As soon as he landed, before he could even steady himself, an iron pipe swung violently toward him.
Levi only had time to tilt his head slightly, letting the iron pipe smash into his shoulder.
He avoided his vitals, but it still made him grimace in pain.
He quickly gripped his dagger.
Regardless of who was behind him, he turned and thrust with a blade!
With a squelch, the sharp tip of the blade pierced through soft flesh and was suddenly pulled out, bringing with it a string of pale intestines covered in thick blood.
The thug holding the iron rod’s eyes went blank, and he soon slumped to the ground.

Levi crouched down quickly and agilely, then stabbed his blade into the opponent’s Achilles tendon.
The thug shrieked and fell back into a sitting position; his neck was instantly slashed by the sharp dagger, and then his vision went dark.
In less than a few seconds, Levi had killed two people in a row.
He gasped for air, his heart thumping wildly as if it were about to jump out of his throat!
Feeling somewhat dizzy, he surveyed the dim basement before him and saw pairs of numb, lifeless eyes.
He froze instantly.
The dizziness in his head vanished, and his pupils focused, clearly seeing the owners of those pairs of eyes:
They were people with hunched backs, thin as sticks, both men and women.
They wore shackles on their feet and were tethered to the nearby wall by iron chains as thick as a finger.
On their shoulders, they carried thick wooden barrels filled with coarse hair of various colors.
In front of them stood a waist-high water vat filled with a grayish-white liquid.

An elderly woman, as gaunt as a matchstick, fell to the ground as if she had long ago exhausted her strength.
The wooden barrel on her shoulder hit the floor and rolled half a turn, spilling out snow-white, grayish-white, and brown hair that covered her body.
Her cloudy, aged eyes looked at Levi, flickering with a faint light that quickly died out.
She closed her eyes.
“Mama…”
A similarly thin and hunched man nearby was startled for a moment, but then, as if nothing had happened, he poured the hair from the barrel into the water vat, picked up a stick leaning to the side, and began to stir it stroke by stroke.
He seemed to have lost consciousness, becoming a Robot that only knew how to work.
His thin back, facing Levi, was covered in dense whip scars.

Simultaneously, a figure jumped directly down from the iron door in the Darkness!
Levi reflexively leaped out from the shadows, swinging his blade to stab the target, only to discover with shock when the blade was just inches away: the person was a terrified female weaver!
She had been thrown down by the gang to serve as bait!

Several gunshots rang out.
Levi quickly rolled away and hid behind a large water vat.
He wasn’t hit by the bullets, but the female worker who had been thrown down was shot in the thigh, letting out a piercing scream.
Taking advantage of the gap while Levi was suppressed by gunfire, two gangsters jumped down using the ladder, holding iron rods and daggers as they cautiously searched for Levi.

Once everyone was in place, the four gangsters formed an arc and slowly explored forward, searching for Levi’s whereabouts.
The basement wasn’t large; before long, Levi would be discovered!

Levi silently gripped his pistol, poked his head out from behind the water vat, and quietly took aim.
There were only five bullets in the gun, every shot was precious, and he had never fired a gun before; his accuracy was a concern.
