18 – This Man is Too Dangerous
The daytime stimulation still had some effect on Ning Dai. That night, he developed a high fever, his burning forehead frightening Tang Qianluo.
She immediately contacted Zuo Ye, then used a towel to cool him down over and over again.
His fever was so severe that even his lips were chapped and cracked.
Ning Dai curled up on his side on the bed. Though they had known each other for a long time, this was the first time Tang Qianluo had seen him in such a fragile state.
“Ning Dai,” Tang Qianluo called softly, but the man was too ill to respond at all.
The water in the basin had turned warm. Frowning, she wanted to fetch a fresh basin, but before she could stand up, Ning Dai grabbed her arm and pulled her into his embrace.
His burning cheek pressed against Tang Qianluo’s neck, clinging desperately.
The hot breath from his nostrils felt as if it would scald Tang Qianluo.
Zuo Ye stood at the doorway, feeling caught in a dilemma. The scene inside looked so intimate—would Ning Dai silence him if he entered now?
“Zuo Ye, come in quickly! Ning Dai is burning up so much he might go delirious!” Tang Qianluo called out loudly. With Zuo Ye’s rescue, she finally broke free.
Ning Dai’s fever was severe; Zuo Ye didn’t dare take chances and had to put him on an IV drip.
After one bag of IV fluid, Ning Dai’s burning temperature finally subsided.
Seeing Ning Dai’s condition gradually stabilize, Tang Qianluo remembered he hadn’t eaten anything all day. She got up and went to the kitchen to prepare some porridge for him.
No matter how vulnerable Ning Dai might be when ill, the moment he opened his eyes, he was once again the king who looked down upon all things.
He scanned the room but didn’t see the figure he wanted to see, his brow furrowing tightly.
“Hey, hey, hey! Don’t move! The IV isn’t finished yet!” Zuo Ye couldn’t help but exclaim, seeing the blood backing up in the tube.
Ning Dai yanked out the needle, a few drops of blood splattering onto the bedsheet.
Just as he sat up, he saw Tang Qianluo standing at the doorway with a tray, her face horrified as she shouted,
“Lie down! You have a fever!”
She set the tray aside and complained, “You’ve just gotten a little better. If you keep this up, your fever will spike again!”
What she really wanted to say was, “Spare me, boss! It’s 3 a.m.—I’m so sleepy!”
Surprisingly, Ning Dai, who had been in a frantic state, obediently lay back down and even pulled up the covers.
Zuo Ye was stunned. Was this really Ning Dai? Where was that Cold-faced King of Hell?
Tang Qianluo picked up the bowl of porridge and fed it to Ning Dai spoonful by spoonful.
The bowl was empty in no time. After drinking the porridge, a hint of color finally returned to Ning Dai’s pale face.
She put down the pillow, tucked Ning Dai in, and prepared to see Zuo Ye out. She felt somewhat apologetic for troubling him so late at night.
Suddenly, her arm was grabbed forcefully. She turned around to see Ning Dai’s gloomy face as he asked, “Where are you going?”
“To see Doctor Zuo out!”
“Doesn’t he have feet? Let him leave on his own!”
Zuo Ye nearly threw his medical kit at Ning Dai’s head!
Prioritizing your woman over your friend—how heartless!
He forced a stiff smile, waved his hand, and said, “I can leave on my own. No need to see me out.”
Ning Dai stared coldly, as if asking, “Aren’t you going to scram yet?”
Gritting his teeth, Zuo Ye stomped heavily toward the door and slammed it shut with a loud bang to vent his anger!
Ning Dai pulled Tang Qianluo into his arms, locking her against his chest before closing his eyes to rest.
He had forced a kiss on her during the day, and now he was holding her at night.
Tang Qianluo felt utterly confused. What exactly was their relationship? It felt somewhat intimate! She struggled to break free from Ning Dai’s embrace, but he only held her tighter.
His eyes closed, he said with displeasure, “If you keep squirming, I can’t guarantee I’ll just hold you while we sleep!”
What do you want to do then? Tang Qianluo was shocked!
But she truly didn’t dare move anymore, yielding to the big shot!
Her thoughts drifted wildly until she eventually fell into a hazy, deep sleep.
The next morning when Tang Qianluo woke up, Ning Dai was still sound asleep. This was the first time since their marriage that she had woken up earlier than him.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, scattering fragmented rays across the bed, warm and cozy.
His long eyelashes fluttered slightly in the sunlight, and his sharp features appeared softened by the golden glow.
Tang Qianluo couldn’t resist tracing his facial features with her fingertip.
Even before their marriage, she had heard of Ning Dai’s reputation—the unparalleled Young Master Ning of the capital.
He lived up to that description. Even lying still, he embodied nobility and elegance!
She withdrew her hand, not daring to look any longer, afraid she might lose her heart to him.
But it was as if the man had X-ray vision. Before Tang Qianluo could evade, a sudden movement left her entirely under Ning Dai’s control, lying on top of him.
She lowered her head and eyes, only to meet Ning Dai’s deep gaze directly.
A smirk played on Ning Dai’s lips as he half-opened his mesmerizing eyes, teasing, “So early in the morning, my wife, what is this?”
Tang Qianluo stared wide-eyed in shock. What’s going on? Has he lost his mind from fever? Where’s my cold, overbearing president?
She struggled to get up from Ning Dai and fled the room as if escaping.
She could marry him, stay in the Ning Family, fulfill Grandpa’s dying wish—but she absolutely must not fall for him!
He was too dangerous. If he ever grew to despise her the way Tang Chengye despised Wan Qing, she wouldn’t even have a supportive family to rely on like Wan Qing did!
Watching Tang Qianluo flee in panic, Ning Dai’s eyes turned icy cold.
During breakfast, Tang Qianluo ate in silence, ignoring everyone. The atmosphere between them grew awkward, dropping to freezing point. The servants wisely kept their distance, afraid to provoke either of these formidable figures.
After breakfast, Tang Qianluo quickly retreated to her room, using lack of rest from the previous night as an excuse.
Only when she saw the Maybach speeding away downstairs did she let out a deep breath, as if she had narrowly escaped disaster.
After composing herself, she hid in the dressing room and started her live stream. She hadn’t signed a contract earlier precisely because she feared she couldn’t meet the streaming hours—now it seemed her foresight had paid off.
“OK, we have plenty of time today. Let’s chat while I do my makeup.”
[Host, why is the corner of your mouth injured? Did you kiss someone?] —Comment
[No, it looks like a fight. Look closely, there’s a scar on her cheek.] —Comment
“No fighting! What fighting in a society ruled by law? I just got hurt by accident!” Tang Qianluo explained, covering the wound with concealer.
The live stream lasted two hours. After ending it, she wearily rubbed her neck.
Withdrawing the remaining balance from her account, she transferred every last cent—one thousand in total—to He Luo.
He Luo didn’t accept it but instead asked if she wanted to join an Animal Aid event tomorrow.
Tang Qianluo thought about it. Since she had nothing to do lately, it would be good to go—a perfect opportunity to avoid Ning Dai.
After they made plans, Tang Qianluo washed off her makeup, tossed her phone aside, and went to the backyard to play with Bach.
She spent the whole day playing with Bach, only returning to her room as dusk fell.Opening the door, Ning Dai sat gloomily by the bed, clutching her phone in his hand!
