Arakawa, Tokyo.

An enormous amount of cursed energy continuously converged over the district.

The sheer concentration of cursed energy had created a terrifying storm.Full novel: JUJUTSU KAISEN: RONOVA, THE RULER OF DEATH — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The sky itself had changed.

Massive vortex-like clouds churned endlessly overhead, while crimson lightning flashed within them, creating the ominous feeling that the end of the world was approaching.

Yet despite the apocalyptic scene, a few people walked through the area as casually as if nothing were wrong.

Holding a freshly bought cup of coffee, Gojo Satoru glanced at the swirling sky before asking the student beside him, “How long has this been going on?” “The fifth day,” Fushiguro Megumi replied.

“Five days?

That’s one stubborn phenomenon.” Gojo smiled beneath his blindfold.

“Looks like something’s finally about to be born.” “With this much cursed energy…” “…whatever comes out won’t be ordinary.” Whenever cursed energy gathered on such a massive scale, it usually meant only one thing.

A cursed spirit was about to be born.

And judging from the scale of this disturbance…

It would almost certainly be a Special Grade Cursed Spirit.

Perhaps even one that surpassed ordinary Special Grades.

Fortunately, Jujutsu High had discovered the anomaly early.

Had they arrived even a few days later, the cursed spirit would likely have already been born—and disappeared without a trace.

While Gojo and Megumi waited…

At the center of the cursed energy storm— A new existence awakened.

…

“Who…

am I?” “I am…” “The Curse of Death…

born from humanity’s fear of death itself…

the ruler of all mortal endings!” The memories from character creation surfaced.

“Oh…” “So I really picked the Shade of Death.” Ronova couldn’t help chuckling.

“I actually like this design.” That single thought became the catalyst.

Driven by her subconscious self-image, the newborn cursed spirit’s body rapidly took shape according to the image engraved in her mind.

Moments later— The transformation was complete.

When the newly born cursed spirit slowly opened her eyes and looked down at herself…

She froze.

She wore elegant black garments accented with translucent black veils that gave her an ethereal, regal appearance.

After several long seconds of silence…

She reached up and pinched her own cheek.

“So soft…” “So smooth…” “It feels incredible.” “…Wait.” “This isn’t my face at all!” Ronova nearly burst into tears.

If only she hadn’t gotten distracted while customizing her appearance…

She wouldn’t have accidentally turned herself into the Shade of Death.

Still…

After calming down, she realized things weren’t entirely bad.

Sure, her gender had changed.

But she was undeniably beautiful.

Her race had changed as well.

Yet she had become a cursed spirit born from humanity’s fear of death itself.

A being who possessed authority over death.

As long as she continued growing, reaching the level of a Special Grade was practically guaranteed.

With enough strength…

She wouldn’t have to fear anyone.

Thinking about it that way…

This wasn’t a loss at all.

It was a jackpot.

Just as Ronova was happily imagining her glorious future— A curious voice sounded behind her.

“So…” “You’re the newly born Special Grade Cursed Spirit?” “You look surprisingly harmless.” Ronova stiffened.

She slowly turned around.

The moment she saw the white-haired man standing there— Cold sweat ran down her back.

Gojo Satoru.

Why was it Gojo Satoru?

How had he gotten here so quickly?

Was this even fair?

For a cursed spirit…

Encountering Gojo Satoru immediately after birth was no different from an ordinary sorcerer running into Ryomen Sukuna.

Even worse— She had literally just spawned.

She hadn’t even left the birthplace where she was born.

Yet the strongest sorcerer alive was already blocking the exit.

…

Am I seriously supposed to fight Gojo Satoru the moment I’m born?

Can I even survive this?

…

After thinking for less than a second…

Ronova decisively abandoned the idea of fighting.

She immediately surrendered.

Raising both hands, she smiled awkwardly.

“Um…” “If I said I wasn’t actually a cursed spirit…” “…would you believe me?” Looking between Gojo Satoru and Fushiguro Megumi, Ronova asked weakly.

Fighting?

Absolutely impossible.

Her only chance was talking her way out.

Unfortunately…

Gojo remained completely unmoved.

“You don’t think this blindfold means I’m actually blind, do you?” “The cursed energy pouring off you is impossible to miss.” He tilted his head slightly.

“And honestly…” “I can already tell you’re dangerous.” “If I let you grow…” “I have a feeling you could eventually kill me.” “So…” “Shouldn’t I eliminate you now while I still can?” Ronova couldn’t even argue.

His reasoning was perfectly logical.

If she were Gojo Satoru…

She would probably make the same decision.

She sighed.

Looks like there was no escaping this.

“Then…” “Let’s do this.” “I won’t necessarily lose!” Even if defeat was inevitable…

She would at least go down fighting.

However— What happened next completely exceeded Ronova’s expectations.

Gojo lowered his guard.

He chose not to attack.

As for why…

Perhaps it was simply because he was Gojo Satoru.

The strongest had always enjoyed gambling on impossible possibilities.

…

The three eventually sat atop the rooftop of a nearby high-rise.

Gojo looked at Ronova with obvious curiosity.

“So…” “What exactly are you?” Even from the instant of her birth, she had already radiated enough power to make him instinctively cautious.

That alone made her extraordinary.

Ronova considered the question before answering honestly.

“I was born from humanity’s fear of death.” “You can call me the Death Curse Spirit.” Gojo’s lips twitched.

“The fear of death…” “I guess that makes sense.” For countless generations…

Death had always been humanity’s greatest fear.

It wasn’t surprising that such overwhelming negative emotions could eventually give birth to a cursed spirit.

What surprised him…

Was that the result looked like this.

Shaking his head, Gojo asked the question that mattered most.

“So, Miss Death Curse Spirit…” “What are you planning to do from now on?” “Will you spread death across humanity?” “Or become death itself?” This answer would determine whether she lived or died.

If Ronova showed even the slightest intention of massacring innocent people…

Gojo would eliminate her immediately.

Instead— Ronova looked at him as though he had asked the dumbest question imaginable.

“…What’s with that look?” Gojo asked.

“Was my question really that strange?” “Of course it was.” Ronova folded her arms.

“Do I need to personally create death?” “Millions of people die every year.” “Do you think I have enough free time to watch every single one?” “That sounds exhausting.” She looked directly at Gojo, her crimson eyes unusually serious.

“You misunderstand what I represent.” “Life and death exist in balance.” “I have no interest in destroying that balance.” “My duty is to preserve it.” “So the ones I’ll hunt…” “…are those who deliberately bring about senseless mass death…” “…and those who desperately cling to life after they should have already died.” Those beings…

Were the true enemies of Death.

As the cursed spirit born from humanity’s fear of death, Ronova grew stronger by witnessing death.

But ordinary death was far too inefficient.

If she truly wanted to grow rapidly…

She needed to eliminate those who distorted the natural cycle of life and death.

Mass murderers.

Calamities.

And beings who defied death itself.

Only by restoring that balance…

Could the Death Curse Spirit continue evolving toward her true potential.
