“Don’t come to Watson Mansion; keep the keys to our penthouse. Stay there. I’ve asked the cleaners to tidy up.”
“Dad, was that necessary?” Keifer protested, even though Dad shoved the keys into his hand.
“We’d better stay with you guys.”
“Shut up, Keifer,” Mom Serina glared at him before looking at me, her gaze softening.
“It’s a small wedding gift for both of you. Everything happened so fast; I couldn’t prepare a proper gift for you. So for now, this is it.”
“Thanks, Mom,” I said with a smile.
After our parents left, leaving us with my brothers.
“Watson,” Kuya Angelo said, a threat lacing his tone, “she shouldn’t shed a single tear, or I will dig your grave.”
“Okay, boss,” Keifer said, muttering about more threats than greetings.
“I heard that!” Kuya Angelo shot back.
“What!” Keifer acted all innocent.
“I didn’t say anything.”
After my brothers left, shooting warning looks towards Keifer, he turned to me.
“So…” he said, looking at me.
“Should we leave?”
I looked at him and nodded.
