Wos was busy in the kitchen, preparing lunch.
Although the household now had a troublesome Useless Goddess in it, life had to go on.
“Let’s just make some simple spaghetti tonight.” Wos opened the fridge.
“Aqua shouldn’t be picky about food… right?”
Just then, Aqua’s voice came from the living room.
“Wow! Little Jerry, you’re amazing! You can actually understand me!”
“You too, Tom! You two are even smarter than the angels in the Heavenly Realm!”
Wos peeked out through the crack in the kitchen door and saw that Aqua had completely shaken off the gloom from earlier and was excitedly interacting with Tom and Jerry.
“Do you want to see this goddess’s magic?” Aqua said mysteriously.
“I can conjure up lots of fun things!”
Tom and Jerry looked at each other, both with curious expressions.
Although they had just seen how terrifying Aqua’s flood spell could be, they were still very interested in magic itself.
“Then I’ll perform a little spell for you!” Aqua proudly puffed out her chest.
“This one is absolutely not dangerous!”
She stretched out her right hand, and a faint blue glow began to shine from her palm.
“Watch closely! Water Ball Technique!”
A fist-sized water ball condensed in Aqua’s palm, crystal clear and sparkling under the light.
Tom’s eyes went wide.
This was the first time he had ever seen real magic with his own eyes.
Jerry got even more excited, jumping up and circling around Aqua.
“How about that? Impressive, right!” Aqua said proudly.
“This is this goddess’s specialty!”
Just then, the water ball suddenly began to tremble unstably.
“Huh? What’s going on?” Aqua frowned.
“It’s usually very stable…”
“Boom!”
The water ball suddenly exploded, water splashing everywhere and drenching Aqua, Tom, and Jerry completely.
“Aaaah!” Aqua screamed.
“Why did that happen?!”
Hearing the commotion, Wos in the kitchen rushed out to check.
The moment he saw the disaster in the living room, his face turned black.
“Aqua! What are you up to now?!”
“I… I just wanted to perform a little spell…” Aqua said, wronged.
“It’s never had a problem before…”
Tom and Jerry stood there soaking wet, Tom’s fur plastered against his body, making him look like a drowned chicken.
Jerry was even worse off, his tiny body knocked sideways by the water.
“Look at what you’ve done!” Wos pointed at the drenched Tom and Jerry.
“Look at the state they’re in!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” Aqua hurriedly apologized.
“I really don’t know why it failed…”
Tom shook the water off his body and looked at Aqua helplessly.
“Forget it, you two go take a bath and change clothes first.” Wos rubbed his temples.
“Aqua, you come help me clean up the living room.”
“Huh? Why do I have to clean?” Aqua said, unconvinced.
“This goddess never does housework!”
Wos made a motion as if to undo his belt.
“I’ll clean! Right away!” Aqua changed her tune immediately and obediently went to find a mop.
Tom and Jerry looked at each other and saw sympathy in each other’s eyes.
It seemed this new roommate really was a troublemaker.
Half an hour later, the living room was finally clean.
Aqua collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted.
Having never done housework before, she was worn out just from mopping the floor.
“Huff… huff… this goddess is so tired…” Aqua panted.
“Why is a mortal’s life so hard?”
“Because mortals aren’t like certain Useless Goddesses who get to sit back and enjoy the results,” Wos said, carrying the finished spaghetti out of the kitchen.
“Alright, time to eat.”
The fragrant spaghetti instantly perked Aqua up.
Looking at the tempting noodles and rich tomato sauce, she was almost drooling.
“Wow! It smells so good!” Aqua’s eyes lit up.
“What is this?”
“Spaghetti, a mortal food.” Wos had prepared small portions for Tom and Jerry too.
“You’ve probably never had it, right?”
“Of course not! Food in the Heavenly Realm is all nectar and ambrosia and such.” Aqua eagerly picked up her fork.
“I’m digging in!”
She twirled up a big mouthful of noodles and stuffed it in her mouth.
“Mmm mmm mmm! Delicious! So delicious!” Aqua’s eyes were sparkling with stars.
“This sweet and sour taste, and the texture of the noodles! A hundred times better than food in the Heavenly Realm!”
Tom and Jerry were enjoying their own small portions of spaghetti too.
Though the portions weren’t large, to them it was already a rare treat.
“Is it really that good?” Wos was a little surprised.
“I thought you’d look down on mortal food.”
“Of course not!” Aqua said while eating heartily.
“Food in the Heavenly Realm is nutritious, but the taste is very monotonous. This kind of layered flavor is something this goddess is tasting for the very first time!”
Seeing Aqua eat with such relish, Wos felt a bit better too.
At least this Useless Goddess wasn’t picky about food, which was good news.
“By the way, Wos.” Aqua suddenly stopped eating.
“You said this world is dangerous earlier. What exactly did you mean?”
Wos put down his fork and his expression turned serious.
“This world has a lot of people with superpowers, some good and some bad. The good ones are called superheroes, and the bad ones are called super villains.”
“Superheroes? Sounds impressive!” Aqua became interested.
“How strong are they?”
“For example, there will be a guy called Iron Man who wears high-tech armor and can fly and fight. And there’s Captain America, who is muscular and never misses with his shield,” Wos explained.
“The scariest is the Hulk, who turns into a green giant when he’s angry, with almost unlimited strength.”
“Pfft, that doesn’t sound like such a big deal.” Aqua was unimpressed. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.
“This goddess’s flood spell can drown a whole city, my purification can eliminate all evil, and my resurrection spell can even make dead people stand up again!”
“The problem is that your magic often goes out of control,” Wos said, pointing at the spot that had just been soaked.
“Like the Water Ball Technique just now.”
“That… that was just an accident!” Aqua’s face turned red.
“This goddess’s magic is usually very stable!”
Tom rolled his eyes on the side, clearly not believing Aqua.
Jerry kept eating his spaghetti with great concentration, uninterested in this argument.
“There are even scarier enemies,” Wos continued.
“For example, a purple alien called Purple Yam Spirit who collected six Infinity Stones and can make half the life in the universe disappear with a snap of his fingers.”
“What?!” Aqua’s eyes went wide.
“Half of all life? Isn’t that way too exaggerated?”
“I’m not exaggerating,” Wos said seriously.
“So now you understand why I don’t let you use magic casually, right? If these people notice us, we’ll be in trouble.”
Aqua was silent for a while, as if digesting this information.
“Then… what should we do?” Her voice sounded a little uneasy.
“What if we really run into these terrifying enemies?”
“Keep a low profile and don’t cause trouble,” Wos said.
“As long as we behave ourselves, there shouldn’t be any problem.”
“But…” Aqua bit her lip.
“What if they come looking for us on their own?”
“Then we’ll just have to deal with it as it comes,” Wos sighed.
“I hope that day never comes.”
Listening to the two talk, Tom and Jerry could also sense how dangerous this world was.
But as veterans of countless “life-and-death battles,” the two of them weren’t too worried.
“Alright, let’s not talk about such heavy topics.” Wos picked his fork back up.
“After we eat, let’s watch some TV and relax.”
“TV?” Aqua asked curiously.
“What’s that?”
“You’ll find out in a moment.” Wos smiled mysteriously.
After dinner, Wos turned on the old TV.
A colorful picture appeared on the screen, playing a comedy movie.
“Wow! There are people inside this black box!” Aqua exclaimed in amazement.
“How did they get in there?”
“They’re not real people, it’s a recording,” Wos explained.
“It’s like… um… a magic mirror, which can show things happening in other places.”
“How amazing!” Aqua excitedly moved closer to the screen.
“This is even clearer than the crystal balls in the Heavenly Realm!”
Tom and Jerry were drawn to the TV too, and the two little ones sat on the sofa, watching the screen with complete focus.
And so, this strange group of four spent their first meal together.
Although there had been some twists along the way, it had ended peacefully.
At least for now…
