One evening at the end of September, Xin Che, as usual, arrived home very late. Susu didn't ask him anything, only saying, "Chen Ming asked me to meet him this weekend."
"Go ahead, hear what he has to say."
"I'm wondering if I made a mistake? Should I not have let Chen Ming take care of me at the hospital?"
Xin Che smiled helplessly, "You're only realizing that now?"
"At the time, I was just consumed by my own sadness and afraid you'd criticize me... I didn't think that much." Susu acted that way back then because deep down, she lacked confidence in her feelings for Xin Che—he often came home late, and she inevitably felt lonely and uneasy. She thought that if Xin Che's attitude changed after learning about her miscarriage, she could use it as an opportunity to separate for a while, giving them both time to calm down and think.
"You gave him hope, and you also showed him that you don't trust me. I'd be surprised if he hadn't contacted you. When we met, he even begged me to give you back to him."
Susu looked up and asked him, "What did you say?"
"What I said isn't important. What's important is, are you happy with me? When you gave up Chen Ming and chose me, perhaps you were just tired of a peaceful life, and you weren't prepared for a long-term relationship with me. Maybe you're now starting to miss the days you spent with him."
Her thoughts completely seen through, Susu's tone involuntarily weakened, "I'm not sure if you want to marry me because you love me, or if you just think I'm a suitable marriage prospect."
Xin Che felt a pang of disappointment, "So Chen Ming chose you because he loves you, and I chose you as a result of weighing pros and cons."
"That's not what I meant."
Xin Che didn't want to argue further, "I'm going to take a shower. You should sleep early."
Normally, Susu rarely contacted Xin Che during work hours; instead, Xin Che often sent her messages when he wasn't busy. The next day, not receiving any message from him all day, Susu sent him a text: "Are you busy?"
Xin Che quickly replied, "Extremely busy. Busy looking through the company to see if there's anyone more suitable for marriage than you."
Susu replied, "Your department has the most pretty girls in the whole company, take your time looking. I won't be coming home tonight, I'll make space for you."
He replied again, "Don't do that, I'm still waiting for you to coax me tonight. If you can't coax me well, I'll still have time to find someone else; they aren't going anywhere tomorrow."
Xin Che arrived home very late, as usual. After showering, he sat by the bed, leaned down, and kissed Susu. His fingertips slowly traced her body, and a warmth gradually rose. Susu responded with low moans.
Before losing control, he forcefully stopped himself, sat up straight, and complained, "Ever since you sulked and moved to Xiao Fei's house, I haven't touched you for two months... I'm about to break."
Susu sat up too, "And then?"
"No 'then.' I'll wait until you've recovered."
Susu smiled and asked, "Should I be managing you more lately, making you go out less for social engagements?"
"See, you never believe me. When I say 'I can't hold back,' can't it be because I miss you? Do you have to assume I'm going out to fool around?" Xin Che, with a hint of displeasure, deliberately provoked her, "Do you trust Chen Ming that much? How do you know he hasn't looked for someone else after you two broke up? Should I go find out for you?"
Susu couldn't be bothered with his talk about Chen Ming and simply asked him, "Then will you look for someone else?"
"No, I want you to help me." Xin Che said, pulling Susu's hand over. Susu didn't refuse. Her movements were gentle, her kisses responsive, and the intense passion made him completely lose control, letting the sensations spread throughout his body.
After their intimacy, Xin Che held her in his embrace and murmured by her ear, "Chen Ming knows you had a miscarriage for me and is still willing to have you. I can understand your current hesitation and indecision... but you should still choose me. I'm the one you truly like."
Seeing her remain silent, he deliberately teased her, "Call me 'Husband' a couple of times."
"I won't. Someone else has already called you that." Susu didn't want to indulge him in everything and casually found an excuse to brush him off.
