Hulk paused for a second, glancing back at him before baring his teeth in a furious roar.
Unburdened by worry for the helicopter, the green giant’s assault turned wildly aggressive, pounding Abomination with heavy fists that forced the creature back step by step.
Seizing the opportunity, Peter darted to the helicopter and began dragging the injured, unconscious soldiers out one by one.
But right at that moment, Abomination was sent flying by a brutal blow from Hulk, crashing hard into an adjacent building.
Once it regained its footing, its crimson eyes swept across the fleeing crowd, gleaming with ferocious malice.
It seized the chained wrecking ball from the ground, wound up its arm, and hurled it forcefully toward the crowd!
“Watch out!” Peter’s spider-sense screamed wildly in his mind, cold sweat breaking out across his back in an instant.
Pushing off the ground, he rocketed forward like an arrow released from a bow string.
The chain whistled through the air, grazing his back before crashing onto the pavement, showering the area in shattered rock.
Seeing that it had missed, Abomination let out an enraged bellow and swung a massive fist straight at him.
Relying on his nimble reflexes, Peter dodged continuously, weaving through the openings in Abomination’s onslaught.
He knew his raw strength was far inferior to the monster’s; going head-to-head was sheer suicide.
The earlier shock had cracked one of his web-shooters.
Dodging another heavy blow from Abomination, Peter vaulted onto the monster’s forearm, using his momentum to land a punch right in Abomination’s gut.
With a dull thud, Abomination staggered back slightly, but Peter fared little better—the impact left his fist numb, and the damaged shooter on his wrist ruptured completely.
A massive surge of webbing spurted out at once, gluing his arm firmly to Abomination’s torso.
“Damn it!” Peter’s heart sank.
Glancing down at the “little bug” stuck to its chest, Abomination’s gaze turned even fiercer, and its free hand came swatting down with crushing force.
In the split second of peril, his mind raced.
Utilizing the elasticity of the webbing, he leaped back to dodge the huge palm while wrapping around Abomination’s arms, using the overflowing web fluid to bind both of the monster’s arms firmly against its chest.
But this wouldn’t hold long.
Abomination’s power was terrifying, and the webbing was already snapping with audible cracks.
He had to finish this fast!
Peter’s eyes narrowed.
Using the pull of the remaining webs, he leaped onto Abomination’s shoulder.
Aiming his remaining functional web-shooter straight at the monster’s nostrils and mouth, he pulled the trigger repeatedly.
Thick blasts of webbing shot forth, sealing Abomination’s airway completely.
With that done, he snapped the webs tethering him, pushed off the monster, flipped back a dozen meters through the air, and landed securely on his feet.
Abomination thrashed wildly, its massive fingers clawing frantically at the webbing covering its face.
But its fingers were too thick to dig into its airways.
The more panicked it became, the faster it depleted its remaining oxygen.
Its gigantic body swayed, its movements growing sluggish.
A few seconds later, its eyes rolled back into its head, and it collapsed to the pavement with a thunderous crash, completely unconscious.
The battlefield fell silent in an instant.
The surrounding soldiers and newly arrived police officers stared dumbfounded at the red-clad figure in the center of the street.
No one had expected this masked stranger to actually defeat such a horrifying monster.
General Ross stepped forward with brisk strides, his sharp gaze sizing him up before asking in a deep voice, “Who are you?” Peter panted, steadying his wild breathing and settling his churning blood.
Looking around at the shaken crowd and the smoldering ruins in the distance, his mind felt clearer than ever before.
From the moment he chose to step up, Peter’s old life was over.
From now on, he was Spider-Man.
“I’m Spider-Man.” Leaving behind those words, he raised his wrist, shot a web at the nearby roof, and swung off into the night sky.
Leaving behind only a devastated battlefield and a crowd stunned beyond belief.
Fifteen minutes later, in a secluded alleyway.
Peter changed back into his street clothes, stuffed the makeshift suit into his backpack, and tossed it into the burning wreckage of a nearby car.
Every trace was swallowed by the flames, leaving nothing behind.
When he found Mary Jane, she was pacing frantically with anxiety.
The moment she saw him return unscathed, she threw herself into his arms.
“Where did you go?!
I was worried sick!” “Just helped out a few people,” Peter offered a slight smile, brushing it off lightly.
“Oh, by the way, some masked guy in red showed up and took down the monster.
Everyone was calling him…
Spider-Man.” Mary Jane blinked, staring at him for a few seconds.
She didn’t pry for details, merely letting out a soft huff.
“Fine, you win.
Just don’t go running off like that ever again.” On the train ride back, Mary Jane leaned against his shoulder and whispered softly, “Peter, you were really brave today.” Peter gazed out the window at the city lights rushing past, the corners of his mouth curving upward.
He used to think that being a hero was a choice.
Only today did he realize that certain paths were already carved out the moment you gained power.
With great power comes great responsibility.
His journey as Spider-Man had only just begun.
What he didn’t know was that following this battle in Harlem, the name “Spider-Man” had already quietly appeared on SHIELD’s watch list.
