Stepping out of the airport, Jones hailed another taxi.
As soon as he sat down, Jones said, “The Daily Bugle, please!”
“Sure!”
Hearing Jones’s destination, the driver nodded and started the car.
“What are you going there for?
Business?”
Unlike the driver in Washington, this driver was noticeably more cheerful.
Once the car started moving, he began chatting with Jones.
“No!”
Jones’s lips curved upward, and a smile appeared on his face.
“I’m just an ordinary person.
What business would I have to discuss?
I’m going there to look for a job!”
“You’re going to work at a newspaper?”
Hearing Jones’s words, the taxi driver actually looked excited.
“So you’re going to become a reporter or an editor?
That’s a pretty good job!
I wanted to become a reporter when I was young, but I just didn’t have the talent for it!”
“I’m only going to give it a try.
After all, I don’t have any experience in this field.
They might reject me for all I know!”
Jones smiled faintly, though a hint of concern appeared in his eyes.
“Don’t worry!”
As though he had noticed Jones’s concern, the driver chuckled and spoke directly.
“I believe you’ll definitely succeed!”
“Then I’ll take your word for it!”
Hearing the driver’s encouragement, a smile also appeared on Jones’s face, and he nodded happily.
For the rest of the journey, the taxi driver kept chatting with Jones.
By the time they arrived at The Daily Bugle, the driver even looked reluctant to part ways, leaving Jones at a loss for words.
Only after the taxi started moving again and gradually disappeared from Jones’s sight did the smile on his face fade.
“An agent?
It should be S.H.I.E.L.D., right?”
The thought flashed through Jones’s mind, and his expression became more serious.
“They prepared everything as soon as I bought the ticket?
They picked me up at the airport and tried to get information out of me?
They’re pretty fast!”
Actually, Jones had already noticed something was wrong with this taxi when he walked out of the airport.
No, it wasn’t just this one.
There had been eight taxis waiting outside the airport, and every single driver was an agent.
Using his X-ray vision, Jones could clearly see the firearms and equipment hidden on their bodies.
So…
Jones immediately started acting like a well-behaved civilian and directly revealed the purpose of his trip.
“When is this life going to end?”
Jones helplessly slapped his forehead.
Then a thought suddenly occurred to him.
“I wonder if they’ll help me get a job too, considering their relationship with Tony?”
The moment the thought appeared, Jones couldn’t help laughing at himself.
Although S.H.I.E.L.D.
clearly valued Tony and had even helped him resolve his identity problem, Jones didn’t think they would go so far as to help him find a job.
However, even if the people from S.H.I.E.L.D.
weren’t willing to help, Jones had his own way of convincing the owner of The Daily Bugle.
After all…
the movies had revealed quite a bit about this man.
…
With a confident smile on his face, Jones walked directly into the offices of The Daily Bugle.
“Hello, sir.
How can I help you?”
As a business-oriented company, The Daily Bugle often had people coming in to place advertisements, so when Jones, a stranger, entered the building, someone immediately came over to greet him.
Unfortunately…
it wasn’t a woman.
Facing this man who would eventually become his colleague, Jones remained very polite.
Narrowing his eyes slightly, he said softly, “I’d like to see your boss.”
“Uh…”
Hearing Jones’s request, the man froze for a moment and immediately assumed Jones had come to discuss some kind of business.
“Sure, but I’ll probably need to let the boss know first.”
“Of course.
Sorry to trouble you.”
Jones nodded lightly and waited nearby.
The Daily Bugle wasn’t particularly powerful as a newspaper, even in New York.
To them, every potential customer was a valuable resource.
Therefore, after assuming from the start that Jones was a customer, the employee quickly arranged for him to meet the owner of The Daily Bugle.
Jonah Jameson.
A man who looked stubborn, had a terrible temper, and wasn’t particularly well-liked, but was definitely a good person.
“Please, have a seat!”
Unlike the sour expression Jameson usually wore when dealing with his employees, he was smiling warmly at this moment.
“Thank you.”
Jones nodded lightly and sat down in front of Jameson’s desk.
The moment Jones’s butt touched the chair, Jameson immediately shouted toward the outside.
“Brown!
Go get this gentleman a cup of coffee.
Move it!”
The moment he finished shouting, Jameson’s expression once again returned to a warm smile.
Turning his attention back to Jones, he spoke politely.
“Sir, what should I call you?
Are you here to place an advertisement?
A missing-person notice?
A job advertisement?
Or perhaps something involving real estate?”
“Uh…”
The corner of Jones’s mouth twitched.
He knew The Daily Bugle wasn’t exactly a major newspaper, but…
did Jameson really take even these kinds of low-value advertisements this seriously?
Jones shook his head lightly.
“Sorry, sir.
Actually…
I’m here to apply for a job!”
“A job?!”
Jameson’s expression instantly changed.
Before Jones could react, Jameson shouted again.
“Brown!
Forget the coffee!
If you’ve already made it, drink it yourself!
And leave the money for the coffee beans!”
