“…not without the others.”

For a moment—

Subject Twelve simply stared at Bianca.Full novel: LEVELING VOID — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Like he genuinely didn’t understand the sentence.

The chamber groaned violently around them.

Concrete cracked overhead.

Smoke filled the air.

Emergency alarms screamed endlessly.

But the boy’s attention stayed fixed on her.

“You’re stupid,” he whispered hoarsely.

Bianca sighed.

“Yeah yeah, I’ve been informed.”

Behind her, Maya looked seconds away from passing out from stress.

“We need to GO!”

“She’s right,” one of the older boys shouted from near the wall.

“The reactor’s going critical, and will explode any moment!”

Another violent tremor shook the chamber.

Part of the ceiling collapsed near the center of the room.

Children screamed and scattered.

Volkov moved instantly, pulling two younger children away before debris crushed them.

Bianca noticed.

Again.

The woman was a monster.

But not a simple one.

That somehow made everything worse.

Subject Twelve slowly stood upright again despite his trembling body.

The black veins covering him spread higher across his neck now.

Cracks.

Like his body was splitting apart from inside.

Bianca swallowed hard.

“How long until he explodes?” she whispered toward Maya.

Maya looked horrified.

“You don’t survive that stage.”

Wonderful.

Absolutely wonderful.

The system flickered sharply.

[ Emergency Objective Updated ]

[ Escape The Facility ]

[ Optional Objective ]

Destroy Red Room Data Archives.

Reward: ????

Bianca blinked.

“…okay that sounds important.”

Maya stared.

“What?”

“Still talking to myself. Very healthy coping mechanism.”

The facility shook again.

Somewhere deeper underground— something exploded violently.

The lights dimmed.

For half a second, the entire chamber plunged into darkness.

Then emergency power kicked back in weakly.

Red light flooded the room again.

Everything looked like hell.

Blood.

Smoke.

Terrified children.

And in the center of it— a dying experiment trying not to become a bomb.

Subject Twelve suddenly staggered violently.

His breathing turned ragged.

Black liquid dripped slowly from his nose now.

Volkov noticed immediately.

“His nervous system is collapsing.”

Bianca snapped toward her.

“You say that way too casually!”

Volkov ignored her.

Of course she did.

The woman looked toward the remaining guards.

“Prepare extraction.”

Several children immediately panicked harder.

“No!”

“They’ll leave us!”

“Please!”

Bianca’s stomach twisted painfully.

Volkov’s cold gaze swept across the room.

“Priority personnel only.”

Silence.

Heavy silence.

Then realization spread through the children all at once.

They weren’t being evacuated.

They were being abandoned.

Maya grabbed Bianca’s sleeve so hard it hurt.

“She’s leaving us here.”

Bianca stared at Volkov in disbelief.

“You can’t seriously be planning to leave CHILDREN inside a collapsing underground death bunker.”

Volkov finally looked directly at Bianca.

Her expression remained perfectly calm.

“The facility cannot be allowed exposure.”

Bianca blinked slowly.

Then laughed once.

Not because anything was funny.

“Oh,” Bianca whispered, “you’re actually insane.”

The room froze.

Even the guards looked uncomfortable.

Volkov stepped toward Bianca slowly.

Dangerously calm.

“Careful.”

Bianca didn’t back down this time.

Maybe she should’ve.

Probably.

But watching terrified children realize they’d been discarded like broken tools did something ugly to her chest.

“No,” Bianca snapped, “YOU be careful.”

Several heads turned instantly.

Maya looked ready to die from secondhand fear.

Volkov’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Bianca stepped forward anyway.

“Do you even hear yourself?” Bianca demanded.

“They’re kids!”

“They are assets.”

The answer came instantly.

Without hesitation.

Without guilt.

Something inside Bianca went cold.

Subject Twelve suddenly laughed weakly nearby.

“See?” he rasped painfully.

“Told you…”

Then he doubled over coughing violently.

The chamber trembled harder.

Cracks raced along the walls now.

The facility was running out of time.

The system flickered rapidly.

[ Host Emotional State Escalating ]

[ Adaptive Response Surging ]

A strange pressure spread behind Bianca’s eyes.

Sharp.

Cold.

Painful.

She ignored it.

Mostly because she had larger problems currently happening.

Like evil underground murder scientists.

Bianca pointed directly at Volkov.

“You made him like this.”

Volkov’s expression didn’t change.

“He survived longer than expected.”

Bianca stared at her.

Actually stared.

Trying to figure out how someone could sound so detached while discussing human suffering.

And then she realized something terrifying.

Volkov genuinely believed she was right.

That was the worst part.

The woman wasn’t cruel for fun.

She believed suffering created strength.

Which meant she’d never stop.

The chamber shook violently again.

A massive crack split across the floor between Bianca and Volkov.

Steam burst upward from below.

Several alarms changed tone instantly.

CORE FAILURE IMMINENT.

EVACUATION ADVISED.

“Finally,” Bianca muttered.

“A system message with common sense.”

Volkov immediately turned toward her sharply.

“…what system?”

Oops.

Bianca froze.

The entire room suddenly felt very quiet.

Even Subject Twelve looked curious now.

Bianca forced a laugh.

“…the emotional system?”

Nobody looked convinced.

Fantastic.

The system itself flickered suddenly.

[ Host Intelligence Questionable ]

Bianca narrowed her eyes.

“Excuse you?”

Maya looked deeply confused.

Before anyone could question her further— another explosion ripped through the facility.

The floor collapsed near the far side of the chamber.

Children screamed as part of the room dropped into darkness below.

Volkov reacted instantly.

“Move!”

The remaining guards rushed toward the extraction corridor opening behind her.

Several children tried following.

The guards shoved them back immediately.

Panic exploded.

“Please!”

“Don’t leave us!”

One little boy couldn’t have been older than eight.

He clung desperately to a guard’s sleeve.

The guard threw him aside hard enough to send him crashing into concrete.

Something inside Bianca snapped. This chapter is updated first at g.com.

Not dramatically.

Not explosively.

Quietly.

Coldly.

The pressure behind her eyes intensified sharply.

The world around her suddenly slowed.

Not literally.

But everything became painfully clear.

Heartbeats.

Movement.

Fear.

Bianca moved before thinking.

One second she stood beside Maya.

The next— she grabbed the guard by the front of his uniform and slammed him into the wall.

Hard.

The entire room froze.

Including Bianca.

“…I did not know I could do that.”

The guard looked equally surprised.

Volkov’s eyes sharpened instantly.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

The system flickered violently.

[ Physical Adaptation Progressing ]

[ Stress Response Enhancement Active ]

“Oh good,” Bianca muttered.

“I’m mutating now.”

Subject Twelve laughed again.

A real laugh this time.

Weak.

Broken.

But genuine.

“You really are weird.”

Bianca pointed at him.

“You’re literally leaking darkness. Don’t judge me.”

Another crack split across the ceiling overhead.

Huge chunks of concrete began collapsing now.

People screamed.

The facility was dying fast.

Subject Twelve suddenly staggered again.

His breathing turned ragged.

The black veins across his body glowed faintly beneath his skin.

Bianca looked toward him sharply.

Something was wrong.

More wrong.

Then the system flashed red.

[ CRITICAL WARNING ]

[ ENERGY SURGE DETECTED ]

[ Catastrophic Event Imminent ]

“Oh that cannot be good.”

Subject Twelve slowly looked up.

Terror filled his empty black eyes for the first time.

“…run.”

Then the air around him distorted violently.

Reality itself cracked.

Just for a second.

Bianca’s blood ran cold instantly.

Because she recognized it.

The same cracks she saw falling from the sky before she died.

Blue fractures spreading through reality itself.

The chamber lights exploded.

Children screamed.

Even Volkov’s calm expression finally shattered.

“Impossible.”

Subject Twelve clutched his head violently.

“I CAN’T STOP IT!”

The fractures spread wider around him.

Tiny glowing cracks hanging in empty space.

And through them—

Bianca saw things moving.

Shapes.

Eyes.

Something massive staring back through the openings.

The system glitched violently across her vision.

[ ERROR ]

[ ERROR ]

[ VOID RESONANCE DETECTED ]

[ HOST COMPATIBILITY REACTING ]

Pain exploded through Bianca’s skull instantly.

She dropped to one knee gasping.

The cracks reacted to her.

No.

Worse.

They recognized her.

And suddenly every instinct Bianca had screamed the same horrifying realization:

She was never supposed to survive the fall.
