The trio overlooked the camp; its energy had died down. There were still fires under the cooking pots. But no one was feeding them. Some guards stand at the camp's entrance. Risa played around with the small dagger they got her from the crossbowman's corpse, her staff in her inventory. Mia also had her shield stored in her inventory, holding only her sword. Frenley was the only one wearing his original equipment, with the sole addition of torches hanging from his waist. Sadly, the system didn't allow them to put the torches in the inventory, or anything that wasn't theirs, really, for even the dagger couldn't be placed in the inventory.
Sadly, they didn't have spare light clothing for Mia, so the tall Latina woman was still wearing her half-plate armor. The biggest problem with their sneaking plan. Their second biggest problem is that they didn't have much experience in sneaking into places. Frenley looked at the girls once more.
“Alright now or never, y'all ready?”
“As ready as I will ever be, love.”
“Ready.” Said the kitsune.
“Alright, let's get this show on the road.”
“He really likes saying that,” Mia said as she leaned in to whisper into Risa's ear.
The fox woman shivered a bit as the soft, hot breath of the Latina woman tickled the fur of her ears. But nonetheless, she nodded her head. The girls followed Frenley out of the forest. With careful steps, a body low to the ground, they slowly made their way to the wooden wall of the encampment. But calling it a wall is doing it a service, for it was nothing more than wooden logs stuck into the ground with pointed ends.
A shitty job from people who didn't have much experience in making fortifications. Frenley nodded to Mia, and the two of them grabbed one of the logs. The two of them, carefully and with Risa keeping watch. Pulled the log out of the ground and lay on the ground. Sweat rolling down their bodies as their muscles ache. Frenley had the suspicion they were able to do this only thanks to their improved body stats.
With the way clear, the trio entered the camp and slowly walked towards the closest tent. Mia tries to move as slowly as she can, not wanting her metal armor to make any noise. Risa and Frenley arrived at the tent's entrance. Risa poked her head into the tent. Doing two simple things with her hand. Frenley touched her back, and the girl entered the tent, Frenley a step behind her.
Frenley tries to keep his surprise down, for the two soldiers seem to have fallen asleep after having sex. Cuddling up to each other and sleeping peacefully. Frenley positioned himself next to the guy, and Risa next to the girl. They looked at each other, and the moment Fren nodded his head, the lives of the couple were extinguished. Their blades pierce the heads of the sleeping couple. Red, fresh blood stained their pillows and sleeping bags.
Frenley tries to ignore the truth that these people weren't really humans. But it was hard to do, given every action they take that humanizes them. The duo walked out of the tent after cleaning their weapons on the blanket. The group continues to make their way from tent to tent at the edges of the camp. Reaping lives before they even knew what was going on. The only times things got tense were when there were more than three people in a tent.
But quick thinking and improvisation have allowed them to kill around forty people. There was still more than enough time in the night, but the anxiety and stress of not being seen was starting to wear them down. But time waits for no one as the trio moves to the next step of the plan. Moving to the tents away from the walls.
Frenley hid behind a tent, looking at the new target. A group of tents, four in total, surrounded a still-alive campfire. Frenley prepared himself to dash towards the closest tent. After making sure the way was clear, he rushed towards the tent. But not entering it, hiding, and making sure the way was still clear. He looked at the girls, ready to give the signal, but stopped as he felt movement.
From the opposite tent, someone came out of it. A soldier, half-dressed and scratching his stomach. The soldier started walking towards them because the path they were on was the faster way to reach the wall. Frenley wished he could click his tongue, but he held back as he signaled the girls to back away. Frenley took a couple of steps away from the edge, hiding behind the tent as the soldier got closer.
His palm became sweaty as he held his sword tightly. Soon, the soldier's shadow came into view, and Frenley tensed up. The man came into view, his eyes still half closed as he took a few steps away from Frenley. Before something clicks in his mind, and he stops. Frenley moved before he could turn. Wrapping his arm around the man’s mouth and driving his sword through his back.
The tip of his sword is coming out of the man’s chest. Blood drains from the man as he tries to fight Frenley off. But Frenley holds him as much as he could. The muffled sound of the fighting felt like church bells. Frenley didn't know if the man's muffled sounds were louder than his increasing heartbeat. After a few seconds of fighting, the man stopped moving. Fren slowly put the man’s dead body down. Before dragging its body behind the tent.
Frenley stays close to the body, its body heat slowly leaving and constantly reminding Fren that he took a life. Each second that no one moved or an alarm didn't sound was another second that allowed Frenley to calm down. But the gods wouldn't allow it. From the tent Frenley was hiding behind, he heard movement, and two female soldiers emerged. Looking around as if looking for something.
‘Fuck! Plan B!’
Frenley looked at the still-hiding girls and pointed to the torches on his hips. Both nodded, but he noticed their faces lacked some color. He heard the soft whispers of the female soldiers as they walked. With one last deep breath, Frenley rushed out from behind the tent. Running after the two girls as they turn to look at the source of the noise.
Frenley tackles one of them into the ground, punching her in the face with his left hand before standing up and crushing her windpipe. The other female guard screams with rage as she charges Fren. He dodges her frantic attack and cuts her stomach open. Her guts spilled onto the floor, as she held them tightly, and blood left her body in gallons. The sound of people waking up surrounded him, but the sound of two footsteps rushing towards him brought him peace.
Frenley grabbed one of his torches and lit it. Holding it for the first person to come, which turns out to be Mia. The tall woman's fingers brush against his as she grabs the torch and throws it into a tent. The cloth began to burn as the figures emerged from it. Three soldiers. Risa grabbed the second torch and threw it into another tent. Frenley lit the third torch and threw it into a faraway tent. With three tents on fire and a trio of soldiers coming towards them. The party didn't look at their soldiers as they ran towards the opposite end of the camp, where they had made the hole in the wall.
Frenley turns around as he shoots his season bolt at the still-alive campfire. The bolt of magic flew by their pursuers. The moment the magic hit the fire, a large explosion occurred. The fiery explosion spread the flames further, as more people started to wake up. The fire started to spread as an alarm was sounded. The trio ran with all they could muster, Mia having her shield back in her hand, Risa ditching the dagger and having her staff in her hand.
As the party ran, one of the tents in their path opened. A soldier with a war hammer blocked their way as it aimed a devastating blow towards Mia. The tall woman stopped, dug her feet into the ground, and blocked the attack with her shield. Her arms were shaking from the after shock. Frenley came behind Mia and pierced the armpit of the badly dressed soldier. Blood gushed out of the wound as a major artery was hit, but the soldier didn't have to wait long before dying, as Mia cracked its head open with a sword attack.
“Babes! Behind us!”
Risa's scream of panic made the duo turn around. Their quick battle had allowed enough time for a group of 8 people to reach them. They were badly dressed but were armed. Frenley got ready to support Risa, but from one of the side tents, another soldier emerged. One holding a sharp dagger, aiming straight at Mia. Without a second thought, Fren shot his magic at the man, his head exploding as his magic bolt hit. Blood and gore rain over the uncaring Mia as she rushes to the frontline to protect the silver-haired woman.
“Sweetheart! Love! Blow those fucking tents up!” Mia scream at the top of her lungs.
“On it!”
“Yes, ma’am!”
Risa shot a moonlight shard into the tent where the dagger soldier came out. Claiming the life of another soldier inside of it. Frenley's magic hit two soldiers at the same time. The rain of blood and gore that came when two chests exploded was too grotesque to even describe. Frenley will turn his attention to Mia.
“Babe! Behind you!”
Risa's warning came right on time as he turned around and blocked a spear attack aimed at him. The fey pushed the man’s spear away before shooting him point-blank with a bolt of magic. Frenley didn't take time to register the death as he pushed it away and met the attack of a swordsman. Three more soldiers are coming towards him from a distance.
Frenley let go of his block as he bent his knees and lowered his center of gravity. The man didn't get to deliver his attack as his chest was pierced by a moonlight shard. He pushed the body to the side as he rushed the upcoming three soldiers. Frenley swung his sword at the closest soldier, cutting a line straight from the waist to the shoulder. The pain sap away the soldier's strength, causing him to fall down to his knees.
Frenley kicked the man’s head to the side as he blocked the attack from its allies. Both soldiers used swords, and their combined strength was slowly pushing Frenley down. Frenley gathered his strength as he pushed the swordsman away. With a quick roll backward, he grabbed his pouch and pulled out his magic potion. He drank it in seconds, and once he felt his magic filled up, he shot a season bolt at one of the soldiers. Blowing off its left leg and causing it to fall to the ground.
The soft scream of the woman he liked getting hurt echoed behind him, giving the fey enough strength and energy to parry the sword attack from the last soldier. Before ending its life by cutting its head from its neck. But more soldiers were coming towards him. His heart beat faster and faster as he shot another magic bolt towards the upcoming group. Killing another soldier and now officially out of magic.
“Dear, everything okay!?” Mia's panicked voice cut through the sounds of battle.
“I am good! Focus on your fight!”
“Babe, I got you!”
“Thank yo-”
Frenley tones out the girls as he focuses on the halberd user who has reached him. The woman swung her weapon with great strength at his head. Frenley knew he could not block that blade, so he rushed forward, not caring as the blade pierced his shoulder and hacked into his flesh and bone. His left arm went limp as the woman pulled the blade off his body.
Frenley pierced the woman's right leg and then pushed his sword to the side. Cutting the leg wide open and causing her to fall to her knee. But the fey could not capitalize on the weakness, as a hammer-wielding soldier reached him and aimed to attack the side of Frenley's head. Forcing Frenley to lean backward for the hammer to miss. Then, a quick dodge to the side as a spear tried to pierce him. Frenley rolled backward again, trying to get space to drink his healing potion. But the hammer user reaches him as it delivers another attack, but thankfully, a flying moon shard pierces the man’s arms. This caused him to lose all strength in his arms.
This gave Frenley enough time to drink his healing potion. As his arm healed, he rushed the screaming hammer soldier. Cutting its head before turning to look at the spearman, who was now joined by two swordsmen and an archer. But none of them were attacking him; in fact, they weren't even looking at him. Frenley fought the urge to look back, but once his ears picked up the fact that no more combact was going on. He turns his head. Only for his eyes to meet the figure of a giant white pelt fox. Who has entered the camp in its moment of weakness.
The beast was eating away at the bodies in the fire of resurrection, its teeth red with blood, pieces of flesh stuck between its large, savage teeth. The soldiers they were fighting began rushing at the giant beast. Leaving the trio with their own rough breaths and beating hearts.
“I take it that is the boss…”
“Tactical retreat?” Risa ask while looking at her party.
Frenley didn't answer as he looked at the magnificent beast eating and ripping apart the many soldiers that came to attack it. He was only brought back to reality when Mia slapped his back.
"Love, we have to go!"
"Fuck you are right.. let's go!"
Like that, the group turned around and ran out of the battle like their lives depended on it.
