The three Soul Ferryman brothers exchanged glances.
“How should I put it? It’s definitely against the rules, but it’s not a big deal. The higher-ups usually turn a blind eye.”
“As long as you don’t alter the Death Date Fate, everything else is trivial.”
Yu Miaomiao seemed to understand somewhat, but she still had concerns.
“But my death date was changed. Will Brother Ming be punished for it later?”
“Hey, you only changed it by a few days—eight or ten days at most. No one will care. You’ll just stay in the Pending Induction Group.”
“If you changed it by eight or ten years all at once, then you’d definitely be investigated!”
“A-Ming knows all about this. Haven’t you noticed that every time he collects Life Span for you, it’s only three to five days? It’s to protect you.”
“Don’t work too hard just to earn Life Span. Keep it at this number of days, and you probably won’t be discovered until you die.”
So that’s how it is. Now Yu Miaomiao felt relieved.
“Thank you for the guidance, three Brother Gui. I’ll ask Brother Ming later. If it’s okay, I can help you out too.”
The three Soul Ferrymen were delighted. “Little sister, you’re as kind as you are beautiful. We won’t stand on ceremony then!”
Their bellies were full, but Brother Ming still hadn’t returned.
Yu Miaomiao grumbled slightly, “Why does he have so much work?”
The implication was that the three of them didn’t seem nearly as busy.
“He’s new to this department, so of course he has to work harder than us old-timers!”
Sigh, the Underworld Bureau’s workplace is just as unfair.
“What should we do now? How about playing Dou Dizhu?”
“There are four of us. Let’s play mahjong!”
Yu Miaomiao was impressed. The Brother Gui were truly versatile.
“But I don’t have mahjong…”
She did have playing cards, though.
“Then let’s play Niangniang! Perfect for four people!”
And so, the card game began.
Just as the one human and three ghosts were having fun, Maodou suddenly barked at the entrance.
“Someone’s here.” One of the Brother Gui stood up. “I’ll go check.”
As he lifted the tent flap, Yu Miaomiao saw two men kick Maodou away.
“Ah!”
She screamed and rushed out. “Why did you kick my dog!”
The two men stood there—one with his hands on his hips, the other with his arms crossed—both wearing sleazy grins.
“A beauty camping alone here? How lonely. How about big brother keeps you company playing cards?”
Maodou, who had been kicked away, got up from the ground and charged back, trying to protect its owner.
Worried it might get hurt again, Yu Miaomiao scooped the dog up and quickly shoved it back into the tent.
“Maodou, be good. Don’t come out!”
After settling the dog, she turned to face the two men who clearly had criminal intentions.
“What do you two want? Robbery or assault?”
The two men looked surprised. “This little beauty is quite bold, not scared at all!”
Of course, Yu Miaomiao wasn’t scared.
Just look at them—both short and stout, neither looking like they could take a hit. And behind her stood three Brother Gui, each over six feet tall. What was there to fear?
“I suggest you two drop those ideas. If I didn’t have some skills, would I dare camp here alone?”
The men couldn’t see the ghosts.
In their eyes, there was only a petite beauty they could easily overpower, camping alone on a beach where no one would hear her scream in the dead of night. It was practically a gift for their pleasure.
“What skills do you have, little sister? Show us a trick!” They grinned even more lewdly.
“You can slap his teeth out with one hand,” one of the Brother Gui whispered to her.
Catching the hint, Yu Miaomiao immediately put on a bold front. “Believe me, I can slap you so hard you’ll be picking your teeth off the ground!”
The men burst into laughter, and one of them even leaned forward, offering his face.
“Brother’s face is just itching, you can scratch it for—ah!!”
Yu Miaomiao raised her hand and slapped down, sending the man spinning 360 degrees before he fell face-first onto the ground.
It took him half a minute to recover before he scrambled up, clutching his bleeding mouth and exclaiming, “My teeth? My teeth are gone!!”
Yu Miaomiao rubbed her wrist. “Still itching? Need another one?”
