Ji Mianyue no longer cared about those rumors. Her mind was entirely consumed by how she would explain things to her mothers when she returned home. She felt a mix of fear and anxiety. Initially, Ji Mianyue intended to shoulder these emotions alone, but then she remembered what Wen Conghan had told her recently. After thinking it over, she decided to send Wen Conghan a message.

The gloom on Wen Conghan’s face vanished the instant she saw the notification. Wang Ming, noticing that Wen Conghan’s mood had improved for some unknown reason, took the opportunity to scramble into a corner as soon as she moved her foot away. After replying to Ji Mianyue with a soft smile, Wen Conghan spared a final glance at Wang Ming. In that moment, her expression made it seem as if she were looking at a corpse.

As she stepped out of the Alpha dormitory, Wen Conghan decided to call Ji Mianyue directly.Full novel: Married First, Loved Later with the Fake Heiress (ABO) — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Hello.”

The moment Wen Conghan’s voice came through the line, Ji Mianyue’s heart suddenly settled. She realized there was someone who would stay by her side and help her resolve these issues.

“Are you still worried about tomorrow?” Wen Conghan asked. She chatted with Ji Mianyue as she walked toward the Omega dormitory building.

“A little bit. What if I accidentally let something slip?”

Ji Mianyue had absolutely zero confidence in her own ability to lie. As she fretted, she heard a soft chuckle from the other end.

“What are you laughing at?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Ji Mianyue felt she should not have been so sharp with Wen Conghan. However, before she could apologize, Wen Conghan spoke.

“How about this? You do not have to lie. I will be the one to tell the lies, alright?”

Hearing this through the phone, Ji Mianyue’s face gradually turned red. How can someone be this good? she whispered to herself.

“You are so good to me. Are you not afraid that I might actually fall for you?”

Unfortunately, Ji Mianyue spoke so quietly that Wen Conghan did not hear her.

“What was that? I did not catch what you said,” Wen Conghan asked.

Ji Mianyue quickly changed the subject and began talking about other things. She carefully detailed everything about the Ji family, sharing every small part of her life with Wen Conghan. Perhaps even she had not noticed that she was no longer afraid to tell Wen Conghan about her experiences in the Ji household.

Wen Conghan listened quietly, responding occasionally. Though she was a person of few words, she still managed to make Ji Mianyue feel incredibly happy. Eventually, a roommate called out to Ji Mianyue.

“Mianyue! That person standing downstairs with a phone looks like your partner.”

Upon hearing this, Ji Mianyue rushed to the window with her phone in hand. Beneath the white streetlights of the school stood a figure in a black coat. The person looked up toward Ji Mianyue and waved. If it was not Wen Conghan, who else could it be?

“Why are you here? It is so cold! I only wanted to talk on the phone. I am coming down right now!”

Ji Mianyue had not expected to see Wen Conghan before going to bed. She dashed out of the room immediately.

“Your coat!” Guan Nian shouted as she watched Ji Mianyue bolt out like the wind without even grabbing a jacket. “It is your fault for telling her! She is going to catch a cold!” Guan Nian glared at the roommate.

“They are a young couple. Of course I had to tell her. I will just take her coat down to her,” the roommate replied nonchalantly before putting on her own jacket to follow Ji Mianyue.

Guan Nian originally wanted to bring the coat down herself, but she truly did not want to see Wen Conghan.

“How did you get here? Why did you come?”

Ji Mianyue’s eyes were bright and clear, though they seemed to hold a trace of mist. She stood in front of Wen Conghan, hopping excitedly like a little sparrow that had found food. Seeing that Ji Mianyue’s nose was red from the cold, Wen Conghan immediately opened her heavy coat and pulled the girl into a tight embrace.

“I happened to be free, so I came for a stroll,” Wen Conghan lied casually. Whenever she missed Ji Mianyue, she always seemed to find herself going for a stroll.

She wanted to finalize the marriage arrangements as soon as possible. She wanted to share a dormitory with Ji Mianyue. She did not want to have to walk this distance every time she missed her. Wen Conghan hoped for a day when she only had to reach out to pull the girl into her arms or do something even more intimate.

Only after being wrapped inside Wen Conghan’s coat did Ji Mianyue realize how little she was wearing. The air was freezing, so she hugged Wen Conghan back to soak up the warmth.

“Actually, I was not that anxious. I was only a little bit worried,” Ji Mianyue mumbled, burying her face in Wen Conghan’s soft embrace. “Now that I see you, I am not anxious anymore.”

Hearing this, Wen Conghan’s bad mood caused by Wang Ming vanished completely.

“That is good.”

Wen Conghan tried to wrap her coat even more securely around Ji Mianyue. Her careful movements brought a smile to Ji Mianyue’s lips.

“When you go back up, take my coat with you. Do not catch a cold. You are wearing far too little.”

Wen Conghan could tell just by touching her that Ji Mianyue was only wearing fuzzy pajamas. While fine indoors, that thickness was not enough for the outdoor chill.

“No! It will only take me a second to go up. It will take you much longer to get back to the Alpha dorms!”

Ji Mianyue shook her head firmly and held onto Wen Conghan’s hands to stop her from taking off the coat. The two of them went back and forth, one trying to give the coat away and the other refusing to take it.

“Ahem! If I did not have an Alpha of my own, I would not have been able to handle this much public display of affection tonight.”

The roommate draped the jacket she had brought over Ji Mianyue and pulled her out of Wen Conghan’s arms.

“Why are you still so reluctant to let go? Look at the time. The doors close at ten o’clock, and it is already nine fifty. Are you two planning to stay at a hotel tonight?”

That single sentence turned both of their faces bright red.

“Do not say that!”

Ji Mianyue whispered her protest as she was dragged away by her roommate.

“Back to your respective dorms. Goodbye, Student Wen,” the roommate said decisively.

Ji Mianyue could only turn her head to wave at Wen Conghan.

“See you tomorrow!” Ji Mianyue smiled sweetly, her clear face radiating a sense of warmth.

“See you tomorrow,” Wen Conghan replied. She waited until Ji Mianyue had completely disappeared from sight before walking back to her own dormitory.

When Ji Mianyue returned to the room, her roommates, with the exception of Guan Nian, began to lecture her.

“Mianmian, you cannot date like this. Look at you. You are turning into a complete romantic! Exactly! You did not even wear a coat. You are going to freeze to death! Can love fill your stomach? Can it act as an electric heater?”

As they all chimed in, Ji Mianyue felt her head spinning. She was the youngest in the dorm and the least capable of talking back. She could only respond vaguely while secretly thinking to herself that it was not even a real relationship yet. She did not even know if Wen Conghan liked her a little bit.

At that moment, Ji Mianyue thought that if she could just get past her roommates, the lecturing would be over. However, when she finally went home, she heard almost the exact same words.

“Mianyue, answer your mother honestly. Are you being threatened? Do you actually not like Wen Conghan at all?”
