The wooden box closed with a soft click.

Silence followed.

Asha remained kneeling beside the bed for several seconds while the storm outside roared against the small house like an endless living thing.Full novel: Killer of Ice — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The wind screamed through cracks in the walls.

Snow hammered the roof.

The weak oil lamp flickered violently again, throwing unstable shadows across the room.

Asha slowly stood.

Her movements felt heavier now.

Not because she was tired— because the decision had finally become real.

Her eyes drifted one last time across the room.

The small wooden table.

The scattered photographs of stars she had carefully reorganized.

The chair beside the lamp.

The frozen window overlooking the sleeping village.

Everything suddenly looked distant.

Like a memory already beginning to fade.

Asha inhaled slowly.

Cold air filled her lungs despite the weak warmth still trapped inside the house.

Then she reached for her coat.

The heavy winter fabric hung near the wall beside the door.

She pulled it around herself carefully, fastening each layer in silence.

Gloves.

Scarf.

Boots.

Every movement carried the strange calm of someone trying not to think too much before leaving everything behind.

Outside, the storm intensified again.

The entire house groaned softly beneath the pressure of wind and snow.

Asha lowered her eyes briefly.

Then whispered to herself, “…This is better.” Whether she truly believed those words or not— her face did not reveal it.

She walked slowly toward the door.

The wooden floor creaked beneath her boots.

Step.

Step.

Step.

The closer she came to the exit, the louder the storm sounded beyond it.

Like the frozen world itself was waiting outside.

Asha stopped in front of the door.

Her hand hovered near the handle for a moment.

Just one moment.

Behind her remained warmth.

Light.

Memories.

Ahead of her— only snow.

Only uncertainty.

Only the endless white world beyond the village.

The wind slammed against the door hard enough to shake it violently.

Asha closed her eyes briefly.

Then tightened her grip.

And opened it.

The blizzard exploded into the room instantly.

Freezing wind crashed against her body while snow burst through the doorway in violent spirals.

The oil lamp flickered wildly behind her.

The cold struck like knives against exposed skin.

But Asha did not step back.

Not even once.

Her dark eyes lifted toward the storm stretching endlessly before her.

The village outside was barely visible now beneath the heavy snowfall.

Distant lights glowed weakly between snow-covered houses before disappearing again behind walls of white.

No voices.

No people.

Only the storm.

Asha pulled her coat tighter around herself.

Then stepped forward into the snow.

The wind immediately swallowed her figure.

Her boots sank deeply into the frozen ground while snow whipped violently across her face and shoulders.

Still— she kept walking.

One step.

Then another.

The storm erased her tracks almost instantly behind her.

Within seconds, the house itself had already begun fading into the white darkness behind her.

Asha never looked back.

The blizzard grew stronger the farther she walked.

Soon even the lights of the village disappeared completely.

Only endless snow remained.

And the lone figure moving deeper into it.

Smaller.

Farther.

Until finally— Asha vanished into the endless white.
