“…and that you won’t disappoint those who have chosen to place their trust in you.” The meaning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer.

This wasn’t merely a congratulation.

It wasn’t even advice.

It was a warning.

And somehow…

I had a feeling it wouldn’t be the last one Before I could respond, he gave a slight nod and calmly walked away, as though he had already said everything he intended to.

Instinctively, my eyes searched for Uncle Shedrak.

He was still speaking with another shareholder, but almost immediately, he noticed me watching him.

Excusing himself, he walked over.

“Are you alright, Alice?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.

I nodded before forcing a faint smile.

“I’m just…

a little nervous.” He smiled reassuringly.

“That’s only natural.” He gently patted my shoulder.

“I believe in you, Alice.” “And your aunt and I will always be here whenever you need us.” He paused before adding with a faint smile, “And now…

you have Alexander standing beside you too.” My smile faltered for the briefest moment before I nodded.

“Thank you, Uncle.” “Come on.” He smiled warmly.

“Let’s show our new CEO her office.” I let out a quiet breath before following beside him.

As we walked down the corridor, I became increasingly aware of the curious glances following us.

Some were filled with admiration.

Others with doubt.

And a few…

with open judgment.

My fingers tightened around the strap of my handbag.

This was only my first day.

There was still a long road ahead.

And somehow…

I had a feeling Mr.

Vaughn’s warning was only the beginning…..

I’ve gone to the CEO’s office countless times when my parents were still alive.

Then, after they passed away, I avoided this hallway as much as I could during the five years I lived under Uncle Shedrak’s care.

Yet today…

As I walked through the familiar corridor with my uncle and several company shareholders beside me, I realized something.

The nervousness I’d felt earlier was gone.

In its place…

Was sadness.

My gaze slowly swept across the hallway.

Everything looked exactly as I remembered.

The polished marble floors.

The framed awards lining the walls.

The employees who respectfully stepped aside as we passed.

Nothing had changed.

Yet everything had.

The last time I’d walked this corridor, I had been on my way to see my dad after one of his meetings.

Back then, I was simply his daughter.

A high school student who never imagined she’d one day stand where he once stood.

Whenever Mum and Dad joked about me inheriting the company someday, I would laugh it off without taking them seriously.

To me…

They would always be here.

There would always be more time.

But life had other plans.

After they were gone…

Their company became the last tangible piece of them they left behind.

That was why I’d made a promise to myself.

No matter how difficult the road became…

No matter how many people doubted me…

I would never allow my parents’ years of hard work to disappear.

There were moments over the past five years when that promise had seemed impossible to keep.

Yet here I was.

Walking toward the very office that had once belonged to my father.

Not as the little girl who used to visit him after school.

Not as a guest.

But…

As the new CEO of the Johnson Culinary Group.

Taking a slow breath, I steadied myself.

This office no longer represented what I’d lost.

From today onward…

It would represent the future I intended to build in honor of the people who had given me everything.

I turned to look at Uncle Shedrak as I stood before the floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading into my new office.

He gave me a small, reassuring smile.

Taking a quiet breath, I slowly pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The moment I crossed the threshold, my footsteps instinctively slowed.

It was exactly the same.

Almost as though the past five years had never happened.

The spacious office was bathed in warm sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind the desk, overlooking the heart of B-City.

The polished wooden floor gleamed beneath my feet, while the rich scent that always filled the office was still there.

My gaze slowly wandered across the room.

The large mahogany desk stood exactly where it had always been.

Behind it sat the black leather chair my father used every day, facing shelves lined with business awards, industry trophies, and countless neatly arranged files.

Along one wall stretched an elegant bookcase filled with books on business, economics, and hospitality—many of which Dad had tried to convince me to read long before I ever developed an interest in them.

Near the windows was a comfortable seating area with two cream-colored sofas surrounding a low wooden table, where he often welcomed business partners or simply enjoyed a quiet cup of coffee between meetings.

Nothing had changed.

Not even the framed family photograph resting on the corner of the desk.

I slowly walked over to it and gently picked it up.

It was a picture of Mum, Dad, and me taken years ago during one of our family vacations.

Back then…

None of us could have imagined how much our lives would change.

My fingers lightly brushed across the glass covering their smiling faces.

For a brief moment, it felt as though Dad would walk through the door at any second, smile at me, and ask why I was sitting in his office again.

A lump formed in my throat.

I carefully returned the photograph to its place before resting my hand on the back of his chair.

This used to be my father’s office.

Today…

It had become mine.

Hi guys if you’re still reading then it means you’ve decided to give my work a try, and I really appreciate it.

I’ll repeat myself again, this was my first ever book so you have to pardon the mistakes and keep supporting me, thanks.
