Metz led 1–0.
The reserve side increased the pressure after the restart.
Their midfielders positioned themselves closer to Rafael. Whenever a pass travelled toward him, the centre-back supplied contact from behind while another player blocked the route back into midfield.
Rafael received near the centre circle and felt pressure against his left shoulder.
The simple return had disappeared.
He attempted to roll across the defender and carry the ball into the open side. The centre-back caught him partly from behind and used the contact to force him away from possession.
The whistle remained silent.
It could have been given. The challenge had simply not been obvious enough for the academy official to stop the exercise.
A reserve midfielder collected the loose ball and attacked the space Rafael had left.
Metz recovered before the move reached their penalty area, but the older side had recognised how the U19s were using him.
Another forward pass arrived minutes later.
Rafael tried to control it before the defender could settle against him. His first touch travelled too far, allowing a reserve player to step in front and take possession.
That mistake had nothing to do with strength or an overlooked foul.
He had rushed because he expected contact.
The next opportunity came through the left. Rafael shifted across to meet the pass and saw a teammate approaching through the middle. He attempted the return ball.
A reserve midfielder had already read the option.
The pass struck the man’s foot and bounced away.
Yanis had been available behind him, but Rafael had committed to the first route he saw.
Experience made both mistakes easier to identify. It did not erase them from the match.
The reserve side equalised four minutes before halftime.
Metz pressed them toward the left touchline and committed an extra midfielder to the trap. The reserve full-back played backwards rather than forcing his way through.
One pass travelled across the defence.
The next found the opposite winger in open space.
Metz’s left-back rushed forward, leaving a gap between himself and the nearest centre-back. The winger carried the ball inside and released the overlapping runner.
A low delivery crossed the penalty area.
The reserve striker arrived between both centre-backs and finished with one touch.
One-all.
The scorer collected the ball and returned it for the restart.
The remaining minutes passed without another chance. The whistle ended the half, and both groups returned to their benches.
Rafael drank before opening the System.

The count was correct.
He dismissed the panel.
The U19 coach crouched in front of the group with the tactics board resting against one knee.
"When the first pass into Morales is blocked, stop forcing it," he said. "Use the wide player and make them turn."
His marker traced the movement that had produced their goal.
"That worked because the ball left Rafael before the defender settled. The run came afterward."
He moved the marker into their defensive half.
"When an attack breaks down, our midfield stays connected to the back line. Their equaliser came because three of you chased the same side and nobody protected the switch."
The coach stood.
"Release it sooner. Stay compact."
The break ended.
The reserve side began the second half with the ball and pushed both full-backs higher. Their centre-backs separated across the width of the pitch, forcing Rafael to choose which one to pressure.
He angled his run toward the left.
The ball moved right.
Yanis stepped forward, but the reserve full-back played around him with a first-time pass. Metz were retreating again within seconds.
Rafael stopped presenting himself for every clearance or hurried forward ball.
Chasing the mission count would only place him beneath a defender when receiving served no purpose.
He waited until Metz had enough support around possession.
A midfielder regained the ball near halfway and looked forward.
Rafael moved to meet the pass, placing himself between the centre-back and its path.
The ball reached him as the defender closed from behind. Rafael redirected it toward the left with one touch, sending possession away before the man could establish his weight.
The contact arrived after the pass had gone.
His teammate collected the layoff and switched play.
Four.
The next aerial ball showed how far he remained from competing physically.
Rafael waited beneath the dropping pass.
The centre-back arrived from behind and bumped him between the shoulder blades just before the ball reached his chest. It was not enough to send him down, but it shifted him away from the landing point.
Rafael expected the whistle.
None came.
The defender collected the loose ball and passed it away.
The challenge had been early. In a competitive match, Rafael would have appealed. In a closed exercise, the official had decided the contact was not worth stopping.
His additional Strength point had helped him remain upright. It had not helped him reach a ball from which he had already been moved.
Metz spent another stretch without possession. Their defenders blocked one shot, and the goalkeeper claimed a cross before the reserve striker could reach it.
When the U19s finally played out, Yanis carried the ball beyond halfway.
Rafael moved toward him with the centre-back close behind.
Yanis’s pass came hard into his feet.
Rafael stepped across the defender’s path as the ball arrived. The centre-back struck his side, but Rafael had already placed himself between the man and possession.
He controlled it beneath his right foot.
A reserve midfielder approached to block the return.
Rafael held possession until the second man committed, then passed diagonally back to Yanis.
The winger was forced sideways and recycled the ball into midfield.
The action created no chance.
Play continued without a notification.
Rafael knew the fifth pass had counted.
The reserve side scored the winner seven minutes later.
Metz attempted to build from the back after clearing a cross. Their midfielder received outside the penalty area but was challenged before he could release the ball.
Possession rolled loose.
A reserve player collected it and passed forward immediately.
Metz’s defenders had already begun moving out. The attacker held his run level with the nearest centre-back before entering the box.
He controlled near the penalty spot and finished low into the left corner.
Two-one.
More than ten minutes remained, but the older side no longer needed to force the match.
They kept possession across midfield and used the full width of the pitch. Whenever Metz pressed one side, the ball returned through defence and moved away.
Rafael chose his runs carefully, waiting for a mistake instead of following passes he could not reach.
One finally came when the reserve right-back played into a crowded midfield.
Metz intercepted and released Yanis.
Rafael ran between the centre-backs.
The winger’s early cross curved toward the space inside the penalty area. Rafael reached the landing point with the nearest defender beside him.
As they prepared to jump, the centre-back placed a forearm across Rafael’s ribs and kept it there for a fraction too long.
The pressure prevented Rafael from attacking the centre of the ball.
The defender released him as he headed clear.
Again, the academy official allowed play to continue.
Rafael looked toward him but did not appeal. Older defenders did not always overpower strikers through obvious challenges. Sometimes they used just enough contact to affect the action and trusted the referee to miss the rest.
Metz recovered the clearance but could not create another opening. The reserve players controlled the final minutes through secure passes and simple movement.
The whistle ended the match at 2–1.
Rafael placed both hands on his hips and drew in a long breath. His shirt clung to his back, while the muscles around his waist and shoulders carried the ache of repeated contact.
Seventy minutes had exposed more than a full match against players his own age.
Blue light appeared.

Rafael closed the panel.
The coaches called both groups together near the touchline. He joined his teammates while the reserve coach completed a brief review and dismissed his players for recovery.
The U19s remained.
"We competed because we kept our shape and used the ball properly in moments," their coach said. "We lost because they recognised our routes, removed them and punished the mistakes that followed."
His gaze found Rafael.
"Your goal was good. Release, move and arrive in the box. Once they blocked the return pass, you became easier to contain."
"I held it too long," Rafael said.
"Twice. You also forced one through the middle when the wide pass was available."
"I stayed with the first option."
The coach nodded.
Recognising the first pass did not make it the correct one. Rafael had known that for years and still made the mistake.
The coach addressed the entire squad again.
"This was preparation. Remember the speed. Against strong opposition, the space closes before you think you have finished using it."
He paused.
"The quarterfinal draw was confirmed this afternoon."
Several players straightened.
"We travel to RC Lens a week on Sunday."
The conversations stopped.
"Group A winners," the coach continued. "Recovery plans are inside. We begin preparing for them on Monday."
He dismissed the team.
The name followed the players toward the changing rooms. Some discussed the journey north, while others spoke about the Lens players they had faced in previous academy competitions.
Rafael remained quiet.
The reserve match had shown what a stronger opponent could do to Metz. Lens would bring similar speed and physical pressure with their season at stake.
Inside, he showered and changed while the discussion continued around him. Players gradually collected their bags and left for recovery meals or treatment.
Once Rafael had a moment alone, he opened the waiting notification.

[Hold-Up Play]
[Type: Passive Skill]
[Effect: Improves control with his back to goal.]

[CLAIM REWARDS]
Rafael read the limitation before claiming them.
The System had not given him the body of a senior striker. It had not removed the need to position himself properly, recognise pressure or select the correct pass.
It would only make his younger body slightly more reliable when attempting something his older mind already understood.
He claimed the rewards.

The light faded.
Rafael zipped his bag and stood. Pain tightened across his ribs where the defender’s forearm had caught him beneath the final cross.
He shifted the strap onto his other shoulder and left the changing room.
The quarterfinal notice had been pinned beside the door.
RC Lens.
Rafael stopped in front of it.
The ache in his ribs had not faded.
