Tara and Cain had been living harmoniously since the last incident.

It was a new day where Cain and Tara had to live together as a real couple—to Tara—and as a fake couple—to Cain.

Tara was in the sitting room watching TV and relaxing while Cain descended the stairs.Full novel: just Let it go — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Tara looked up, saw Cain coming down, and smiled warmly.

“Hello, babe,” she greeted happily.

Cain smiled the moment he saw Tara and walked toward her, humming softly in acknowledgment of her greeting.

“What are you doing?” he asked as he sat beside her.

“Well, my dear man, I’m watching TV.

What about huh?” Tara replied with a smile on her face, though her curious eyes stayed fixed on him.

Cain raised an eyebrow at Tara’s question.

Tara rolled her eyes.

“I meant, what were you doing upstairs that whole time?”

Cain chuckled at her reaction before replying, “Well, I was in my study doing some work.

Since you just got discharged the day before yesterday, I thought maybe I could stay home until you feel more comfortable again.”

Tara looked at Cain with a gentle smile.

“That is so sweet of you, but I think I don’t need you anymore, so you can go back to your work.”

After saying that, she continued watching TV nonchalantly.

Cain was stunned by what Tara said.

Usually, the lady always tried her best to stay close to him, but today she was completely focused on the TV.

Deciding to test the waters, he leaned closer and gently whispered into her ear.

“Are you sure?”

“Mmmh,” Tara hummed in agreement while still looking completely lost in the TV.

Cain noticed it immediately, and annoyance began to rise within him.

“Aaah.”

He suddenly took the remote from Tara and changed the channel.

“Hey!

Why did you do that?” Tara exclaimed in shock, with a hint of annoyance in her tone.

“Why are you always busy with the TV?

Can’t you do something else?” Cain asked calmly while thinking to himself, Finally, I got her attention.

“What now?

Do you not love me anymore because I decided to be a couch potato?” Tara asked in an annoyed tone, glaring at him as if daring him to answer wrongly.

Cain swallowed hard and chuckled nervously.

“Of course not.”

“Well, it seems like it.

Now, if you have nothing else to say, can I have the remote back?” Tara asked while staring at the remote with sparkling eyes as though it were the most cherished thing in the world.

Cain noticed the look in her eyes and could only sigh before handing the remote back to her.

Tara quickly took it and switched the channel back to what she had been watching before.

Cain remained seated the entire time, silently observing her.

After a while, he took out his phone and texted Jade.

Need help with a problem.

kkkk what did you do to the girl this time (Jade)

Can you be serious?

(Cain)

Just spill the beans, bro.

(Jade)

Well, seems like I’m in her bad books again.

(Cain)

Go on.

(Jade)

She was watching TV, and I just wanted to get her attention, so I took the remote and changed the channel.

Then next thing I saw was her changing on me.

(Cain)

kkkkkk wow, bro, your problems are so funny.

Why do you always end up in the most awkward situations with her?

(Jade)

Just help and stop with your nonsense.

(Cain)

Jade did not reply for a few minutes.

Ok, ok, bro.

Just take her out.

Since she hasn’t left the house in a while, take her somewhere.

Maybe you might get her attention.

(Jade)

Cain ignored the teasing and only thanked him before putting his phone away.

He exhaled softly before calling out to Tara.

“Hey.”

Tara immediately stiffened before pausing the TV and turning toward him with a suspicious glare.

Cain was shocked by her reaction and wondered what he had done wrong.

“Did I do something wrong?” he asked, perplexed.

Tara adjusted her sitting position so that her whole body faced Cain.

“Cain, why do you always call me Tara or some random stuff?” she asked seriously.

Cain looked confused.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I call you babe sometimes, but since we met, you haven’t called me any sweet or intimate names.

Not once.

So my question is why?”

Cain was stunned by her question.

But how could he tell her the truth?

That all of this was fake?

That he was only trying his best to help her recover her memories by becoming part of her present ones?

Cain?”

Tara’s voice snapped him back to reality.

“Why are you spacing out when I’m asking you something?” Tara asked curiously, a little worried.

Cain did not want another argument, so he quickly stood up.

“I’m thirsty.

I’ll go to the kitchen.”

Before he could even take a step, Tara grabbed his wrist.

“We have Harriet for that, and you don’t have to avoid my question,” Tara said while looking at him intensely.

“No, no, I just wanted to get water to cool myself,” Cain hurriedly explained.

“And what did I just say?” Tara asked.

“That Harriet is here for that?” Cain replied doubtfully.

“Exactly.

Now sit down and answer my question,” Tara said as she gently pulled his wrist.

Cain knew he could not answer that question.

At the same time, he could not avoid it either.

So he simply did the first thing that came to his mind.

“Dear, do you want to go out?” Cain suddenly asked.

“Aaah!” Tara squealed softly.

“Really?” she asked excitedly, her eyes sparkling.

“Yes,” Cain replied, chuckling in amusement at how quickly she had changed from an interrogating person into a bubbly and excited one.

Then Tara’s mood suddenly changed again as she narrowed her eyes suspiciously at him.

“Are you saying this just to avoid my question?”

Ouch.

The girl is really good at guessing things, Cain thought inwardly.

“Of course not, dear.

I was even about to tell you that when I called you before,” he replied smoothly.

“Really?” Tara asked, still looking at him with a probing gaze.

“I promise,” Cain said, chuckling lightly at her behavior.

“So when are we leaving for the outing?” Tara asked excitedly.

“We can leave anytime you want,” Cain replied, amused.

“Then I’ll go get ready.

You should too!” Tara said happily as she hurried toward the stairs leading to her room.

“Woooo!

I’m so excited for our first outing!” she exclaimed while climbing the stairs in a rush.

“Hey, walk slowly,” Cain called out while smiling as he watched the excited Tara disappear upstairs.

Then his smile slowly faded as he suddenly stiffened.

He had started enjoying these little moments with Tara.

He knew none of it was real.

So why couldn’t he resist it?

Do y’ll think love is actually building up between these two or its another situation whereby one of them just has to get through with it and their done.
