Fifth Madam Gu’s face turned pale.

Old Master’s words were clearly a warning aimed at her.

Even small families that could barely make it into upper society would not marry their daughters into the Chu family. If Fifth Madam Gu truly went through with it, she would be dragging the Gu family’s reputation through the mud.

Even if the daughter in question was only an adopted one.

“Yes, I understand.” Fifth Madam Gu’s throat felt dry. She shot Gu Tangzhou a resentful glance.

If he had not mentioned the Chu family in front of the Old Master, the Old Master would not have spoken to her so harshly.

What was his relationship with Luo Jin that made him go this far to help her?

Gu Tangzhou, however, remained expressionless. After speaking, he stood quietly beside the Old Master, supporting his arm as if he had nothing to do with it.

Fifth Madam Gu was shaking with anger.

Gu Qinghan stayed close to her, clearly sensing her fury, and quickly clung to her arm.

She smiled innocently and acted spoiled as she said to Old Master Gu, “Grandpa, you’ve misunderstood Mom. It’s just that I really like Brother Chu, so Mom agreed to consider it.”

“Actually, Mom is also troubled, after all, Second Young Master Chu is… in that kind of condition.”

“Qinghan!” Fifth Madam Gu snapped. “Adults are talking. Children shouldn’t interrupt!”

Gu Qinghan stuck out her tongue playfully, pretending to be innocent and carefree.

Old Master Gu glanced at her. “Qinghan is a good child. She deserves a better family.”

“You don’t need to worry about her marriage anymore.”

The implication was clear: from now on, he would personally take charge of Gu Qinghan’s marriage and would not let Fifth Madam Gu interfere.

Fifth Madam Gu froze.

Even Gu Qinghan was stunned.

What did Grandpa mean? Was she no longer going to be able to marry Brother Hanzhi?

It’s all Luo Jin’s fault—why did she have to start vomiting at the worst possible time?!

Luo Jin, who had been inexplicably glared at, kept her eyes lowered and stood quietly, neither looking left nor right.

The Old Master’s words had, in effect, helped her out of the situation.

At the very least, she had gotten through this immediate crisis.

“Let’s go.” Without lingering, the Old Master said to Gu Tangzhou.

“Alright.”

The man passed by Luo Jin without looking at her, as though she were a complete stranger.

But Luo Jin still keenly sensed that, in that instant, something was slipped into her waistband.

After the Old Master left, Gu Qinghan immediately asked, “Mom, what did Grandpa mean just now?”

“Is he trying to arrange my marriage for an alliance? I don’t want that—I only want to marry Brother Hanzhi.”

Fifth Madam Gu glared at her. “And who told you to interrupt earlier? If you hadn’t spoken, would your grandfather have noticed you?!”

She was also angry. She only had one precious daughter—did she think she would harm her?

Chu Hanzhi was outstanding even in all of Tongcheng.

Not to mention her, even the Bai family’s daughter, the Wu family’s daughter, and the Qin family’s daughter were all eyeing him.

If it weren’t for the fact that the Chu family had a Second Young Master no one was willing to marry—and that she just happened to have an “unimportant” Luo Jin—this wouldn’t have been so simple.

But now everything had been ruined by Gu Tangzhou’s single sentence.

“I was just helping you!” Gu Qinghan muttered in dissatisfaction. Then she turned and saw Luo Jin standing there like a wooden post, and her anger flared up again. “It’s all her fault!”

“If she hadn’t made a scene in public, we wouldn’t have come to the hospital.”

And if they hadn’t come to the hospital, they wouldn’t have met Grandpa, and none of this would have happened.

In the end—it was all Luo Jin’s fault!

Fifth Madam Gu thought the same way, and her gaze toward Luo Jin was so sharp it looked like she wanted to tear her apart.

“Take her for the examination!”

The bodyguard hesitated. “Then… what exactly should we test for?”

“Start with a pregnancy test!”

The bodyguards escorted Luo Jin away.

This time, Luo Jin surprisingly complied.

Blood test. Urine test.

She even used the opportunity to go to the restroom.

The bodyguards stood guard outside to prevent her from escaping.

Inside the restroom, Luo Jin looked at the slip of paper she had pulled from her waistband. On it was a string of numbers—clearly a password.

She frowned.

What did Gu Tangzhou mean by this?

Was he telling her to go to his place and find him?

Five years ago he gave no reply, and now, after meeting again, he not only slept with her but now wanted her to go to him on her own?

Did he expect her to come willingly and keep being used like that?

Her fingers curled tightly, crushing the paper into a ball in her palm.

After thinking for a moment, she threw it into the trash and walked out of the restroom.

Fifth Madam Gu had already instructed the hospital to prioritize the test results.

Less than five minutes later, the report was in her hands.

Seeing that the HCG result was negative, Fifth Madam Gu’s tense expression finally eased slightly.

Luo Jin kept her head down. “I told you—I’m not pregnant. I just have stomach discomfort.”

Hearing her still trying to argue, Fifth Madam Gu shot her a cold look.

“That doesn’t mean you’re clean.”

“I warn you, remember the Gu family rules. If you cause any scandal, don’t blame me for being unkind.”

Luo Jin said nothing, acting obedient and submissive.

Gu Qinghan had no time to deal with her now—she only cared about what would happen with Chu Hanzhi.

Fifth Madam Gu also understood her daughter’s thoughts, so after scolding Luo Jin, she left with her.

Relieved of their presence, Luo Jin finally let out a breath.

She sat in the hospital corridor for a long while, then simply got a gastroscopy done as well. By the time she left the hospital, it was already evening.

Just as she was about to take out her phone to call a ride, her view suddenly darkened.

“Miss Luo Jin, Young Master Gu has sent me to pick you up.”

Her hand trembled, and her phone nearly fell.

When she saw that the person in front of her was Gu Tangzhou’s secretary, a chill ran down her spine.

“No need, I—”

Before she could finish, the secretary smiled and interrupted, “Also, the boss would like to know your test results.”

Of course.

How could Gu Tangzhou possibly be so considerate as to send a driver?

It was just an excuse to check whether she was pregnant.

In his eyes, she—the “younger sister” who had once dared to climb into his bed at eighteen—was probably just someone impulsive and incapable of self-control.

Luo Jin’s eyelashes trembled as she forced back the bitterness rising in her eyes.

He probably had never even considered that the girl who once threw herself at him like a moth to a flame might not have done so out of recklessness—but out of something far simpler and more honest:

She loved him.

Silently, in a place no one knew.

“Please tell him I am not pregnant. I just have stomach issues.”

“Also, no need for your trouble—I’ll just take a taxi myself.”

She stepped past the secretary and headed toward the hospital exit.

But the moment she looked up, she saw a tall, upright man standing beside a black car about fifty meters away.

The luxurious vehicle and the strikingly handsome, imposing man formed a scene that drew the attention of every passerby.

Luo Jin’s steps froze completely. She could not react for a long time.
