Jones, meanwhile, had been hiding in a nearby room, using his X-ray vision to watch Tony’s movements the entire time, until Tony finally reached the cave entrance.
Jones was incredibly grateful that the cave wasn’t a straight passage from one end to the other.
He was also fortunate that Yinsen had told Tony the route out of the cave.
Otherwise, Jones wouldn’t have been able to hide himself.
After confirming that Tony wouldn’t discover him, Jones immediately rushed out of his hiding place and headed straight toward the deepest part of the cave.
His destination was none other than the cave where Tony had previously been imprisoned!
The moment he entered the cave, Jones immediately turned his attention toward the large iron door lying on the ground.
He was extremely familiar with this door.
It was the very same door to the room where Tony had been imprisoned, and Jones had spent half of every day standing outside it for the past three months.
“The door was blown off by the explosion, but its structure hasn’t changed.
It can still be used for defense!
The rock layers inside the cave are very thick, so the cave itself has good defensive properties.
From the entrance to this cave, there are roughly three bends.
One is a ninety-degree turn, while the other two aren’t as sharp, but they can still weaken some of the explosion’s force!”
Muttering softly, Jones lifted the iron door from the ground and repositioned it at the entrance of the cave.
“Whew~~”
After finishing this, Jones couldn’t help letting out a long breath.
“It’s already this difficult just to push this thing across the ground.
Judging from that, this iron door probably weighs at least two hundred pounds.
That’s an unexpected bonus!
Then the next step…
is to reinforce this layer of defense!”
With that thought, Jones turned his gaze toward the edges of the iron door.
His eyes suddenly turned red, and two red beams of heat vision shot out from them!
The next moment, Jones’s heat vision blasted a fist-sized hole into the layer of rock beside the edge of the iron door!
Seeing this, a disappointed expression appeared on Jones’s face.
He fired his heat vision again, enlarging the small hole considerably!
After several more blasts, the fist-sized hole had become roughly the size of a volleyball.
“That should be about enough!”
Muttering softly, Jones turned his gaze toward the other side of the iron door and similarly carved out another volleyball-sized hole.
Then came the top and bottom!
Before long, Jones had created four holes in total, one on each side.
Only then did Jones finally nod in satisfaction and turn around.
Over these three months, Jones had often used his X-ray vision to observe Tony’s movements.
Although his limited knowledge meant he could never understand the principles behind Tony’s Iron Man armor, Jones still knew what Tony had produced.
Tony spent most of his time building the Iron Man armor, but to deceive the Boss, he had also constructed several missile-shaped shells.
Jones’s target this time was precisely those shells that Tony had already discarded!
After laboriously dragging several of the shells over to the iron door, Jones lifted one with all his strength and stuffed it into the hole on the right!
Crouching down and holding the shell in place so it wouldn’t fall, Jones then lifted another shell and stuffed it into the hole on the left!
The next moment, Jones slowly aligned the two shells with each other and then…
activated his heat vision again!
“If Superman knew that the first real use of my heat vision was digging holes and welding things together, he’d probably punch me into the next county!”
Jones laughed self-deprecatingly, but he didn’t dare relax in the slightest.
Whether he could survive this time depended entirely on this!
After simply welding the two shells on the left and right together, Jones began working on the upper and lower holes.
Following the same steps as before, he quickly welded everything together, creating a simple cross-shaped door bolt!
Time was running short.
Jones simply welded the several shells together, then immediately piled every sturdy object remaining in the room against the wall to the right of the iron door!
He wasn’t certain whether the three bends in the cave and this door bolt would be enough to withstand the explosion of the ammunition outside.
If he wanted to survive, he had to make more preparations!
After confirming that he had moved every sturdy object in the room, Jones returned to the door.
He activated his heat vision and began reinforcing the welded joints of the door bolt!
His life was on the line, so Jones didn’t dare be careless in the slightest.
If he was going to do something, he had to do it as well as possible!!
Someone once said that when you’re in an extreme hurry to accomplish something, you’ll find that time passes incredibly quickly.
Jones was experiencing exactly that.
He hadn’t even felt like much time had passed when a tremendous explosion suddenly reached his ears!
Hearing the sound, Jones’s expression changed instantly.
He turned around and rushed toward the shelter he had just constructed!
The moment Jones had hidden himself behind it, a deep, muffled impact came directly from the iron door!
“It’s here!!”
Hearing that sound, Jones’s heart trembled.
He knew exactly what it was.
The shockwave from the explosion had struck the iron door!!
As soon as he heard it, Jones quickly curled his body into a tight position and firmly covered his ears with both hands!
Inside a cave, even the slightest sound would become incredibly loud.
An explosion of this magnitude could absolutely leave Jones deaf if he didn’t protect himself properly!
