Tara and Cain were already in the car, which was a 2020 BMW i8.
“Where do you want to go first?” Cain asked as he focused on the road while driving.
Tara looked at Cain gently and said, “I really don’t know places here, or maybe I forgot, so let’s just go deeper into the city and see.
Maybe there are many interesting things that I will like.”
Cain only gave her a gentle smile in response to her answer.
The trip to the city from their villa was a forty-minute drive.
As they got deeper into the city, Tara looked around curiously when she noticed an old store that did not even have a signboard.
She was amazed at how a store could be open without a signboard, so she told Cain to stop the car at a nearby area because she wanted to check out the store.
Cain stopped the car at a parking area close to the store, and they walked there since cars were not allowed in that section.
Tara and Cain stood in front of the store, and Tara opened the door before stepping inside.
As soon as she entered, she was stunned because the store was huge inside and filled with countless stalls.
“Wow, I did not expect this when I thought of coming here,” Tara said in amazement.
“What do you mean?” Cain asked, confused.
“What do I mean?
Like, Cain, look at this place.
It’s amazing.
Nicely arranged stalls selling different kinds of stuff,” Tara said excitedly.
Cain looked at her strangely because almost every city and district had such indoor markets.
Then he remembered that she had lost her memory, so she probably did not remember anything.
“It’s nothing serious, Tara, but why did you choose to come here?” Cain asked curiously.
“I was just curious since this store didn’t have a signboard, and boy, it gave me more surprise than I anticipated.
But I love it, so babe,” she called as she looked at Cain with gently sparkling eyes, “let’s explore this beautiful indoor market.” She skipped excitedly in place while waiting for Cain’s permission.
Cain looked at Tara with an amused expression before answering, “Sure, let’s go.”
He took her hand, and they started walking from stall to stall, looking at items they found interesting.
If Tara liked something, Cain would buy it for her.
The most interesting thing about the stalls in the store was that customers bought things through ordering systems.
A person would choose what they wanted, pay for it, and the items would later be delivered to them to avoid any mishaps.
Cain and Tara were so immersed in their little world that they failed to notice someone watching them from a distance.
“Tara?
What is she doing here?
And who’s that man she is with?” the person muttered.
The person took a couple of pictures of Tara with Cain, but Cain was not clearly visible because the market was crowded with people constantly passing by.
Unfortunately, Tara was standing in an open spot where everyone could easily see her.
The person quickly took out her phone and dialed a number.
The call did not take long to connect, and before she could even place the phone to her ear, a male voice sounded from the other side.
“Hey baby, why are you calling now?
Thought you said you would come to the hotel once you were done with your business at the indoor market.”
“Frank, I just saw Tara here at the market with a man.
I think it’s her lover.
The woman removed the phone from her ear and went to her messages to send the pictures she had taken of Tara and the blurry half-seen man beside her.
Afterward, she placed the phone back to her ear.
“What nonsense is this, Venessa?
You just sent me pictures of Tara with a man, but why is the man blurry?” Frank asked with restrained anger.
“Well, I tried to take pictures of the man, but he was standing at a blind spot.
Moreover, I took a lot of pictures, and people were starting to look at me strangely, so I had to stop,” Venessa explained.
The whole time Venessa was talking to Frank, she had been looking elsewhere instead of where Tara and Cain were standing.
When she turned back to confirm their location, she realized they were gone.
“So you’re saying they’re there right now?” Frank asked as he abruptly stood up from wherever he was sitting.
“They’re not here anymore,” Venessa answered in frustration as she walked around the stalls looking for any trace of Tara and Cain.
“What do you mean?” Frank yelled angrily, causing Venessa to pull the phone away from her ear for a moment.
“I’m serious.
I can’t find them anymore,” Venessa said while continuing her search.
“Did you look carefully?” Frank demanded.
“Yes, I did,” Venessa answered, trying to suppress her irritation before continuing, “I’m leaving anyway.
I’m done with what I wanted to do.”
“No, you can’t leave.
Find them.
Look for them.
I need Tara,” Frank commanded angrily.
Venessa was shocked by the tone Frank used on her, so she replied with obvious annoyance.
“If you’re so eager to find your fiancée, why don’t you come here and look for her yourself?
Or maybe get a search party.
I’m hanging up.
Bye.”
She immediately cut the call in anger.
While Venessa remained frustrated by Frank’s reaction, Frank himself was seething with rage.
“Huh, Tara Logan.
You missed our engagement and disappeared, causing it to be postponed again, only for me to find out that you’re out there with another man, having fun.”
He stared intensely at the picture on his phone.
“This is the first time I’m seeing you smile so genuinely, but it wasn’t for me.
Instead, it was for another man.
Why, Tara?
Why?
I love you so much, so why can’t you ever look at me, huh?
I even got together with that lowly cousin you call your best friend just to make you jealous, but still no reaction.”
He began laughing for several moments as he stared at the ceiling.
Then he looked back at the picture again before speaking.
“Before, I thought you were like this because maybe you couldn’t love, or maybe you just needed time.
You couldn’t love me because of him.”
He stared at the blurry image of Cain.
“But no worries.
Once I find out who he is, he won’t be an obstacle between us.”
He looked back at the picture of Tara laughing happily.
“We’ll get engaged and married happily, and we’ll build a home together.”
As he finished speaking, he stared into space, his eyes slowly shifting from infatuation and hurt to pure malice and anger.
On the other side, Tara was already tired from shopping in the market, so she told Cain that she was tired and hungry.
Cain took her out of the store, and they returned to the car.
“Cain, I said I’m hungry, and we just passed restaurants,” she complained while pouting irritably.
Cain looked at Tara and chuckled before replying, “The street food here is nice, but for now I’m not sure if it’s safe for you, so let’s go to a more exquisite restaurant.”
“What do you mean?” Tara asked in confusion.
Cain became lost in thought.
Because I still don’t know your detailed medical status, I can’t let you eat random food in case it lands you back in the hospital, he thought silently.
“Cain?
Cain?” Tara called, trying to pull him out of his thoughts.
“Oh, I meant that you just got out of the hospital, so I think eating street food is not a good idea,” Cain quickly explained.
Tara looked at Cain skeptically before saying, “Aren’t you being too exaggerated about all this?”
“Nope.
I’m just being cautious,” Cain replied while focusing on driving.
Tara stared at Cain oddly before turning to look outside the window, and the rest of the drive remained quiet.
Fifteen minutes later, they arrived at an exquisite restaurant.
The sides of the entrance were decorated with beautiful flowers, and a red carpet stretched from the front door.
Tara looked at Cain nervously and asked, “Are you sure this is a restaurant, babe?” She clutched Cain’s arm tightly.
“Yep,” Cain replied casually.
Several people were entering and leaving the restaurant, and every single one of them was dressed formally.
“Cain,” Tara called seriously.
Cain turned toward her only to find her wearing a nervous expression.
“Let’s go somewhere else.
I don’t want to eat here.”
“Why?” Cain asked, perplexed.
“Look at this place, for crying out loud, and look at how I’m dressed.
Moreover, I don’t think I’ll have a good appetite here,” Tara admitted honestly as she looked around.
She was stunned to notice that some people were staring at her and Cain strangely.
Cain looked at Tara, amused by this new side of her, but he did not laugh.
Instead, he simply held her hand and gently pulled her into the restaurant.
