“It hurts so much.”

The words echoed through the ruined chamber softer than the screaming alarms overhead.

But somehow they hit harder.Full novel: LEVELING VOID — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Bianca stood frozen several feet away from Subject Twelve while the entire facility shook around them.

The boy trembled violently.

Not from rage anymore.

Pain.

Pure unbearable pain.

Blood dripped steadily from his nose onto the cracked concrete floor.

The black veins crawling beneath his skin pulsed faster with every passing second.

Like his body was tearing itself apart from the inside.

Bianca’s heart pounded painfully.

She had no plan.

Absolutely none.

Which honestly tracked with most of her life decisions.

The system flickered wildly across her vision.

[ Critical Situation Detected ]

[ Host Survival Probability: 4% ]

“Oh wow,” Bianca whispered weakly.

“Single digits now.”

Nobody appreciated her humor.

Rude.

Subject Twelve suddenly staggered sideways clutching his head.

A distorted scream escaped his throat.

The chamber lights exploded again.

Children cried out.

Several collapsed covering their ears.

The pressure flooding the room became almost unbearable.

Even Bianca’s teeth hurt.

Volkov stepped forward immediately.

“Restrain him now.”

The remaining guards hesitated.

Reasonable.

Subject Twelve looked terrifying now.

Black cracks spread visibly beneath his skin like something burning through him from the inside.

One guard finally moved anyway.

Probably because disobeying Volkov seemed even scarier.

Bad choice.

The second the soldier approached—

Subject Twelve snapped.

The floor shattered beneath him.

He moved so fast Bianca barely processed motion before the guard slammed violently into the far wall.

The rifle clattered uselessly across the floor.

Children screamed again.

Maya grabbed Bianca’s arm desperately.

“We need to RUN!”

Bianca almost agreed.

Almost.

Then she looked back toward Subject Twelve.

Toward the blood.

The shaking.

The fear hidden beneath all the violence.

And suddenly— she remembered the sky.

The parachute twisting uselessly above her.

That horrible moment when death became real.

The helplessness.

The panic.

Nobody helping.

Nobody reaching back.

Bianca swallowed hard.

Then did something objectively stupid.

Again.

“Hey!”

The word echoed sharply across the chamber.

Everyone froze.

Including Subject Twelve.

Bianca immediately regretted having functioning vocal cords.

Too late now.

The boy’s black eyes locked directly onto her.

Pressure slammed through the room instantly.

Bianca felt it physically.

Like standing too close to a collapsing building.

The system flashed warnings rapidly.

[ Extreme Threat Focused On Host ]

“Yeah,” Bianca muttered nervously.

“Not ideal.”

Volkov’s voice cut through the tension instantly.

“Move away from him.”

Bianca ignored her.

Subject Twelve stared silently.

His breathing sounded ragged now.

Painfully uneven.

Bianca slowly raised her empty hands.

“Okay,” she said carefully.

“I know this looks bad.”

Several guards looked deeply offended by that understatement.

“But maybe we can all calm down before the underground murder bunker collapses on us?”

Silence.

Then surprisingly—

Subject Twelve laughed weakly.

Something smaller.

Almost human.

Bianca blinked.

“…did I just accidentally tell a joke?”

The boy swayed slightly where he stood.

Blood continued dripping from his mouth now.

“You’re weird,” he rasped.

Bianca pointed weakly.

“Honestly? Fair.”

Maya looked absolutely horrified behind her.

Volkov looked worse.

Not angry.

Calculating.

Like Bianca had suddenly become unpredictable.

That probably wasn’t good.

The system flickered softly.

[ Social Adaptation Triggered ]

[ Unique Behavioral Response Detected ]

Bianca had absolutely no idea what that meant.

Subject Twelve suddenly gripped his own head harder.

A strangled scream escaped him.

The black veins across his skin pulsed violently.

Then Bianca saw it.

For half a second— the air around him distorted strangely.

Like invisible pressure bending reality itself.

The walls cracked instantly.

Lights burst overhead.

Several children screamed as the floor trembled again.

Volkov’s expression darkened immediately.

“The serum is destabilizing.”

Bianca looked toward her sharply.

“The WHAT?”

No answer.

Very rude.

Subject Twelve dropped to one knee breathing heavily now.

The chamber shook harder.

Chunks of concrete crashed from above.

Bianca realized the horrifying truth immediately.

He wasn’t destroying the facility on purpose anymore.

He literally couldn’t control whatever they turned him into.

Maya whispered shakily behind Bianca:

“He’s going critical.”

Bianca turned.

“He’s going WHAT?”

Before Maya could answer—

Subject Twelve screamed.

The sound ripped through the chamber violently.

Every piece of glass exploded.

Children covered their ears crying.

A shockwave blasted outward hard enough to throw Bianca backward across the floor.

Pain exploded through her shoulder as she crashed into broken concrete.

Her vision blurred briefly.

The system flashed rapidly.

[ Host Injured ]

[ Minor Fracture Detected ]

“Oh come ON,” Bianca groaned painfully.

Was surviving always this exhausting?

Across the chamber, Subject Twelve staggered upright again.

The black veins now covered half his body completely.

His empty eyes flickered strangely.

Inhumanly.

Like darkness moved behind them.

Volkov stepped forward slowly.

For the first time— she actually looked concerned.

Not for herself.

For the facility.

Interesting priorities.

“Subject Twelve,” she said calmly, “listen carefully.”

The boy laughed weakly.

Blood stained his teeth red.

“You never listened to me.”

Then the chamber ceiling cracked loudly overhead.

Everyone froze.

A massive fracture spread across the concrete.

Bianca’s pulse spiked instantly.

That looked extremely unsafe.

The mechanical voice echoed again through the facility:

CORE INSTABILITY DETECTED.

REACTOR BREACH RISK ELEVATED.

Bianca blinked.

“…there’s a reactor here?!”

Maya stared at her.

“You didn’t know?”

“DO I LOOK INFORMED?”

Fair point honestly.

Somewhere deeper in the facility— something exploded.

The lights flickered dangerously.

Smoke poured slowly through vents overhead.

Panic spread completely now.

Children cried openly.

Guards shouted conflicting orders.

The facility was dying around them.

And right in the center of it— stood the broken boy causing all of it.

Bianca forced herself back onto her feet despite the pain screaming through her shoulder.

Subject Twelve noticed immediately.

“…why are you still standing?”

Bianca dusted concrete off herself weakly.

“Unfortunately I have terrible survival instincts.”

Another weak laugh escaped him.

Then suddenly his expression twisted in agony again.

He doubled over violently.

The black veins spread higher across his throat.

Bianca noticed tears falling silently down his face now.

God.

He was still just a kid.

A dangerous horrifying unstable kid— but still a kid.

Something inside Bianca twisted painfully.

The same feeling she got seeing the terrified children in this place.

Anger.

Cold anger.

Not at Subject Twelve.

At the people who did this.

The system flickered softly again.

[ Emotional State Altered ]

[ New Behavioral Pattern Recorded ]

Bianca ignored it.

Volkov slowly approached Subject Twelve again.

Carefully now.

Like approaching a wounded animal.

“You cannot survive this condition,” she said calmly.

The boy’s breathing shook violently.

“I know.”

“Then stop resisting.”

Silence.

Then Subject Twelve slowly looked up.

His empty black eyes drifted across the chamber.

Toward the terrified children.

Toward the guards.

Toward Bianca.

“…if I stop,” he whispered, “they’ll do this again.”

The room fell silent.

Even Volkov didn’t answer immediately.

Because everyone knew he was right.

Bianca clenched her fists slowly.

Something cold settled in her chest.

Hatred.

Not fear anymore.

Not panic.

Hatred.

For this place.

For what it turned children into.

For the way everyone here talked about suffering like it was normal.

The system suddenly flickered harder than before.

[ Host Mental State Intensifying ]

[ Adaptive Response Accelerating ]

A strange pressure spread through Bianca’s mind.

Sharp.

Cold.

The world around her suddenly felt clearer somehow.

More focused.

Details sharpened.

Heartbeats.

Movement.

Breathing.

Bianca blinked rapidly.

“…okay that’s definitely new.”

Then Subject Twelve looked directly at her again.

And quietly asked:

“Will you run if I open the way?”

Bianca froze.

The chamber trembled violently around them.

Smoke filled the air.

Sirens screamed overhead.

Children cried in the background.

And somehow— in the middle of all that chaos— the broken monster in front of her was offering to save them.

Bianca swallowed hard.

Then answered honestly.

“…not without the others.”
