“Ethan, are you serious?”
“You said you were in business.
How did you end up becoming a fortune teller?”
“And does fortune-telling actually work?
Come on, don’t mess with us!”
Mason, Leo, and Cal stared at Ethan, convinced he was pulling their legs.
Fortune-telling?
In this day and age?
It sounded like nothing more than an outdated superstition.
Sure, people could always find some vague explanation or supposed scientific basis for it, but hardly anyone took the practice seriously anymore.
“Of course it works!” Ethan replied confidently.
He gave them a mysterious smile.
“Anyone willing to try?
Hold out your left hand, and I’ll read your fortune for free.”
As he spoke, Ethan casually tapped the Bluetooth earpiece in his ear.
That was his so-called secret weapon.
With JARVIS at his disposal, the internet was practically an open book.
In an age when people shared so much information online, all he needed was access to enough personal details to piece together things that others would consider impossible to know.
Was that really so different from fortune-telling?
The three former roommates exchanged glances.
Eventually, Mason stepped forward and held out his hand.
“Ethan, tell me when I’m going to get rich!”
“That’s too far into the future.
You probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
Let’s start with something more immediate.”
Ethan took a leisurely sip of wine before looking directly at him.
“Mason, you recently bought three stocks based on recommendations from some so-called investment gurus in an online group, didn’t you?”
Mason’s eyes widened.
Ethan continued calmly.
“Listen to me.
Sell all three immediately.
Those stocks are going to crash tomorrow.
If you hold on to them, you’ll lose almost everything.”
“What the hell?
Those three stocks are going to crash?
But the guy who recommended them said…”
Mason looked utterly bewildered.
“Even the most experienced investment professionals can’t guarantee a profit every time,” Ethan interrupted.
“If you believe someone who promises guaranteed returns, you’re practically asking to lose your money.”
He held out his hand.
“Give me your phone.”
Mason quickly handed it over.
“Wait, let me unlock it first…”
He was about to scan his fingerprint when Ethan casually swiped up, entered the six-digit passcode, and opened the phone without the slightest hesitation.
Mason froze.
“What the hell?!
Ethan, how did you know my passcode?”
Ethan shrugged as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“I’m a fortune teller, aren’t I?
If I can’t even figure out a simple phone password, how am I supposed to make a living?”
The remark left the others speechless.
They had never heard of a fortune teller who could predict someone’s phone password!
Until now, they had assumed Ethan was joking.
But after watching him unlock Mason’s phone without being told the passcode, they couldn’t help reconsidering.
If he could figure out something like that, what else might he know?
Of course, Ethan was holding back quite a bit.
With JARVIS’s capabilities, he wouldn’t have needed to guess the password at all.
He could simply have accessed the phone directly.
But there was no reason to reveal everything at once.
Ethan opened a messaging app and found a group chat titled “Driving Club.”
The moment Mason saw the group name, his expression changed.
“Ethan, about that…”
“I know.
It’s a gambling group.”
Ethan continued scrolling through the messages.
“And you have several similar groups on other apps, too.
You’ve been involved in this for the past six months, haven’t you?”
Mason’s face grew increasingly uneasy.
Without looking up from the phone, Ethan continued, “You need to quit while you can.
These games are rigged by the people running them.
You think you’re making money, but they’re controlling the outcomes behind the scenes.
I can even predict what they’ll do next.”
As he spoke, Ethan typed a message into the group.
“$5,000 on big!”
Mason, Leo, and Cal crowded closer, their eyes fixed on the screen.
A few seconds passed.
Then all three erupted.
“No way!”
“Holy crap!”
Mason even shot to his feet, his excitement drawing the attention of several classmates sitting nearby.
They turned toward the commotion, wondering what on earth had happened.
“Ethan?
Mason?
Cal?
What are you guys doing over there?”
One of the classmates leaned over and asked curiously.
“Ethan can tell fortunes!” Cal blurted out excitedly.
“He’s predicting the outcome of an online gambling game!”
A moment ago, Cal had thought Ethan was simply making things up to entertain them.
Now, after seeing the result for himself, he was beginning to believe that Ethan’s abilities were genuinely extraordinary.
He wasn’t merely reading palms or making vague predictions like an ordinary fortune teller.
He could even predict the outcomes of gambling games!
“Ethan, you can really tell fortunes?”
“How can fortune-telling predict a gambling result?”
“Let me see!”
News of the strange spectacle spread quickly.
One curious classmate after another gathered around Ethan, eager to see what was happening.
Fortune-telling wasn’t something they encountered every day.
And now, the person demonstrating it was their own former classmate, the same man who had just arrived in a Bugatti Veyron.
The contrast was almost too much to believe!
Naturally, curiosity got the better of them.
Before long, nearly half the class had gathered around Ethan to watch.
The remaining classmates stayed near Adrian Cross, continuing their conversation and trying to maintain their connection with the wealthy heir.
Adrian noticed the shift in attention immediately.
His expression darkened.
This was his gathering.
He had organized the reunion, arranged the luxurious venue, and paid for everything.
He should have been the center of attention.
Yet here was Ethan, an old classmate with no prominent background, stealing the spotlight with a ridiculous claim about fortune-telling.
Adrian was furious.
Fortunately, Claire Bennett hadn’t joined the crowd around Ethan.
Seeing that his most important guest was still beside him, Adrian forced himself to relax and resumed their conversation, hiding his irritation behind a pleasant smile.
Meanwhile, Ethan was getting started on his next demonstration.
“$10,000 on triples.”
The moment he placed the bet, several people around him looked uneasy.
A triple?
The odds were incredibly low!
Everyone fell silent, staring at the screen and waiting for the result.
A few seconds later, the outcome appeared.
WIN!
TRIPLES!
The room exploded.
“No way!
It actually landed on triples!”
“Good grief!
He really called it!”
“This is insane!”
The classmates stared at Ethan as though he were some legendary master who had descended from the heavens.
Predicting an ordinary outcome might have been luck.
But calling such an unlikely result so confidently?
That was something else entirely!
And Ethan wasn’t finished.
He continued placing bets.
Big.
Big.
Small.
Small.
Then another triple.
Every prediction hit.
The classmates were practically shouting over one another.
Their disbelief gave way to excitement as they watched Ethan win round after round, including two incredibly unlikely triple results.
The commotion spread beyond the private room.
Even members of the gambling group began flooding the chat with confused messages.
Someone was winning far too consistently.
This wasn’t normal!
In a dimly lit room filled with computer screens, the operator running the gambling platform stared at the latest result in disbelief.
“What’s going on?!”
He slammed his hand against the desk.
“How did that last round end in triples?
Didn’t I tell you to set the outcome to big?!”
A technician sitting nearby looked as though he were about to cry.
“B-Boss, I don’t know what happened either!”
He hurriedly checked the system logs, his forehead covered in sweat.
“I followed your instructions and changed the settings!
But somehow, the result displayed on the users’ screens was different.
It’s as though the front-end software malfunctioned!”
The operator’s face turned livid.
A malfunction?
At the worst possible moment?
He stared at the screens, struggling to understand how everything had gone so wrong.
Little did he know that someone far more capable than his entire technical team was interfering with the system.
