Being an adventurer had already become my day-to-day life.
Nothing glamorous about it—just another shift in the dungeon.
I'm Sato Koichi, and today I was grinding away as usual in one corner of the middle floors. Right in front of me, three monsters with the charging power of wild boars—[Rush Boars]. Most adventurers would have a rough time handling them.
But me? I don't fight them head-on.
First move: I dropped a [Sticky Floor Trap] right into the charge path, using my [Skill: Rearrangement (Change)]. One boar barreled straight in and got stuck, its legs dragging like it'd hit glue.
Next move: I set a switch between the other two, rigged to trigger a [Falling Rock Trap] from the ceiling. The confused pair slammed into each other, stumbled, and—click. Cue self-destruction.
Last one: the immobilized boar. I strolled up at a safe distance and finished it with my short sword.
Flawless execution.
I pocketed the [magic stone] and the tusks—good resale value—stuffing them into my pack. Honestly, my handiwork was reaching artisan-level efficiency. Another day's pay secured. I was already turning toward the next area, satisfied, when—
"Kyahhh!"
A sharp, desperate scream rang out from deeper in the passage.
...Ugh. Trouble. Exactly what I avoided. That's my policy.
But the cry was so raw, so panicked, I knew I'd feel gross ignoring it. With a long, heavy sigh, I crept toward the sound.
The passage opened into a chamber. And there she was—a girl, cornered by a monster.
The monster: a towering [Guardian Golem], easily three meters tall. A walking boulder, its stone plating tough enough that most attacks wouldn't even scratch it.
The girl: maybe late teens, hair tied up in buns, cheap leather armor clinging to her. No weapon in sight, just running in blind circles.
"Stay back, stay back!" she squealed, scrambling as the golem's massive hand nearly closed around her. Any second now, she'd be flattened.
...Yeah, no way I could walk off after seeing that.
I ducked behind cover, scanning the golem and the layout. Calm. Precise. Got it.
With a flick, I activated [Skill: Rearrangement (Change)].
Step one: relocate the [Oil Pool Trap] switch from the wall to right under the golem's feet. Its massive stone leg hit the slick patch, slipping. It crashed down to one knee.
Step two: drag over a [Flamethrower Trap] from the far wall, plant it right in front of the staggering beast.
Chain reaction—oil met fire, flames roared, and the room shook as the golem's whole body went red-hot before crumbling into pieces.
The girl collapsed on the spot, relief pouring out in her voice.
"Th-that was so close..."
Perfect chance for me to ghost. I turned on my heel, ready to vanish before she noticed.
But it's too late.
"Um—excuse me!" Her voice cut through, and she ran straight toward me.
Crap. Found out.
"That just now... how did you do that? You... you saved me, didn't you?"
Her wide eyes sparkled up at me, bright and painfully sincere.
I scratched my head, unable to brush it off with a simple "nah, coincidence."
Guess I'd just dragged myself into something way more troublesome than I wanted.
