The moment Fu Haoyan got home, he grabbed the package and headed straight for the study.

Lei Shaoxin noticed his urgency and felt a flicker of curiosity, but she didn’t ask. Instead, she opened the fridge, took out some cherries, and began washing them at the kitchen sink.

Inside the study, Fu Haoyan opened the package and spread out the documents.Full novel: Mr. Fu, I Heard Your Wife Is Getting Engaged To Someone Else — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

They detailed everything Lei Shaoxin had gone through during the two years he had been back in Hong Kong—her life in Weigelan. Some of it had already been sent to him by A Le via email.

A thin stack of papers, yet it recorded so much of her life—mostly medical reports.

He picked up a cigarette from the desk, lit it, and took a deep drag.

From the drawer, he pulled out another set of documents—results from A-Feng’s earlier investigation into Zhuosheng Group and Lei Real Estate.

Aside from shady business dealings, nothing connected them to Xu Yuqiao’s suicide.

Could it really be that Lei Jiu and He Zhuosheng had nothing to do with it?

He made a call. It was answered quickly.

“A Le, I got the package. Come back.”

There was hesitation on the other end.

“Brother Yan… I think I should stay a bit longer. I’ll come back later.”

Fu Haoyan immediately caught the tone.

“What’s wrong?”

“I suspect Miss Lei’s mother’s death wasn’t that simple.”

It was something A Le had stumbled upon by accident. He hadn’t planned to report it yet—he wanted to confirm it first.

“Be careful,” Fu Haoyan said.

He hung up, his brows tightly furrowed, and crushed the cigarette in the ashtray.

Meanwhile, Lei Shaoxin had been busy for days at Fu Corporation, conducting assistant interviews.

HR had filtered another batch of resumes and scheduled interviews.

She arrived early that morning, flipping through the files on her desk.

One resume caught her eye—it was someone she had marked the day before. A graduate from Weigelan University’s finance program, three years her senior.

Weigelan University—one of the top institutions, renowned for finance.

If she hadn’t taken a leave of absence, she might still be living a carefree campus life.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

Candidates began arriving one by one.

After several days of interviews, Lei Shaoxin finally made her decision.

The HR director personally sent the selected candidate, Ye Shiyao, up to the executive office.

Ye Shiyao had long heard of Fu Haoyan’s reputation—decisive and formidable.

Guided by the assistant, she stepped into the office, a little nervous.

She handed her resume to Fu Haoyan with both hands. His expression remained cold as he accepted it.

Facing such an imposing man, she didn’t dare look directly at him. Nervously, she began,

“Mr. Fu, my name is Ye Shiyao. I graduated from Weigelan University—”

Before she could finish, Lei Shaoxin walked over, took her hand, and interrupted gently,

“He’s not your boss.”

Fu Haoyan countered,

“But her salary is paid by Fu Corporation.”

Lei Shaoxin shot him a look. He immediately fell silent and lowered his head to read the resume.

Ye Shiyao didn’t quite understand their relationship, but she noticed the subtle change—there was a hint of a smile on his face now, and far less pressure in the air.

The two women sat down on the sofa.

Lei Shaoxin explained simply,

“You’re not Mr. Fu’s assistant—you’re mine. You’re also my senior, so just call me Shaoxin.”

Ye Shiyao nodded.

Lei Shaoxin led her out and showed her to her desk, sending her files about Lei Corporation as they walked.

“Come with me to Lei Corporation tomorrow. Review these first—you can head home after. A-Feng will pick you up in the morning.”

“Understood,” Ye Shiyao replied.

After introducing her to A-Feng, Ye Shiyao quickly went through the materials. With her strong finance background, it didn’t take long.

She left Fu Corporation shortly after.

The next day, A-Feng picked her up first. They waited in the car outside the villa for Lei Shaoxin.

From A-Feng, Ye Shiyao learned that Shaoxin and Mr. Fu were a couple. Thinking back to the scene in the office yesterday, she couldn’t help but chuckle.

Just then, the car door opened—Lei Shaoxin got in.

Ye Shiyao immediately composed herself.

As they drove, Lei Shaoxin briefly explained her relationship with Lei Corporation.

Ye Shiyao was sharp—she grasped the situation quickly.

When they arrived, A-Feng stayed in the car while Ye Shiyao followed Lei Shaoxin into the elevator.

Knowing that Lei Corporation was holding its annual summary meeting that day, Lei Shaoxin headed straight for the main conference room.

She pushed the door open and walked in. The meeting hadn’t started yet, but she immediately spotted several familiar faces.

Including He Zhuosheng.

Even after the financial scandal—and despite her deliberately driving a wedge between them—He Zhuosheng and Lei Jiu were still chatting and laughing as if nothing had happened.

She remembered what Fu Haoyan once said: showing mercy to your enemies is being cruel to yourself.

This time, she decided to let go of that lingering softness.

In business, only benefit matters—nothing else.

Lei Shaoxin walked straight up to Lei Jiu.

“Chairman Lei, I hold 16% of Lei Corporation. Don’t I at least deserve an invitation to the annual meeting?”

Her tone and expression made it clear—she wasn’t here to play nice.

Lei Jiu shot a glance around the room. The directors and He Zhuosheng immediately got the hint and filed out.

Lowering his voice, Lei Jiu said with a hint of warning,

“Shaoxin, no matter how upset you are, don’t treat Lei Corporation like a joke.”

She smiled faintly.

“How could I? My surname is Lei too.”

Looking at him, she couldn’t help recalling the scene from a few days ago—him kneeling in the street, completely stripped of dignity.

She asked the question that had been bothering her for days:

“Why are you still insisting I marry He Zhuosheng?”

Lei Jiu fell silent.

She couldn’t understand it.

Not waiting for an answer, she walked to the front row and sat down.

“I’m qualified to sit here, right?”

Lei Jiu said nothing. He pulled open the meeting room doors and instructed the secretary. One by one, the directors returned.

The annual meeting officially began.

Ye Shiyao sat beside Lei Shaoxin, stealing a glance at her from the corner of her eye. The aura around her was unmistakably powerful.

No wonder she’s Mr. Fu’s woman, she thought.

After the meeting, as Lei Shaoxin walked past He Zhuosheng, he opened his mouth as if to speak—but no words came out.

Ye Shiyao quickly followed behind her.

A-Feng drove Lei Shaoxin home first. Ye Shiyao rolled the window halfway down, letting the cold wind brush through her hair.

She watched the Christmas decorations lining the streets, the soft glow of taillights blurring into the distance.

Her thoughts drifted back to what Lei Shaoxin had said—about bringing her into Lei Corporation.

A-Feng glanced at her in the rearview mirror, noticing her lost in thought. He waved a hand lightly in front of her face.

She snapped back, turned to look outside, and said softly,

“Thanks, Brother Feng.”

Then she got out of the car.

Back home, Lei Shaoxin stepped into the living room and heard sounds coming from the kitchen.

She walked over and saw Fu Haoyan, sleeves rolled up, revealing part of his tattoo, an apron tied around his waist. The look made his broad shoulders stand out even more as he focused on cooking.

The sizzling of the pan filled the air.

He hadn’t noticed her return—until his peripheral vision caught her leaning against the counter.

She smiled softly and walked toward him.

Wrapping her arms around him from behind, she hugged him tightly. He lifted one hand to block her slender arms around his waist.

“Take these dishes to the dining room first,” he said while cooking. “There’s a lot of oil smoke here. One more dish and we can eat.”

She let go, carried the finished dishes out, and served the rice.

Right on time, he brought out the last dish.

“How did it go at Lei Corporation today? Did anyone give you trouble?” he asked, placing some poached chicken into her bowl.

She sipped her soup.

“Who would dare bully me?”

Then she set the bowl down and added calmly,

“Boss Fu, I want Plot No. 9.”

He paused, looking at her without speaking.

She explained slowly,

“The luxury housing project at Lei Corporation is missing that piece of land. You snatched it before, so now the entire project is stalled. If I want to return to Lei Corporation, I need that land as leverage—to push He Zhuosheng out.”

Fu Haoyan agreed without hesitation.

Originally, he had bought that plot just to provoke He Zhuosheng. It wasn’t even particularly useful.

Lei Shaoxin raised an eyebrow.

“This time, I want the entire Lei Corporation.”

A faint smile tugged at his lips.

“Fu Corporation will back you.”
