Fireworks shot through the air, leaving behind that indescribable smell, as onlookers stared in awe, you couldn’t help but think how perfect life was here, a lively peaceful town with amazing culture and friendly townsfolk, on the surface it was as good as life got, but no matter how great something may look, nothing is perfect.
Amidst all the happiness is bound to be sorrow, happiness isn’t a guarantee, it’s a passing emotion, a temporary state.
“Get up ya drunk bastard!” Ryuki remarked with a sharp grin.
“Wha-hrgh, ah what do you want, damn delinquent.” replied an elderly, balding man with a beer belly and an old yukata that was stained with beer and other alcohols, “You need to help at the stand, Mom and Yukka can’t fend off against the mindless festival hordes alone, be a man for once and help out.” Ryuki remarked now looking slightly annoyed.
He didn’t have much going for him himself, but still talked like he did, he was no more a man than the sorry drunkard he was talking to, he always started conversations with a teethy grin, but would always remove it quickly, his hair was a dark blonde and messy, but on occasions such as a Festival, he would get his sister Yukka to do it, always remarking he didn’t care what she did but would in spite of that, get annoyed if she made his hair anything but spiky.
And yet Yukka would always comply, she wanted to practice being a hairdresser, she wanted to work in fashion after all, she always used to look mesmerised at models and well dressed people on TV.
“Fine.
I’ll come and help, yknow, you should let your elders rest, i wasn’t hurting nobody.” The Old Man replied, lifting himself up off the floor, before brushing dirt off his yukata.
“Yeah, you can rest, just not in an alleyway and because you drank too much, you agreed to help at the stall, so you can bet your dirty drunk ass I’m making sure you help at the damn stall, just because you’re old doesn’t give you a pass to do nothing.” Ryuki remarked, looking more annoyed.
they went over to the stall, pushing through crowds of people, dressed in traditional clothes, and then the lazy people in T-Shirts and shorts.
“Took you long enough.” Yukka said without looking over her shoulder.
“It’s not easy convincing a 72 year old baby to do something.
Be glad i managed to get him here.” Ryuki said, still annoyed.
“Now now, don’t go getting snappy at each other, there’s stuff to do.
Ryuki, you can go now, you don’t need to help anymore, and Jin, get on the grill.” Ryuki’s Mom said, in a completely calm voice.
It truly is a miracle how Moms can stay perfectly calm at any moment.
The old man went over to the grill, and grabbed a beer, went to open it, only to have it snatched away by Yukka, “You have had more than enough.” Even though they were close, Yukka And Ryuki never called Jin by his name, but rather called him things like “Old Geezer” and “Wise Drunkard”.
Ryuki waved goodbye, then walked away, and pulled out his phone, he went into a group chat and said he had been “dismissed” from his duties, quickly getting replies, telling him to where to meet up with everyone.
As he approached them, he couldn’t help but look back on what they had done, from planning heists on school cafeterias when merely in Elementary School, sneaking around abandoned buildings, and all the times they hung out.
“Don’t worry people, i am here!” Ryuki exclaimed to the group.
“Trust me, no one, was worried about YOU.” Replied a messy brown haired short boy.
“Ouch, do you no longer love me Amane?
Did that night mean nothing to you?” Ryuki jeered playfully, as he joined into the group.
“You two are seriously the same, i can imagine you being born, and acting like this, you mirror each other perfectly, and you always have.
its creepy.” said a girl with long black hair, kept well and in a ponytail-Runa.
Ryuki went to reply to the remark, but looked to the side of Runa, and immediately flung out his phone and started taking photos.
Runa turns around to see the group lovebirds, being so sweet they would rot your teeth.
It wasn’t new for them to be like this to each other, but they would always make fun of them for it.
Amane started hugging himself and kissing, waving his hips around.
“Oh i loooove you so much, mmmmm this is great” he said, in close proximity to the lovers.
They only recently started going out, yet they were so close to each other.
It only happened a month ago, but they were so close they were practically one.
They zoned back into reality, before getting embarrassed by everyone looking at them, while Ryuki took enough photos to cover a wall.
“Well, we are all here now, lets go, i heard rumours of that old factory being cursed, so you know we gotta explore it.” Runa said.
