5 – “Fed by President Huo?”
Interesting.
Lu Cheng curled his lips, thinking, looks like work is coming!
At this moment, Huo Yuzhou’s expression showed no change, he merely gave a light rub to the wedding ring on his finger.
After a moment, he finally said, “Have Tang Qi send over the filming contract.”
Sooner or later, she’d need to get involved in the base’s affairs anyway—might as well use this opportunity to let her test the waters.
He Chuan smiled. He knew this move might work, but he honestly hadn’t expected it to go this smoothly!
Half a month passed.
Song Yuan hadn’t seen Huo Yuzhou even once, which suited her just fine. Neither of them interfered in the other’s life.
For Song Yuan, it was just a piece of paper.
The marriage itself had been entirely arranged by Elder Song. Huo Yuzhou never showed his face in financial magazine interviews, keeping all news about himself under wraps. Song Yuan had only ever heard of his reputation as “Third Master Huo.”
On their wedding night, they’d actually spent the night together.
That was also the first time Song Yuan had met him face to face—and by “face,” she meant something else entirely.
“What time is it now?”
Hearing the door push open, Su Hua looked up at the tardy Song Yuan. “Why are you only getting here now?”
Song Yuan glanced down at her watch. “Nine ninety.”
“Not even ten yet.”
Su Hua chuckled at her forced excuse. “You’ve had a good half-month of rest, haven’t you?”
Song Yuan closed the door behind her and settled onto the sofa. “My current state? Five words: full of energy and spirit.”
Su Hua teased with a laugh, “Fed by CEO Huo?”
Song Yuan scoffed at that. “Him?”
“Skip one meal with him and I’ll live a few years longer.”
Su Hua heard her complaint, her eyes glinting with playful amusement. “I thought you dressed up so nicely today because you’d just come from his place.”
Song Yuan gave an awkward smile. “Rushing to throw myself into a wolf’s mouth?”
“I’m not that desperate yet.”
Besides, she didn’t have time to lie in bed recuperating.
Su Hua couldn’t quite figure out her marriage to Huo Yuzhou, and didn’t dare speculate too much. She just smiled and let it go. She pulled out a prepared contract and placed it on the coffee table.
“We got a spot on Director Tang’s variety show.”
“Once you sign here, you’ll need to head to the filming location tonight.”
Song Yuan picked up the black pen and signed without even looking, then asked Su Hua, “Where do I report?”
Su Hua, tucking the contract away, replied, “Director Tang said the filming location can’t be disclosed. A private car will pick you up at five in the afternoon.”
Song Yuan raised an eyebrow. “So secretive?”
Su Hua had been puzzled at first too, but a bit of gossip had eased her doubts. “I heard—just heard—that the filming location is some big capital boss’s private estate.”
“Why don’t you ask your husband? He’s the top dog in the capital circle, after all.”
Song Yuan figured asking Huo Yuzhou would be worse than not asking at all. “Forget it, I’m not that curious.”
If she asked him, wouldn’t she have to sell herself?
A cunning, ruthless capitalist like Huo Yuzhou—unless he got his fill, there was no way he’d let it go!
Su Hua smiled and shook her head lightly. “Fine then. Go home and pack up a bit. I’ll come pick you up.”
Song Yuan acknowledged and headed out, taking the elevator straight down to the underground garage. She walked over to that flashy scarlet Ferrari, opened the door, and sat down. Remembering what Su Hua had said about some private estate, she paused abruptly.
In a capital circle as big as Kyoto’s, not many people had private estates—that kind of investment was no joke.
She felt like something was off. She pulled out her phone from her bag and made a call.
The other end picked up quickly, the voice impatient. “Spit it out!”
Song Yuan frowned. “Don’t think just because you’re far away now, I can’t reach you!”
Song Qi heard the voice, lifted his phone to check the caller ID, and realized it was his sister. He immediately dropped his earlier attitude. “How could I? You can’t reach me, but Huo Yuzhou sure lays it on thick when he hits me.”
If it weren’t for the old man seeing he was about to become a useless waste, he wouldn’t have had Huo Yuzhou drag him into the base to toughen him up.
“So, what do you want?”
Song Yuan didn’t beat around the bush. “I heard you’re filming a variety show there?”
Song Qi was startled. “At our place? When? Does that mean some female celebrities will be coming in? Sis, you have no idea—your little brother’s practically turned into a monk out here. How does Huo Yuzhou manage to hold out—”
Click!
The call ended.
Song Qi was baffled. Couldn’t she at least let him finish before hanging up?
Every single time!
Did she really think he was some harmless kitten just because he hadn’t shown his claws?
“Get up!”
Song Qi, still staring at the ceiling lost in thought, suddenly felt a sharp kick to his calf.
He Chuan set the takeout he’d brought on the table. “Eat!”
Song Qi rubbed his sore calf for a moment before saying, “Bro, isn’t it a bit early?”
He Chuan looked up at him. “Didn’t you specifically ask for Crane Tower’s fried rice?”
“Or should I personally serve it to you in front of Third Brother when it’s mealtime?”
Song Qi’s face instantly broke into a grin. “I knew Brother Chuan was the best to me.”
If he were to give him special treatment right in front of Huo Yuzhou, forget about eating—he’d run ten kilometers on an empty stomach just to cover the basics, and who knows what kind of trouble would come after.
Besides, that shot really was his mistake. Huo Yuzhou still hadn’t come after him for it, and one day he might just hit him with something big!
He Chuan, cigarette clamped between his lips, sat on the sofa without a word.
Song Qi grabbed a stool from the side, sat down, and flipped open the takeout container. The familiar smell hit him—goddamn, it smelled good. He scooped up a big mouthful with his spoon and shoved it in.
After a moment, something occurred to him, and he asked He Chuan, “Brother Chuan, I heard our base is going to shoot a variety show. Is that real or not?”
He Chuan crushed the nearly spent cigarette butt into the ashtray and glanced at him. “Crazy for women or something?”
“A variety show? Does your brother-in-law need that kind of money?”
Song Qi went along with it. “That’s what I said—no way. I don’t know where Song Yuan heard that rumor.”
He Chuan listened to him mutter those words, lowered his eyelids to mask the emotion in his eyes, let it pass in a flash, then returned to normal. “Calling her by her full name? Not afraid your brother-in-law will hear and come after you?”
The moment Song Qi heard about potential trouble, he immediately backed down. “Fine, forget I said anything.”
With that, he went back to eating his fried rice.
He Chuan didn’t stick around long either. Before leaving, he still remembered to remind him, “When you’re done, make sure you clean everything up properly.”
If anyone else found out he’d given him special treatment, who knows what kind of scene they’d make in front of Huo Yuzhou.
Song Qi nodded repeatedly. “Got it, got it.”
Base Chief’s Office.
“I didn’t let any word slip to Song Qi. That kid’s got no real scheming besides loving to have fun—didn’t even need to coax him, he spilled it all on his own.”
“But the sister-in-law is pretty sharp. Hard to guard against.”
As he said this, He Chuan couldn’t help but joke, “If she finds out this is your turf and turns around to leave, what are you going to do?”
Huo Yuzhou’s gaze pressed down darkly. “Whatever needs to be done, I’ll do it.”
“But once she’s here, leaving won’t be that easy.”
