One of the Fuben’s clearance requirements was to find Ren Yuanxing. Unexpectedly, on the very first day inside the Fuben, she had already discovered a lead about him.
Jiang Liyue noticed that the dorm matron’s tone was unusual when she mentioned Room 415. Feigning curiosity, she pressed further, “Sister, what’s wrong with Room 415?”
“There’s nothing wrong with 415 itself—the roommates there are fairly well-behaved. It’s the neighboring Room 414…” The dorm matron stopped abruptly mid-sentence.
Jiang Liyue realized this might be crucial information and quickly followed up, “Is there a problem with 414?”
“Nothing much, just a few students who are a bit mischievous.” The dorm matron gave an evasive answer before swiftly changing the subject. “Alright, it’s getting late. You should head back to your dorm and rest.”
With that, she handed Jiang Liyue the room key.
Jiang Liyue sensed that the matron didn’t want to discuss the topic and didn’t push further. Having a lead was already a good thing.
So she went along with the matron’s change of subject and bid her farewell, “Thank you, sister. Let’s continue talking about your skincare secrets tomorrow.”
“Sure.” The dorm matron nodded with delight and grabbed her hand warmly. “If anyone disturbs your sleep, just let me know.”
After parting ways with the enthusiastic dorm matron, Jiang Liyue clutched the key she’d received and headed upstairs.
The hallway lighting was as dim as ever, the corridor pitch black except for moonlight. Jiang Liyue heard someone crying.
She paid it no mind, simply counting the floors as she climbed to the fourth, finding her dorm. She paused briefly when passing Room 414.
The crying seemed to be coming from 414.
But given the dorm matron’s ominous tone, Jiang Liyue had no intention of investigating at this hour.
Instead, she opened the door to Room 415.
The moment the door swung open, two identical faces with deathly pale complexions pressed forward. “Hello, new roommate.”
“Hello.” Jiang Liyue greeted them amiably.
The two female Guiyi were momentarily stunned that they hadn’t scared her, then deliberately leaned in with malicious intent. “Oh, new roommate, it looks like you dropped something.”
Following their words, Jiang Liyue looked down. A bloody head lay at her feet.
Meeting her gaze, the head curled its lips into a sinister grin, the corners of its mouth splitting all the way to its ears. “Hello there, new roommate.”
It then waited to see Jiang Liyue scream in terror.
After about a second of silence, Jiang Liyue bent down and smiled brightly at the head. “Hello.”
With that, she scooped up the lonely head, patted it on the top, and gently advised, “The floor is very cold. You’d better not lie on the ground.”
The head’s face flushed crimson in an instant, and it stammered back, “Th-thank you.”
“You’re welcome. After all, we’re going to be getting along well from now on.” Jiang Liyue curved her eyes, her tone friendly.
The three Guiyi exchanged glances, staring at Jiang Liyue who radiated a fragrant aura, screaming internally: What an angel!
Their new roommate was absolutely an angel!
[Another Guiyi has fallen. My wife is just so lovable.]
[LOL, if you’d seen Yueyue complimenting the female teacher and the dorm matron, you wouldn’t have tried to scare her with this trick.]
[I want Yueyue to pat my head too. I’m definitely signing up for the next Fuben!]
[I’m tired of watching players get scared out of their wits by Guiyi. Yueyue’s calm teasing of them is way more entertaining.]
[+1. I was wondering why I liked her more and more the more I watched. What’s the point of the same old routine?]
The three roommates stared at Jiang Liyue with sparkling eyes.
“Can I come in now?”
Seeing that they weren’t saying anything and just standing at the door, Jiang Liyue reminded them again, “It’s very late. If you don’t rest, the dorm matron might get angry. She even told me to report which students don’t follow the rules.”
Recalling the matron’s fierce demeanor, the three roommates couldn’t help but shudder.
The two with intact bodies stepped back two paces to make way.
As for the head in Jiang Liyue’s hands, it lingered, nuzzling against her palm before bouncing back to the body not far away like a rubber ball, “thump thump thump,” struggling to set itself straight on the neck.
Jiang Liyue curled her lips at the sight.
Sure enough, even the Guiyi inside the Fuben had to follow the rules.
Not only were the players students—the Guiyi were students too, and they were afraid of the dorm matron as well.
Jiang Liyue calmly walked into the dorm, and the door clicked shut behind her.
The room was pitch black inside, with only faint moonlight filtering in to reveal the general layout.
There were four beds in total, configured as bunk beds with desks underneath, looking somewhat worn.
Standing at the door, Jiang Liyue swept her gaze across the room and immediately spotted her bed—Bed No. 4, the one on the left near the balcony.
She was about to step forward when a pale hand suddenly grabbed her—it was the roommate whose head had fallen off earlier.
Jiang Liyue noticed her guilty expression.
The other two roommates were also sneaking glances, not daring to look at her directly.
The roommate tugging at her stammered, “Um, new roommate, your bed hasn’t been cleaned yet, so it’s not convenient to stay in right now. How about we clean it up for you first?”
As she spoke, the other two roommates, who looked quite similar to each other, trotted over to bed number four.
Jiang Liyue watched with her own eyes as they pulled out a huge pile of hair from the bed, a bloody arm, and a blood-stained bedsheet.
…What a truly generous welcome gift.
Jiang Liyue was utterly astonished—clearly these three Guiyi roommates had specially prepared these things for her.
If she hadn’t been prepared and had lain down on that…
Even though Jiang Liyue wasn’t afraid of Guiyi, she still felt a chill run down her spine.
“In a moment, in a moment they’ll have it cleaned up,” said the roommate holding Jiang Liyue’s hand, turning her face away in embarrassment, then whispering a request, “Please, whatever you do, don’t tell the dorm supervisor.”
Jiang Liyue understood. Their attitude toward her was influenced not only by the “Gui Jian Gui Ai” aura, but also by the dorm supervisor she’d mentioned when she first walked in.
No wonder the dorm supervisor had said the girls in Room 415 were a bit timid.
“It’s fine.” Jiang Liyue pretended not to see the things on the bed and let the two Guiyi clean up her bedding without a second thought.
While they were cleaning, the three Guiyi and the one human introduced themselves to one another.
The roommate whose head had fallen to the floor was named Zhu Huan, and the other two, who looked alike, were twin sisters named Zhou Mei and Zhou Li. None of them were in the same class as Jiang Liyue.
Jiang Liyue wanted to take the opportunity to probe for information about Room 414 next door.
But Zhu Huan and the other two all shook their heads, looking bewildered. “We… it seems we don’t remember anything.”
Jiang Liyue didn’t know if this was an effect of becoming Guiyi, so she could only let it go for now.
Bed number four was quickly remade by Zhou Mei and Zhou Li, and the three Guiyi and one human each went to bed to sleep.
In the dead of night, a dark shadow slipped in through the window of the girls’ dormitory, Room 415.
Pei Ji gazed at Jiang Liyue’s peaceful sleeping face with infatuation, then leaned down and wrapped his arms tightly around her, black mist spreading from his body and enveloping every inch of her exposed skin.
Like a creature of darkness embracing its most treasured possession, allowing no one else to covet even a fraction.
Yueyue hadn’t said whether friends could hug, but since she was asleep and wouldn’t know, a hug should be fine, right?
Pei Ji hugged her even tighter with complete justification.
The other three Guiyi in Room 415 had huddled together in fear the moment Pei Ji entered, cowering and trembling in the corner of the balcony.
They’d wanted to snuggle their adorable roommate too.
Wuwuwu, forget it—he was too scary, they didn’t dare.
