Look, I know I’m very good at sex and I had just fucked your brains out but when you do get your brain back, get dressed and get the fuck out of here.” Tristan ordered.

Kayla felt like crying.

Well, there goes another rich man out of her grasp.

She wondered why no man ever wanted to take her seriously!

************

On Monday, Daphne took her mother to the hospital for a follow-up checkup.

While buying a bottle of water, she saw Dante approaching.

Not wanting to interact with him, Daphne pretended not to see him but as she turned to leave, Dante called out her name.

“Daphne.”

Sighing, Daphne turned around.

“Hello.”

He hurried over to her.

“So glad I ran into you here.

I was meaning to meet up with you.”

“Why?” She asked, curiously.

“I heard you no longer work at TM.

There’s an open position at my company, Mont Group, this position is quite high to the point that you can choose any salary amount of your choice.” Dante let out, greatly hoping she’d agree.

“I already have a job.”

Those words hit him like a blow and before he could say anything further, she turned and walked away.

Daphne returned to her mother’s side.

The chief physician showed her special attention and even proactively asked for her number.

When Daphne went back to retrieve the medical records, she overheard the chief physician on the phone and learned that it was Dante who had made the

arrangements for her mother to receive standard aftercare.

Feeling very grateful to him, Daphne sent Dante a message to thank him.

Dante quickly replied.

He was so happy she was grateful for his gesture.

Dante: It’s no problem at all.

You’re always welcome.

Daphne realized that out of Tristan, Trevor and Dante, Dante was the only one who had treated her like a person.

And so feeling indebted to, she told him he could ask her for help if he ever needed it.

*********

When Daphne got home that day, Susan suddenly asked.

“I noticed you aren’t talking about the wedding anymore and after those engagement gifts somehow disappeared, you haven’t even brought up the plans you’re making.”

Daphne’s teeth clenched and she decided not to hide this any longer.

It was time to face it.

Turning to face her mother, she announced.

“Trevor and I broke up.

There will be no wedding.”

Susan was shocked.

“What…How…why?”

“Because there’s no such thing as true love in this world.

Didn’t you also experience that?

Men are fickle and they’d always leave…”

“Daphne, I know your father leaving us was hard but you can use that to judge every man on the planet.

Trevor is a good man and…and…”

“Trevor isn’t a good man for me!”

“Look, whatever happened can be…”

“Mom, I need you to accept this.

Trevor and I are over.

I do not want to talk about him ever again.” With that, Daphne stormed off.

Susan panicked.

What could have happened?

What could have gone wrong?

Could it be that it was because Trevor was always busy?

Daphne should have tried to be more understanding.

Knowing her daughter’s stubborn nature, Susan decided to try a different approach by reaching out to Trevor.

But for that week, it was hard to get a hold of Trevor.

It seemed like he was extremely busy.

*********

Trevor was indeed busy.

After Daphne quit, no one was making decisions on TM projects, everything rested on his shoulders and though he was the boss, he wasn’t used to it as Daphne did almost everything before.

He had thought he could share some burdens with Mabel but for that week, Mabel claimed to be busy with her mother and she rarely came by the company.

Trevor missed how Daphne used to put the company above everything else.

Now his workload had skyrocketed, forcing him to work overtime every day.

**********

Returning home late one night after working overtime, Trevor found a three-day-old instant noodle soup left in the kitchen that had gone bad, and the fridge was empty.

Only then did he realize that Daphne had always been the one taking care of the apartment, she was even the one who hired the cleaning lady.

Not able to take it anymore, she gave Daphne a call.

Daphne, thinking her mother must have reached out to him, answered the call.

She wanted him to tell her mother the truth and not give her any ideas.

But before she could speak, Trevor let out, wearily.

“Stop messing around and come back to work, Daphne.

I can’t do anything without you.

Do you not care about the company anymore?

Do you not care about me anymore?”

Daphne frowned.

Wasn’t it obvious?

“And why hasn’t the cleaning lady come by of recent?”

“Her contract expired long ago.

Didn’t you notice?

Find yourself a new one.

Trevor, I really don’t care about anything that has to do with you so stop complaining to me.” With that, she hung up.

Since he didn’t talk about her mother, perhaps, her mother had given up.

***************

The weekend rolled by and Trevor fell sick.

His body wasn’t used to the amount of work he had done at the company recently.

Hearing a knock at the door, he thought Daphne had arrived.

He knew she had been bluffing on the phone.

Hearing that he couldn’t do anything without her had definitely touched her heart.

He rushed up to the door but his face fell on seeing Mabel.

“What?

Were you expecting me to come by that badly?” She asked with a smile.

Trevor forced a smile.

“Yeah.

But you didn’t tell me you were coming.”

“When we talked on the phone this morning, you didn’t sound okay.

Of course I had to come check on my boyfriend.

And I brought you some porridge.” She said walking in.

Trevor was grateful for the porridge as she served it to him.

“I made it myself.” She added.

He smiled and thanked her, even if he had some doubts about that.

She rarely cooked.

After Mabel left, Trevor wanted to ask Daphne to help him look for a new cleaning lady.

But when he sent a message, it didn’t go through and then he realized that she had blocked him.

His teeth clenched as he fumed.

Wasn’t she going too far?!

*************

At work on Monday, Trevor received a call from Susan.

She told him she knew Daphne was just being stubborn and unreasonable by initiating the breakup.

She promised to talk to her and asked Trevor to be patient and wait a little longer.

After hearing this, Trevor became even more certain that Daphne was just throwing a tantrum and would come back sooner or later.

He declared that next time, he would make Daphne beg him to take her back.

A knock sounded on his door.

“Come in.”

Mabel walked in with a flask of water.

“I brought lunch for you, my love.

I had prepared it myself this morning.”

She served the dishes to him and Trevor smiled at the aroma.

Maybe she had become a good cook.

He realized that he might have been overthinking last week.

Mabel might’ve genuinely been super busy and he was wishing Daphne could come back.

He felt a bit bad about it.

While Mabel genuinely wanted to be with him, he was spending his time missing Daphne.

He was such an idiot!

Mabel was clearly the best choice in every way.

Sure, she needed time now to adjust to managing the company with him, but she could really ended up by better than Daphne at working here.

He would be crazy to beg Daphne again.

All he needed was right here with him.

************

The FinTech Forum was held.

Daphne arrived in Marco’s car.

Marco was surrounded by industry heavyweights greeting him and, when he turned around, he couldn’t find Daphne beside him.

After being pushed out of the crowd, Daphne took the opportunity to look at the product displays from various companies and took notes on useful information, only to be spotted by Trevor and Mabel.

Trevor immediately assumed that she was at the forum to look for a job, believing no one but him knew how truly talented she was.

If she wanted to work elsewhere, she would need connections which unfortunately for her, but fortunately for him, she didn’t have.

“Isn’t that Daphne?” Mabel let out, loudly so even Daphne could hear.

She turned and saw them.

“It seems she’s here alone.

We should invite her to join us.” Mabel offered.

“No need.” Trevor snapped and walked away, placing his arm around Mabel’s waist.

Daphne watched the two walk away, looking so close, and rolled her eyes.

She then received a message from Marco that the event was almost starting, she rushed to the auditorium.

To avoid drawing attention, she found a random seat, only to discover that Trevor and Mabel were sitting just two seats away.
