6 – Chapter 6
“Is this road yours? Can’t I walk on it?”
“Hey! Hey!! Hey!! Please wait for me, please wait a little longer!”
She ran all the way out of the mall, frantically shouting at the bus that was pulling away.
But the bus driver seemed to have not heard her at all, and the vehicle had already moved quite a distance ahead.
She chased halfway, but the bus was speeding up and she simply couldn’t catch up.
Disappointed, she stood still, hands on her knees, head down, gasping for air.
Why her again?
Every time he saw her, she seemed to be in such a hurry—first fighting him for a cab, and now chasing after a bus.
When would she ever calm down?
Watching that small figure from behind, he didn’t even notice the subtle curve forming at the corner of his lips, a meaningful smile he hadn’t intended.
After just a few seconds of watching, he turned and headed toward his own car.
“Hey!”
He had only taken a few steps when he heard her voice from behind again.
He instinctively turned to look.
“Hey… it really is you.” Cheng Lin hadn’t expected to run into him here of all places.
Once she confirmed it was really him, she quickly ran over, stood in front of him catching her breath, trying her best not to look too disheveled. After a moment to compose herself, she looked at him and asked, “What are you doing here?”
She was still panting heavily as she spoke.
Because of her frantic run, a few strands of hair were stuck to her forehead, which was covered in a thin layer of sweat.
It wasn’t hard to imagine she’d just run quite a distance.
“What?” Fu Siyu said. “Is this road yours? Can’t I be here?”
“No… that’s not what I meant. I just think it’s such a coincidence—yesterday we met at the airport, and now we run into each other here again. We must be pretty fated.”
“Uh…” Who’s fated with her?
“Oh…” His voice was still as cold as ice.
“Um…” Cheng Lin thought that if she hadn’t witnessed his kind-hearted side before, she might really freeze to death under his icy demeanor right now.
“Anything else?”
She instinctively shook her head.
“Then goodbye…”
With that, he turned and continued walking back to his car.
Cheng Lin stood there stunned, watching him get in, close the door, and drive away.
The car had already moved forward a bit and was waiting at a red light when he happened to see her in the rearview mirror, looking in his direction with a furrowed brow, looking utterly pitiful.
Like a little child lost on the streets.
Fu Siyu kept watching the rearview mirror and noticed that she didn’t even try to hail a cab—instead, she headed in another direction.
Over there were rows of shared bicycles, all public ones that could be ridden by scanning a QR code.
She… didn’t she know she could just take a cab back?
How long would it take to bike from here back to the university town?
It had to be at least ten-plus kilometers, right? Riding a bike would take hours.
What time was it now? Past ten at night—didn’t she want to get back to her dorm?
Before he even realized why he was thinking about all this, his actions had already outpaced his thoughts—he had already reversed the car back.
He pulled up beside her.
She had just scanned the code to unlock the bike when she felt a car stop next to her.
She instinctively looked down into the car.
It was him…
“You… why did you come back?”
Did she drop something?
“Get in.”
“Huh?”
“I said get in the car,” Fu Siyu said. “You don’t want to go back to school, do you?”
She shook her head rapidly.
“Then get in.”
“You… wait a moment…”
