The headmaster’s office.
“Ororo and Jean are going to Boston to bring back the mutant who attacked the President.” “Scott and I are heading to Washington to meet with Eric and see whether he knows anything.” “Once we leave, there won’t be any other teachers remaining at the school.” “Until we return, I want the two of you to look after the students.” Professor X sat in his electric wheelchair as he spoke to Wolverine and Roy.
“Understood, Professor.” Roy and Wolverine answered at the same time.
“All right.
Roy, you can go.
Logan, stay for a moment.” Professor X continued.
Although Professor X didn’t explain why he wanted Wolverine to remain behind, Roy could guess easily enough.
There was no need to ask.
Professor X was obviously going to question Wolverine about whether he had discovered anything during his trip to Alkali Lake.
After leaving the headmaster’s office, Roy didn’t return to the library.
Instead, he went straight back to his dormitory.
Judging from the current situation, William Stryker leading an armed force to attack the school tonight was practically guaranteed.
The only uncertainty was how many men Stryker would bring.
Time passed quickly.
Before long, midnight arrived.
Roy glanced at the alarm clock on his bedside table, climbed out of bed, and began getting dressed.
“What’s wrong?
Going somewhere?” Seeing Roy suddenly get up, Colossus, who shared the dorm room with him, immediately asked.
“I’m hungry.
Going to the kitchen to find something to eat.” Roy casually made up an excuse.
He didn’t know exactly when Stryker’s men would begin their operation.
But he clearly remembered that the attack started only after most of the students had already fallen asleep.
After leaving the dormitory, Roy headed straight toward the kitchen.
Before he reached it, he ran into Wolverine, who was also still awake.
The moment he saw Roy, Wolverine took the initiative to speak.
“How long have you been here?” Wolverine asked.
“A few years.” Although Roy himself had only transmigrated into this world half a month ago, the original owner of this body had arrived at the mutant school several years earlier.
“Your parents sent you here?” Wolverine continued.
“No.
I came here on my own.
Both my parents are already dead.” Roy replied calmly.
Hearing that, Wolverine’s expression immediately changed.
“Sorry.
I didn’t know…” “It’s fine.
I’m used to it.” “I’m going to the kitchen to find something to eat.
Want to come?” Roy asked.
“Sure.” Wolverine replied quickly.
When they reached the kitchen, Roy had expected to find only Iceman there.
Instead, besides Iceman, Rogue, Clarice, and Lorna were also present.
Why are they all here?
Roy looked at the three girls in confusion.
Before he could say anything, Lorna spoke first.
“We’re about to go watch a horror movie in the media room.
Want to come?” Staying up in the middle of the night just to watch a horror movie?
Hearing her answer, not only Roy but Wolverine also frowned in confusion.
“We originally planned to hold a test of courage.” “But there aren’t any particularly scary places around the school, so we changed the plan.” “We’re going to watch horror movies at midnight and see which of us three is the bravest.” Rogue quickly explained.
Uh… Roy and Wolverine both shook their heads helplessly.
A test of courage wasn’t anything particularly unusual.
It was a traditional Japanese game where participants tested their courage by entering frightening places or acting alone, usually on summer nights.
“I’m just here to find something to eat.” Even if William Stryker wasn’t going to attack the school tonight, Roy still had no interest in participating in a so-called test of courage.
“Then forget it.” With that, Rogue, Clarice, and Lorna gathered up a large pile of snacks and left the kitchen.
Watching them leave, Roy turned toward Iceman, who was eating ice cream.
“You’re not going?” “It’s a girls-only activity.
I’ll pass.” Iceman answered immediately.
The moment he finished speaking, Wolverine’s voice sounded.
“There any beer in here?” Wolverine stared into a refrigerator containing nothing but milk and chocolate drinks.
“This is a school.” Roy replied.
Even if this weren’t a school, there probably wouldn’t be beer in the kitchen anyway.
The reason was simple.
The legal drinking age in the United States was twenty-one.
“There’s soda in that cabinet.” Iceman pointed toward a nearby cupboard.
Soda obviously wasn’t beer, but compared to milk and chocolate drinks, Wolverine would rather have that.
He took out a bottle of soda and opened it immediately.
Then, as though suddenly remembering something, he handed the bottle to Iceman.
The moment Iceman saw Wolverine offer it to him, he understood.
He took the soda and blew lightly over the mouth of the bottle.
In an instant, the drink became ice-cold.
“Thanks.” Wolverine took the soda back and spoke quickly.
“No problem.” Iceman replied.
After taking a sip of the chilled soda, Wolverine turned toward Roy, who was eating potato chips.
“The Professor told me you’re interested in close combat.” “Yeah.
My ability is more suited to fighting at close range.” Roy replied calmly.
“Jean and Ororo might not be back by tomorrow afternoon.” “If they aren’t, let me see what you can do during practical combat class.” Wolverine continued.
“Sure.” Roy immediately agreed.
That was what he said, but he knew there probably wouldn’t be any practical combat class tomorrow afternoon.
Just as Wolverine was about to say something else, his expression suddenly changed.
He had heard a faint sound of someone collapsing.
The relaxed look on his face disappeared instantly as he stood up.
Roy hadn’t heard anything himself, but the moment he saw Wolverine’s reaction, he immediately understood.
William Stryker’s men were inside!
Without hesitation, Roy put down the chips in his hand and stood, heading toward the kitchen door.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing both Roy and Wolverine rise at the same time, Iceman asked in confusion.
“Shh.” Wolverine gestured for him to be quiet.
Then he turned toward Roy.
“You noticed it too?” “Yeah.” Roy nodded.
Iceman still hadn’t noticed anything, but even he realized something was wrong.
“Someone’s inside the school.
Go find Rogue and the others immediately.
I’ll get Peter and Kitty.” Roy told Iceman.
“Okay!” Iceman immediately replied.
“What are you two planning to do?” Wolverine stopped Roy and Iceman as they were about to leave the kitchen.
“Someone broke into the school.
What do you think?” Roy replied.
“I’ll handle it.” Wolverine said quickly.
“I’m an X-Man too.” With that, Roy was the first to leave the kitchen.
