Okay, it’s time we head for the next world.

Chapter 22: Welcome to Nightmare Land Nigel was standing on a strange, gray platform in the center of a dark purple realm.

“Ugh… where am I?” “Welcome, Nigel Uno.” “What?Full novel: Kids Next Door Gameverse: The First Generation — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Who’s there?” “It is I: the Nightmare King.” “What?!

Dimentia told me about you!

You-” “Save your breath.

I know all that exists in your mind.

Your fears… your humiliation… your regrets…” “I won’t regret kicking your butt as soon as I see it!” “I will not show my face to you now, but if you wish to see me, then come to my homeland of Nightmare Land in the darkest corner of Galaxia, alone.” “And just why would I do that?” “Because I have something I think you want.

Something you need.

Does SHE seem familiar?” Out of the darkness, an image could be seen of an orange-haired girl with a ponytail.

“EVA!” “Yes.

I have Eva Roberts in my custody.

If you want to save her, come to the Fear Factory in Nightmare Land.

I’ve marked the location of Nightmare Land on your map.

And remember: come alone, and don’t tell Dimentia.

Or else.” The nightmare ended and Numbuh 1 was back in his room just in time to hear his alarm clock.

HAANH!

HAANH!

HAANH!

Nightmare Land “I sent him the message.” the Nightmare King said.

“I’ll leave you to the rest.” Eva smirked evilly.

“Perfect.

I can’t wait to see Nigel again!” GKND H.Q.; Hangar Nigel was getting in his Arwing, preparing to take off, with his friends watching him.

“Are you SURE we can’t come with you?” Dib asked.

“Yeah.

How do you know he’s really got your cousin?

What if it’s a trap?” Ava asked.

“Yeah!” Marine agreed.

“Didn’t Rachel just tell us Zim tried to kidnap her outta some hostage plan?

Wot if he wants you to hand over those Stars or somethin’?” “Then why wouldn’t he demand me to bring the Stars?

I feel like he wants something else.

Whether he’s got her or not, I need to speak to this king.” “Hast thou gone MAD?” Luvbi exclaimed.

“This be NOT like any other planet we hath been to!

This is yonder Nightmare Land!

The realm where all greatest fears are unleashed, and yonder Fear Factory is the worst of all!” “Then it’s a good thing you’re not coming along.

I can handle myself against a few minor fears.

Even my own.

You guys just make sure Dimentia doesn’t find out.” “WAIT UP, KID!” Numbuh 20×40 rushed into the hangar.

“N-Numbuh 20×40?!” “My instincts are tellin’ me you’re off on some dangerous mission.

So, I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer you my newest weapon for 6,000 Bolts!

It’s the B.U.B.B.O.U.N.C.E..!

I made it with Aquarian tech!” “Alright.

Thanks, mate.” Galactic Kids Next Door: B.U.B.B.O.U.N.C.E.

Bubbly Utility Bounces Baddies Outward Useful Nuance Causes Enjoyment “You really gotta push those acronyms sometimes, huh?” Dib asked.

“You try doing this for a living, smarty.

Well, Uno, I don’t know what errand’s taking you where, but best of luck to ya’s.” The vendor left.

“You guys, too.

See you later.” Nigel climbed in his Arwing and took off.

“I hope he knows what he’s doing.” Dib said.

“Yeah.

Listen, you guys go see what Dimentia’s doing, I need to go do something.” Ava replied.

With curious looks, the others nodded and ran off.

A dark part of Galaxia (Play “Sector X” from Star Fox 64.) Galactic Offense, Act 7 Nigel flew alone in a dark corner of Galaxia.

No nebulas were visible and the stars had grown dim.

There were, however, asteroids, their hue so dark-gray that they were almost camouflaged.

Nigel maneuvered around them, but was ambushed by small fighter drones.

They looked decrepit, and even creepier, Nigel detected no life signs.

He deflected their lasers and took them down, but as he flew out from a trench of asteroids, a mechanical skeletal hand tried to grab him.

“The heck was that?!” The hand didn’t make a second attempt at him, but he was wary as he kept flying.

He would have to fly through a tunnel within a giant asteroid, flipping on his Arwing’s headlights.

“WHOA!” There were tons of small mines inside the tunnel, and his ship suffered some burns as they started bursting.

There was a small gap between this tunnel and another one—two robot hands attempted to clap him, but he barely broke in time.

Nigel carefully maneuvered as this tunnel shifted in various angles, eventually leading him out.

Nigel could almost make out a floating island with a city in the distance; at least it gave some light to this area.

“Hmm…” He thought back to his joke captain’s log from earlier.

How dark and lonely it was out in space… without teammates to travel with.

Nigel approached a giant car and needed to shoot through its windshield, but the robot hands clicked on its wipers.

Nigel boosted to bypass them.

For the second car, they clicked on its windshield spray, wetting Nigel’s engine as he sank slightly and bumped the back of the car.

Nigel saw a glowing indigo asteroid flying past and barely recovered his Arwing in time to shoot it.

An Indigo Wisp was released; planet-shaped with a ring around it and antenna.

The Wisp flew into Nigel as he closed in on a clustered asteroid field.

“ASTEROID!” The Wisp granted Nigel a gravitational field: the asteroids shattered as its pieces orbited his Arwing.

They became a shield from the swarm of Ghost Fighters and their storm of lasers.

The Color Power wore off, but the two robot arms appeared in his path.

They linked to a giant head designed like a realistic human woman.

“Where is the creator?” she asked in a serious, haunting tone.

“What?” “YOU ARE AN ENEMY!” Her eyes brimmed yellow as she tried to swat him.

Nigel targeted the bolts around her face, causing the outer shell of her face to fall apart.

Underneath were yellow energy veins, resembling a human’s inner skin.

“I must terminate.” Nigel targeted her teeth, but had to dodge sideways when the robot gnashed at him.

When all the teeth were destroyed, her face fell apart again, exposing the skull underneath.

“Why did the creator ABANDON ME?!” She began swiping her hands more erratically, Nigel scrambling to evade.

He fired at her eyes this time until they were smoldering and blind.

“I MUST BE COMPLETE!” Still shaking about with no aim, she bashed her skull against an asteroid and shattered.

Nigel breathed in relief as he closed in on the floating city.

There was even a parking lot on its outskirts.

(End song.) As soon as he landed, he looked around to see the town was populated by monsters.

Some of them were your average werewolves, vampires, or otherwise, while others looked a bit more… psychotic.

Although, despite it being in the middle of space, the air was as fresh there as in the Star Haven.

“For a Nightmare town, this place doesn’t seem all that scary.” he said to himself as he made his way to the center.

There appeared to be an enormous statue of a cloaked demon with a big nose and horns.

“Alright… where to find this factory.” (Play “Asteroid Coaster Act 1” from Sonic Colors!) Stage 17: Nightmare Land Mission: Find the Fear Factory.

Addendum: Most of this level’s enemies are from either Kirby or Mario RPG.

Crossing the first street of the city, there was a group of Frogogs (muscular bipedal frogs) walking K-9’s (bipedal blue-furred dogs with milky eyes).

When the K-9’s barked and tried to run at Nigel, the boy shot the C.A.T.I.F.I.E.R.

to transform them and blast them without hassle.

The angered Frogogs hopped away and spat globs of water.

Nigel tested his new B.U.B.B.O.U.N.C.E.: a large condensed water ball would bounce around with great force before exploding and knocking the enemies down.

Police cars with gaping, screaming mouths began converging.

Nigel saw a path sloping up and above the streets, so he thought it a safe route to go above most of the havoc.

Round pink flies called Bronto Burts flew at Nigel, in which the Z.A.P.P.

was good at fending them off.

The elevated path forked in two directions, but the left path led to a dead end while the right was broken.

The dead end path had a green, faced bubble called a Zebon.

Nigel approached it cautiously; it seemed harmless.

But when he touched it, the Zebon spat him into the nearby wall.

“Ow!” Forming an idea, Nigel grabbed his A.B.S.O.R.B.O.

and sucked the Zebon in.

He brought it to the broken path and released it, so the smiling bubble could spit him to the other side like a cannon.

Nigel saw a Skull Train at the end of this elevated pavilion.

Two flying creatures came toward him: they were masses of clustered pink bats with a pig snout and single pair of wings.

As Nigel cringed at the Enigmas, he remembered he did have an ally to help him: Mr.

Zurkon.

“Nightmare Land will now know true fear.

Now that Mr.

Zurkon is here!” Zurkon blasted one Enigma while Nigel used the C.A.T.I.F.I.E.R.

to change the other’s segments into cats.

He reached the Skull Train just as it was about to take off, but he shot his G.R.A.P.P.L.U.H.

at a latch on its roof.

“GET OFF MAH SPINE.” The front of the train bent its face up, flaring its mouth and eyes at the shock-ridden human.

The face spat flaming, horned skulls at the Brit, who side-flipped in evasion.

The face began mustering a flame to scorch its whole roof, but fortunately, Nigel saw another train overhead going the opposite way.

He grappled a target on its underside.

“GET OFF MAH PELVIS!” This train bent its head down to yell at Nigel.

It spat more horned skulls, with Nigel having to swing from his vantage to evade.

This train came to stop at a station, with Nigel able to drop to a foothold below.

Nigel walked down stairs to a tomato garden.

Giant tomatoes popped out of the soil; they had angry eyes and saliva-drenched fangs.

Nigel shot the B.U.B.B.O.U.N.C.E.

to squash them into ketchup.

This drew the anger of the Hobgoblin gardeners; ghouls with oozing green skulls, rags, and mushroom tops.

Nigel endured their claw swipes and blasted his S.H.O.O.T.E.R.

in turn.

The next part of the garden had giant carrots, which popped out and revealed to have empty, ghoulish black eye sockets and mouths.

He used the N.I.N.S.T.A.R.

to slice up the Carroboscis.

One of the carrots was a brighter orange than the others: it released a Rocket Wisp!

Nigel absorbed it and looked up for a place he could fly.

There was another Zebon several meters up.

“ROCKET!” Nigel flew into the green bubble, and the Zebon would rotate.

He would have to launch out when it faced the desired direction, which was toward another Zebon.

Nigel rocketed between several Zebon to cut through the city, but spiky balls called Gordos threatened to close in and pop them.

The Color Power wore off above a small zoo.

A pair of elephants charged at him; their eyes were moved to their trunks and their trunk holes over their eye areas.

He used B.O.O.M.E.R.s to fell the monstrosities.

“DA LA DA-DA-DA-DA, DA-DA-DA-DAAAAA!” Afterwards, a trio of Man-Horses galloped around him; they were horses riding human-looking men with gags in their mouths.

Nigel summoned Mr.

Zurkon to help fight them, dodging their spiked whips and whipping the Z.A.P.P..

Nigel climbed a vine wall out of the zoo, and as Nightmare civilians fled from him out of fear, cop cars converged.

“Knightmares, bring him down!” They were Sir Kibbles, Blade Knights, and Waddle Doos.

The Z.A.P.P.

could easily shock the knights through their metal while he otherwise popped the Doos’ eyes with the S.H.O.O.T.E.R..

Nigel followed a road that cut straight to the Fear Factory.

The factory’s gates were sealed, but connected to two generator towers, which the human could shoot down with the V.I.S.S.I.L.E..

As the gates opened, Nigel had to steel himself for a moment.

He was going to see the alleged and terrible Nightmare King with no friends to back him up.

He thought back to how helpless he felt when Professor XXXL took him prisoner… except that somewhat worked out in the end.

He doubted it would be the same here… and yet he felt no malicious intent from the king in that dream.

He pressed on and entered… though first, he looked around, noticing something was odd.

“Where’s the mariachi band?

Probably too afraid to come along.” He proceeded inside.

Coruscant; Corneria Star Wolf were sitting in yellowish-brown ships, with six wings and two engines.

Rattlesnake Jake’s new armor was lined up with several more wings, more lasers, and six rockets.

“Okay, team, I just got a call from Red.” Wolf said.

“We’re heading for Nightmare Land!” “Wait until that brat gets a load of our new ships!” Leon snickered.

“It will most definitely put him to the test.” Panther replied.

“Let’ssssss earn us a meal.” Jake hissed.

Nightmare Land Dungeon 7: Fear Factory Mission: Confront the Nightmare King.

Addendum: Some enemies here are from Yoshi’s Story.

Nigel traversed a hallway that was seemingly empty and dim with flickering lights.

As they flickered, Nigel briefly saw a life-sized blue bunny with a top-hat appear down the hall.

He walked forward warily—”AAAAIII!” The bunny suddenly blipped in front and strangled him.

Nigel fished for his N.I.N.S.T.A.R.

to carve the stuff toy up, but it wasn’t filled with cotton: it was filled with lice.

Monstrous lice that he recognized from one of the Delightful Children’s attacks.

Nigel bypassed them and entered a more vast chamber where the lights still flickered, briefly exposing the far-apart, swinging platforms.

Nigel jumped them without issue; his Z.A.P.P.

could also provide light.

He then had to jump to an open door—”BAAAAAP!” a giant head with exposed inner skin popped up and nearly burped him off his platform before going back down.

Nigel shook back to his senses and jumped into the next room, landing on a conveyor belt full of unflattened tongues.

BAM.

BAM.

BAM.

Giant hammers were smashing the tongues in rhythm, and if Nigel didn’t time his dodges carefully, he’d wind up flattened as well.

Nigel saw a grapple point and shot his G.R.A.P.P.L.U.H., landing on a giant tooth held up by a crane.

There was a line of craned teeth that were doomed to be grinded by drills, but the Brit dropped down into their piled remains.

He clambered out of the tooth pile with disgust.

Some Nightmare workers seemed to be fixing the teeth and flattened tongues into bodies of Nightmares in development.

…One of the workers seemed to be a tired, middle-aged man with fairy wings and a five o’clock shadow.

Nigel headed through the nearest door he saw and was ambushed by three Ninja Knights.

They were quick to evade his Z.A.P.P.

and throw shuriken, so Nigel fittingly countered with the N.I.N.S.T.A.R.

until they were KO’ed.

He proceeded down the passage and saw a giant brain beyond the end.

He had no choice but to jump on it—a spoon pierced the brain and was heading up toward a giant monster’s maw.

“WAAAH!” He reacted quick to shoot a grapple point above another brain in a bowl, doing so in repetition before each monster could bite it.

This seemed to be a lunch room for these giants!

Nigel hit a grapple point above a tank of green liquid.

Whatever it was, it was safe to swim in, following a pipe underneath it.

Large worms swam through the substance; Nigel caught them in the W.E.T.-N.E.T..

He followed the pipe and saw where the green liquid originated: the nostrils of a scrawny, dorkish monster with a massively oversized nose.

Nigel wanted to vomit, but had to hold his breath.

There was a sickly Yellow Wisp partway down the pipe.

He absorbed it and, “DRILL!” returned to drill up against the monster’s nostrils, making it recoil as Nigel escaped the pipe’s opening.

“BLEH, GLUG!” Nigel shook the gunk off him as best he could.

He heard a platoon of guards preparing to rush in the nearby door, so Nigel rushed into an air vent.

He could hear voices echoing throughout the vent.

“It was MY turn, you insolent bag of bugs!” “You had your turn, Doll Face!

Now, it’s Oogie’s turn to boogie now!” Nigel crawled over an opening to see he was above a prison room, and two monsters were playing a game of Uno in the cell.

One of them seemed to be a large spider made of stitches and parts for dolls, with button eyes, while the other one seemed to be a big bag with eyes and a mouth.

“You couldn’t defeat that skeleton wimp!

I should go next!” the spider argued.

“Please.

You’re a failure as a Nightmare if you can’t catch a snot-nosed little kid!” the bag retorted.

“At least I try to look scary!

You couldn’t scare a cat!” “Oh, YEAH?

Well, you-” They stopped when they heard Nigel fall through the vent and land in front of their cell.

He recovered and looked up at the monsters.

“Uh…hello.” he said nervously.

“Well, well, well.

What have we here?

A little bald man, huh, ooooo, I’m really scared!” “Who are you two?” “You’re looking at the one and only Oogie Boogie Man!

And this oversized ragdoll here is Beldam.” “We’ve been trapped in this cell for ages!” Beldam yelled.

“Could you do us the favor of letting us out?” “Why would I do that?

You must be in here for a reason.” “The Nightmare King put us in here, so we must be good!

After all, he’s evil!

Let us out and we’ll help you destroy him!” “Don’t listen to them!” Nigel gasped, whipping around to see a lizard-like monster in another cell.

He was purple with six limbs and three antennas.

“I’ll help you beat him!

Let me outta here!” “Stuff it down your hole, Randall!” Oogie retorted.

“Sorry, but I’m not taking my chances with either of you.” Nigel said.

“But listen, you wouldn’t happen to have seen a girl around here, have you?

A human like me?” “Well, listen to that, Oogie.

He’s come to rescue the human in the other cell!” “Other cell?” Nigel walked over to the next cell to see, lying on the bench, was none other than, “EVA!” The redhead woke up and looked at him with a joyous expression.

“NIGEL!” She ran up to him.

“Eva, how did you get here?” “The Nightmare King kidnapped me one night and locked me in this cell.

I’ve been here ever since, listening to these two freaks!” “HEY!

We can hear you, too!” Oogie yelled.

“Hold on, Eva.

Let me get you out of here!” Nigel drew his S.H.O.O.T.E.R.

and shot the cell open as Eva walked out.

“I always knew you’d rescue me!” she exclaimed happily.

“Uhhh, yeah.” he replied, a little creeped out by her cheerful attitude.

“Anyway, Eva, you’re probably wondering where I’ve been these past few months.” “Oh, don’t worry, silly!

I know you’ve been serving in the Galactic Kids Next Door!” “You…You do?” “Uh-huh!

Your friends told me everything!

I guess they were overcome by my charming good looks.” Nigel was silent.

“Eva, are you okay?

There’s something different about you.

And your voice has changed a little.” “Really?

I hadn’t noticed.

I guess I must be happy to see you after so long!” “…I guess so.

Anyway, I need to see the Nightmare King.” “Oh, I know where he is!

Just follow me!” she said as she ran ahead.

Nigel, still confused, followed behind.

They exited into a hallway, where Eva quickly ushered Nigel into a freezer room.

It wasn’t as frigid as Glacia, so he could tolerate it.

“Eva, wait!” he called as his cousin hurried around piles of ice cream and cones.

The piles woke up and formed into monsters; very similar to the Ice Cream Beast his team fought long ago.

He threw B.O.O.M.E.R.s to splatter the beasts, and some of their severed cones would fly off and stab into spinning wheels that led upward.

Nigel could use the cones as awkward platforms and reach a second floor where a yeti monster seemed to be constructing the Ice Cream Beasts.

“OH!

A human!

Hello!

Would you like ice cream?

It’s special Glacian brand!” “Glacian brand?

…You wouldn’t happen to know Yeto, would you?” “Dunno who you mean.

I’m the only yeti that works here.

Used to deliver mail back home, but got banished from the planet for tampering with Ice King’s mail.

It’s okay.

Working here much fun!” “Well… that’s cool.” “NIGEL!” “AAH!” He was startled by his cousin from the left.

“This way!” She raced through an exit door, so he followed.

They were in a wide room full of small cars, which Eva was quick to kick.

Purple balloons with lipstick mouths inflated out of them, moving toward the Brit in attempt to suffocate him.

“Air bags?!” They must have stemmed from a fear of car crashes.

Nigel shot his S.H.O.O.T.E.R.

at their obvious bandage weak points, causing them to deflate.

However, Nigel noticed a deflated white balloon in the corner.

He used the A.B.S.O.R.B.O.

to suck in air from one of the Air Bags, transferring it to the white balloon.

It inflated with a derpy, two-toothed smile and eyes inside dark sockets.

With his A.B.S.O.R.B.O.

attached to the balloon, it floated him up a shaft.

“Good idea, Nigel!” Eva jumped to grab-hug him.

Amid their ascent, large colorful balls with huge mouths of sharp teeth were bouncing around the shaft.

“Watch out for those Attacky Sacks!” The two shifted their weight to maneuver the balloon away from the grinning balls.

They released on a safe foothold up top.

They entered a room where they had to cross hanging, rickety platforms over a garden of green spiky crystals.

“Hahahaha!” Eva happily bounced on a platform and swung it.

“Wheeeee!” “Eva, what’re you doing?!” “Oh, don’t be a workaholic, Nigel!” Eva happily jumped ahead, while some of the crystals rose out as floating masses with red eyes.

The Pulsars shot lightning to electrify the platforms, but Nigel shattered their bodies with B.O.O.M.E.R.s.

Nigel caught up with Eva in a room with three doors.

“Let’s see… which door was it?

Hmmmmm…” As Eva looked on in thought, Nigel thought he heard movement behind him.

He turned and saw nothing.

He almost wanted to ask Eva if she really knew where she was going… but he felt a chill down his shoulder as though something were right behind him.

A pair of beady eyes and gaping mouth opened—Nigel barely jumped away in time and threw a B.O.O.M.E.R.

against the Inviso ghost.

“WEEEEIIIIIIRD!” The ghost retreated, dropping out a Clear Wisp.

“Oh, it was this one!” Eva opened the left door.

“Come, Nigel!” The following corridor had large hands made of twigs feeling around for intruders.

“Eva, stay close to me.” Nigel hugged her.

“Cloak!” He turned them both invisible.

They carefully crept around the Jano Arms—”Ow, Eva, don’t stub my foot!” His cousin’s awkward walking nearly got them caught.

The Color Power wore off in time for them to make it past.

“Eva, how do you even know your way around here so well?” Nigel asked.

“Uhhh, girl’s intuition!

Oh, look, here we are!

The Nightmare King is just through this door!” she said as they stopped in front of a door, which read Target Practice.

“I’ll just wait out here.

Good luck!” she giggled.

Nigel opened the door and walked into a dark room.

As he walked a few feet in, the door immediately shut behind him.

He was ambushed by a pogo stick with a face, a walking bow and arrow with a face, and a stick-like figure made of spears.

“NYAR!

The human has finally arrived, nyar!

Shoot arrows at him will I, nyar!” sang the bow.

“Enough of your singing, Bowyer!

Let’s just do it quick!” replied the spear monster.

“Who the heck are you guys?” Nigel asked.

“Mack.” replied the pogo stick.

“Bowyer, nyar!” replied the bow.

“Yaridovich.” replied the spears.

“We are the Nightmare King’s most loyal henchmen.” “And you are trespassing in his factory, nya!

So destroy you, we wiiill!” Bowyer took out some arrows and began firing at the Brit, but he quickly evaded.

He took out his blaster and started shooting Yaridovich, but he blocked with some spears.

He looked to see Mack was trying to bounce on him.

Seeing an opportunity, he grabbed onto the pogo monster and used him to bounce around.

He made his way over to Yaridovich and was able to separate his parts by landing on him.

Bowyer fired another arrow, but Nigel quickly jumped off and let the arrow hit Mack, freezing him stiff.

“So, now it’s just me, nyar.

Stop you, I will.” Bowyer fired more arrows at Nigel.

The Brit ran and avoided every shot.

He leaped into the air and landed behind Bowyer, where he shot his string and broke it.

Bowyer was silenced when Nigel jumped and kicked him in the face, knocking him out.

Nigel was then about to head back out, but stopped when he saw a picture on a nearby desk.

Out of curiosity, he walked over to see it was a picture of a girl with black hair in pigtails, a black shirt, and red backpack.

“Numbuh 23?” Nigel recognized the girl from Sector K.

“But why…” This question weighing on him, Nigel walked out of the room and found Eva standing a few feet away.

“EVA!

That wasn’t it at all!

That was a trap!” “It was?

Oopsie!

Silly me!

I must have miscalculated!” Nigel walked over and looked at her suspiciously.

“Eva, there is something DEFINITELY wrong with you!” “What?

I’m just acting like I always do!

Always so cheerful!” Nigel looked closer and saw something even more strange.

“Eva… since when do you have blue eyes?” “Uhhh, since I got new contacts?” “…You’re not Eva!” The girl smirked.

“So, you finally figured it out!

I must say, it was a bit shorter than last time!” “Last time?

What are you talking about?” “Oh, you don’t remember me?

I’m someone you know very well, actually!

We had such great times together in our short time hanging out!” “Wha… Who are you?” “Are you suuure you don’t remember?

Take a long time thinking about it.

I’m sure you’ll figure out eventually!” He thought for a moment.

“Fanny?” “Wha—NO!

NO!

Ugh, you’re hopeless!

Fine.

Maybe THIS will help.” With that, she was engulfed by a puff of dark smoke, and she revealed herself to be a girl with brown ponytailed hair, a white top, pink sarong, and matching sandals.

(End song.) “KATIE?!” Nigel gawked.

Indeed, it was the very same Katie from Nigel’s utopia dream.

“Oh, you DO remember me!

How sweet!” “What are you doing here?

I thought you were just a dream from Chester’s Happy Headband.” “You mean the NIGHTMARE KING’S Happy Headband!

He’s the one that created it!

Not that idiot, Chester!

Do you really think he would have the brains to create a device that brings kids into their own dream world?” “Good point.” “The Nightmare King created the headband and lent it to Chester, who failed to pay up his 5,000 dollars, so he took it back.

Once he had it back, he examined the dream data it picked up from your dream and found me in there!

So, he downloaded me from the headband and VOILA!

Katie lives!” “Impressive.” “Isn’t it?

Anyhoo, back to the main subject: I’m still mad at you for what you did back in your dream, and now it’s time I get my revenge!” Katie paced around him.

“Pfft!

I can take you!” “Oh, really?

The Nightmare King’s lent me some of his power, so that I could see your greatest fears!

I know what you’re afraid of, Nigel, and I can use those fears against you.” She walked up to and looked him in the eye.

Nigel gave a fearful expression.

“R-Really?” Katie smirked.

“REALLY!” She leapt backward and giant fly wings sprouted from her back.

She rose up into the air as her face became that of a fly’s.

Nigel backed up in fear.

“Aw, what’s wrong?

Afraid of a little horsefly?” “You are NOT a little horsefly!” “Yeah, I guess so.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have THIS!” She drew out two big needles.

That was another nightmare Chester exposed him to!

“Don’t worry, Nigel.

This won’t hurt a BIT!” In an instant, she zoomed down, attempting to stab him with the needles, but he avoided.

He tried firing his blaster at Katie, but she was as agile as a regular-sized fly.

She shot blasts of green liquid from the needle, making Nigel jump and leap off the walls.

He Wall Jumped all the way up to Katie and hopped onto her.

Once on, he ripped her wings off, making her drop.

She recovered shortly after and started to swing the needles at Nigel like swords.

He swiftly dodged every shot and fought back with his blaster.

He successfully shot her in the eye, making her cover it.

With her guard down, he kicked the needles out of her hands and kicked her to the wall.

In an instant, her fly face reverted back to her real face.

“Well, look at that, Katie!

Looks like I faced my fears!” “SCARFIES!” Katie called.

A swarm of floating, orange balls with wings and happy faces appeared.

“Oh, please!

Like those things could scare me!” The Scarfies turned red and grew sharp teeth and had one eye.

“Well, now they kind of do, but I can still take them!” Nigel began shooting the Scarfies with his blaster, but it seemed that with every Scarfy he shot, another one appeared.

He soon felt that there was no way out of this, but that feeling vanished when he saw one of the Scarfies was dark-purple.

“Yes!

One with a Wisp!” “NO!

Don’t shoot-” Katie was too late as Nigel shot the purple Scarfy, making all the others cower and retreat, drawing confusion out of Nigel.

He looked to where he shot the purple Scarfy and saw a Wisp spawning back together.

He instantly recognized it as one of the Wisps from Dimentia’s dungeon.

The Wisp looked at him and began snarling.

Nigel screamed as the Wisp roared and shot to him with its mouth wide open.

But when he opened his eyes, he saw that he wasn’t eaten and that the Wisp must’ve flown into his body.

Nigel was then left wondering what would happen now, while Katie looked worried.

“Eeeeeeegh!” A searing pain coursed inside him.

He looked to see some dark purple substance was crawling up his skin from his right hand.

He tried to pull the substance off, but failed.

As the substance engulfed his skin, he saw a vision of him, Lizzie, and Eva at Sector J.

“And what is wrong with dating Nigel Uno?” “Nothing, if you like bald workaholics who wear Rainbow Monkey underwear!

It’s, like, always sticking out of his shorts and stuff!” Seeing this made Nigel a little angry, and the substance began covering him faster as he saw another vision: one of his friends making fun of his rear.

“Come on, guys.

I just wanna put this whole thing behind me.” “Well, you got enough room for it back there!” “Urgh!

What… kind of… Wisp… is this?” he grunted, still trying to force it off.

“You and your team are ordered to stay away from this cake mission!

Is that clear?” “But-” “Is that clear?!” With a bite on his lip, Nigel complied.

“Yes.” Nigel screamed as the dark substance covered his entire body.

Nigel was transformed into a monster with dark purple armor and skin, and vicious, glowing eyes.

Katie immediately got up and ran down the hall, just in time for Sir Kibbles to appear and surround Nigel.

Nigel opened his large mouth to reveal sharp teeth.

He ran around and started to grab the soldiers in his mouth, shaking them around before throwing them against the wall.

He also shot dark lasers at the soldiers, making them explode into dust.

Once they were all gone, the dark operative huffed in anger.

The purple substance dissolved and the Wisp flew out of his body.

Nigel was breathing heavily.

“Huff…” Trying to cool his mind of the negative thoughts, he pressed forward.

(Play “Music Madness” from Donkey Kong Returns.) The corridor transitioned into a wide, but dark chamber where Nigel had to cross a giant trampoline.

More of the sharp-toothed Attacky Sacks were bouncing around it.

Nigel relied on the B.U.B.B.O.U.N.C.E.’s popping force to repel them.

From the end of the trampoline, Nigel grabbed onto a white rope… which was actually part of an enormous harp!

A gargantuan ghost with a smiling opera mask was playing the harp.

Nigel had to climb and jump between ropes while evading its fingers.

Eventually, he could jump to a safe foothold.

A walkway led toward a chubby, rubber, green dragon with big red lips.

The Don Bongo stomped toward Nigel, intending to bounce him off the walkway with its belly.

Nigel threw three B.O.O.M.E.R.s at its lips, causing them to swell blue and POP.

The resulting sight was grotesque until Don Bongo fell.

The next portion of the darkness had similar balloons of green and yellow-bellied dinos; Mr.

Patches.

Nigel needed to grapple and swing them via the corks between their legs.

He landed at the base of a long, snaky xylophone, but was anticipating the pair of hands holding drumsticks to quickly smash him.

So first, he followed the stairs beneath the xylophone and found a capsule with a Speed Wisp.

He returned above and, “SPEED!” zoomed across the xylophone, outrunning the drumsticks.

He then had to Home Attack a sequence of balloons; the last balloon, instead of making a popping sound, said, “Oh yeah, Mr.

Krabs!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!” Nigel needed to shield his ears for a moment.

Beyond that, he entered a room to see walking hammers with eyes hitting small weapons on treadmills.

In the center of the large room was a chicken in a giant robot stomping on strange colorful rocks in a bucket, turning them to dust.

The dust spilled out of a faucet and onto the small weapons, giving them color and life.

“Is that material what makes Nightmares?” Nigel crossed the room’s walkway and found a door labeled Hall of Fear.

This hall had several doors lined up along it with peoples’ names labeled on.

He looked to see one of the doors was labeled Hoagie P.

Gilligan Jr.

and went inside.

He ended up in what looked like the Amish Sector and saw Hoagie lying on the ground.

Hoagie woke up and looked around.

“What?

Where am I?” he asked.

“Oh no!

Sector A!

No technology!

NOOOOO!” Nigel quickly ran out.

He then walked into a room labeled Kuki Sanban and saw his Japanese friend crying in the middle of a gloomy town where Rainbow Monkeys were being burned in a fire.

“Poor Rainbow Monkeys!

Why does this have to happen?” Not wanting to see her cry more, Nigel left.

He went into the room labeled Wallabee Beatles to find the blonde Aussie playing tea party with Rainbow Monkeys.

“Would you like some more tea?” Wally drank some imaginary tea and said, “Eh, this isn’t TOO bad!” Soon after, Kuki came in, holding Ace’s hand.

“Hey, Wally!

Guess what?

Me and Ace are going out!” “NOOOOOOOOO!” Nigel left and looked to see one with Abby’s name.

Curious to what she might be afraid of, he went inside to find his friend standing in front of a pile of candy with her mouth agape.

“MAN, THAT’S A LOT OF CANDY!” she exclaimed.

The choco-skinned girl dove into the candy and started eating.

Her excitement was cut short as she fully tasted it.

“Oh no… it’s… SUGAR-FREE!

AHHHHHH!” Nigel instantly left and moved on to the next one, which was Fanny’s.

He looked inside to see Fanny was in a field, surrounded by boys.

“Come on, Fanny!

Come roll in the mud with us!” one said.

“Yeah, and eat bugs!” In a flash of light, Fanny found herself forcibly doing that.

Nigel saw Rachel’s name labeled on one and looked inside.

He was in a helicopter and saw Rachel about to skydive, with Patton standing by her.

“Patton, I’m not so sure about this…” “Nonsense, Rach!

You can do it!

Good luck!” Patton pushed her off the edge, and Rachel began screaming as she fell from the sky.

She tried to activate the parachute, but an anvil came out instead.

Rachel’s screaming silenced when she hit the ground.

“RACHEL!” Nigel shouted.

“Ugh…” Nigel left and moved on to the next door.

He ignored Sonya’s door, already knowing what to expect, and instead went into Harvey’s door.

Once in, he saw the germ freak standing in the middle of the living room of his treehouse, only they were about the size of ants.

“W-Where am I?” Harvey asked himself.

“How did I get so tiny?” Just then, they could hear stomping.

They looked to see Sonya, Paddy, and Lee walking toward Harvey.

“HEY, GUYS!

DOWN HERE!” The three looked down to see their little friend.

“Harvey?

How did you get so small?” Sonya asked.

“I don’t know!

I went to sleep and woke up like this!

You guys gotta take me to my sister!” The three exchanged glances and looked back down at him.

“We’ve got a better idea.” Sonya replied.

“W-What are you-” Harvey stopped when he saw Sonya raise her shoe, and screamed as her shoe came down.

Closing his eyes to the sight, Nigel walked out of the room.

He walked into the next, which belonged to Eva, and found his cousin waking up from her bed, only her face was hideously misshapen and ugly.

Eva looked into her dresser mirror and gasped.

“AHHHHHHHHH!” Grossed out himself, Nigel walked out.

The next room read Kade Jackson, who Nigel remembered as Numbuh 11.0.

There, he found 11.0 watching Eva make out with Numbuh 30c.

“Oh, Kenny.

You’re SO handsome and you’re SO much sweeter than Kade!” “Oh, stop!

Your embarrassing him!” With that, they made out some more, with Kade looking like he was going into mental breakdown.

Nigel walked out of the room and finally decided, “That’s it, no more nightmares.” However, he couldn’t resist when he saw the next door: “‘Rattlesnake Jake’?

This should be good!” He walked into Jake’s nightmare and found the snake curled up in the middle of a bird’s nest.

“Ugh… where am I?” he asked, looking around.

He looked on in fear to see the eggs in the nest beginning to hatch and big baby birds came out.

“No!

Get away from me!

NOOOOO!” Nigel instantly walked out and burst into laughter.

“Oh, MAN!

Who would’ve expected THAT, haha!

Okay, let’s move on!” Finally, he made it to the end and found double-doors.

Above, he saw the label Nightmare King’s Throne.

“Well, here we are.

It’s time to get some answers.” He went in.
