KEIFER’s POV
We spent the next hour hunched over the table, mapping out our next moves.
After few moments later
Percy exhaled, running a hand through his hair.
“Fine. But if we’re doing this, we’re doing it right.” He pointed at me.
“You’ve got the tech. I’ve got the connections. Aries—”
“I’ve got the rage,” Aries snarled.
Percy grinned, some of his usual charm returning.
“Perfect. Then we’re all set.”
Aries wasn’t amused.
He glared at the files like they were personally offending him.
“This doesn’t explain why he’s so fixated on Jay. She’s not some random target. He’s obsessed.”
I leaned back, my mind racing.
“That’s what we need to find out.”
Percy tilted his head.
“You think it’s about the Marianos? Our money? Influence?”
I considered it.
“Maybe. But Liam’s family is loaded. He doesn’t need Jay’s money.”
Aries’ eyes narrowed.
“Then what? Revenge? Against who?”
I didn’t have an answer.
Not yet.
But I would.
“My tech team is still digging,” I said, pulling up a holographic display of Liam’s known associates.
“We need to find a weak link. Someone close to him who’ll talk.”
Percy tapped his chin.
“I can reach out to some of my… acquaintances in the underground. See if anyone’s heard whispers.”
Aries cracked his knuckles.
“And I’ll tail him. If he’s planning something, I’ll find it.”
I nodded.
“Good. But we keep this quiet. No unnecessary risks. No tipping him off.”
Percy smirked.
“Since when do you care about subtlety, Shadow Reaper?”
I ignored him.
“Jay’s safety comes first. If Liam even suspects we’re onto him, he’ll accelerate his plans. And we don’t know what those are yet.”
Aries’ jaw tightened.
“Fine. But the second we have what we need—”
“Permanently.”
Percy whistled.
“Damn. And here I thought you were just the overprotective lover.”
I shot him a look.
He held up his hands in mock surrender.
“Okay, okay. Just saying. You’ve got it bad for her.”
Aries groaned.
“Can we focus?”
I ignored them both, my gaze fixed on the files.
Liam wanted a wedding?
He was going to get a funeral instead.
Later, after Aries and Percy had left, I stood alone in my office, staring out at the city skyline.
The lights of the buildings twinkled like stars, oblivious to the darkness festering beneath them.
My phone buzzed.
A message from my tech lead:
“Boss. We’ve got a hit. Liam’s been making large withdrawals from offshore accounts. All in the past week. And get this—he booked a private jet to Bali. Leaves in two weeks, exact 14 days.”
I clenched my jaw.
Two weeks, 14 days.
Which is exactly 2 days after wedding.
The same timeframe Jay had given her parents for the wedding.
Coincidence?
Not a chance.
I typed out a response:
“I want everything on that flight. Passenger list. Destination details. Now.”
Then I sent another message—this one to Aries and Percy.
“Change of plans.”
I smirked, rolling up my sleeves.
Liam thought he was playing chess.
But I was the Reaper.
And I always won.
JAY’s POV
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my fingers tracing the delicate lace of the wedding dress catalog spread open on my bed.
12 days.
That’s all that was left.
I should’ve been happy.
I should’ve been excited.
So why did my stomach twist like I’d swallowed glass?
Liam: Can’t wait to see you tomorrow, baby.
We’ve got so much to plan.
💍😘
I forced a smile, typing back a response.
Me: Me too.
💝
Then I set the phone down and pressed my forehead against the cool glass of the window.
Somewhere out there, the city pulsed with life, unaware of the storm brewing beneath its surface.
And I was standing right in the eye of it.
KEIFER’s POV
Back in my headquarters, I stared at the city lights, my reflection a shadow in the glass.
Liam had made his move.
Now it was my turn.
I pulled out my phone, scrolling to a contact I hadn’t used in years.
The call connected on the first ring.
“Reaper.” The voice on the other end was smooth, dangerous.
“To what do I owe you, Watson?”
I smiled, slow and lethal.
“I need a favor.”
