“The deed is done, isn’t it a bit too late to ask if I dare?”

Jiang Mo dropped the teapot back onto the table and retorted with a sneer.

Iris hurriedly grabbed her hand. “Miss, you didn’t get scalded, did you?”Full novel: Lying Down to Win Through Gourmet Food: The Whole Capital is My Backing — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I’m fine,” Jiang Mo reassured her, pulling her hand back into her sleeve.

“Smash the place!” Sheng Yongfeng pointed at them, gritting his teeth as he shouted at the top of his lungs, “Smash everything to pieces for me!”

The attendant raised his foot and kicked a table flying right past Jiang Mo’s side, almost crashing into her.

Jiang Mo’s face turned pale, and she was just about to tell Iris to go report it to the authorities when she heard a loud crash behind her.

Bang—

The square table that had just flown toward the entrance was struck by tremendous force and shattered into pieces in an instant.

Looking back, she saw a figure in dark robes standing with hands clasped behind his back at the doorway.

The man’s ink-black eyes were sharp, his face gloomy. With a flick of his wide robes, he brushed aside the floating dust in front of him and stepped inside.

Han You ran in from behind and barked at Sheng Yongfeng and his personal attendant.

“Who is making a disturbance here?!”

He was still dressed in the attire of a yamen runner, making his identity self-evident.

Sheng Yongfeng hadn’t expected the people from the yamen to arrive so quickly, especially since he hadn’t seen anyone go out to report the crime.

Iris was the first to jump up in joy. “Official, you’ve come at just the right time! These two are making trouble for no reason! They even smashed our restaurant’s things! Take them away right now!”

Han You rolled up his sleeves. “In that case, perfect. Jiangzhou is peaceful, and it’s been a long time since I’ve encountered someone this bold. Daring to stir up trouble under Lord Shen’s rule—let me, your grandfather here, show you what’s what.”

Sheng Yongfeng’s eyes darted rapidly. “Official, official, let’s make things convenient. The shopkeeper and I only had a small friction. Look at me, all covered in tea—she’s the one who poured it on me. How can I not be angry?”

“You deserved it! Who told you to be bold enough to harass our young lady!” Iris said indignantly.

Hearing this, Han You’s eyebrows shot straight up.

“You two, come with me!”

Seeing that polite negotiation was getting him nowhere, Sheng Yongfeng immediately blurted out, “I am the eldest young master of the Sheng family, and my father serves right in the prefectural yamen! We’re all on the same side.”

“?” Han You glared at him angrily. “Who’s on the same side as you? What’s your father’s name!”

He wanted to see which brat was bold enough to indulge his son in committing crimes.

“My father is Sheng Feihong,” Sheng Yongfeng said hastily.

Han You paused for a moment, looking suspiciously at Shen Zhengze.

Why did the name Sheng Feihong sound so familiar?

Wasn’t it the name of Prefectural Assistant Sheng?

Shen Zhengze’s gaze didn’t ripple in the slightest as he gave Han You an order: “Take them away, and have Bai Qiao handle it.”

Without a second word, Han You stepped forward to make the arrest.

His martial arts were quite good, and the attendant was no match for him whatsoever. Furthermore, the attendant didn’t dare to clash head-on with him; resisting would only add crimes to their offenses.

Sheng Yongfeng’s shouting and yelling were muffled, and he was dragged away bound hand and foot.

The restaurant quieted down, leaving only a scene of utter wreckage on the floor.

Jiang Mo steadied herself, curtsied to thank Shen Zhengze, invited him to be seated, and turned to tell Iris to clean up the floor.

“Does my Lord have any dishes in mind?” she inquired.

Shen Zhengze secretly appraised her brows and eyes. Seeing her gaze remain fearless in the face of danger, he noted she possessed quite some nerve.

The corner of her white veil was stained with tea and a speck of tea leaves.

He rubbed his fingers together for a moment, looked away, and raised his teacup to take a sip.

“Just make any two dishes.”

Jiang Mo pondered to herself—it seemed the dishes she made quite suited this lord’s palate.

“Then please wait a moment, my Lord.”

With that, she headed into the kitchen.

After cleaning up the debris on the ground, Iris hurried into the kitchen to find her, looking heartbroken.

“Miss, we smashed a whole set of tea utensils, not to mention the tables and chairs. That infuriating scoundrel!”

“It’s fine. Since they smashed them, someone is going to have to pay for them.”
