Shen Chengyan had left in anger.

But Jiang Yu did not hear the sound of a car engine starting.

After she finished preparing food and came out of the kitchen, she saw him standing outside the floor-to-ceiling window.Full novel: Mr. Shen, Your Devoted Wife Filed for Divorce and Disappeared — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The courtyard was spacious and brightly lit. The man stood tall and straight, making a phone call.

Shen Chengyan was very tall. In a suit, he could simply stand anywhere and his lean, sharp figure would immediately draw attention.

It had to be said—among all his flaws, his appearance and physique were undeniable strengths.

Jiang Yu couldn’t help glancing at him a couple of times. The man on the phone caught her gaze sharply, and she immediately looked away.

Shen Chengyan narrowed his eyes slightly, ended the call, and turned back into the house.

As soon as he entered, he smelled something odd in the air. His expression subtly changed.

Looking at Jiang Yu, who was quietly slurping noodles, he asked in his venomous tone, “Since when did you develop a habit of eating shit?”

Jiang Yu choked. “This is luosifen!”

Shen Chengyan pulled out a chair and sat opposite her, his gaze calm and direct. “You said your taste was light. You never eat this kind of food.”

That was because he disliked strong flavors.

He had a bland palate and did not eat spicy food.

To be able to eat with him, she had given up her own preferences and adjusted herself to his tastes.

Jiang Yu said lightly, “Even married people can divorce. Why can’t tastes change?”

Shen Chengyan sneered. “Change? Or maybe you’ve always been like this and just hid it well.”

Jiang Yu felt there was something deeper in his words. She looked up sharply. “What do you mean?”

But Shen Chengyan refused to elaborate.

Too lazy to argue further, Jiang Yu took out a pre-prepared document and handed it to him. “Take a look. If there’s no problem, sign it.”

Shen Chengyan immediately saw the bold words on the white paper: Divorce Agreement.

He picked it up, flipped through it casually, then couldn’t help but laugh. “You want half of my money?”

He tossed the document back onto the table and raised his brows. “Do you think that’s reasonable?”

Jiang Yu knew divorce wouldn’t be simple.

Any contract involving large sums of money would not be settled in one discussion.

Unless she left with nothing.

But she didn’t want that.

“If you don’t agree, we can negotiate the exact amount,” she said.

“No negotiation. If you want a divorce, you leave with nothing. The same way you came in.”

“Are you even human? I’ve been with you for so many years, had children for you—what’s wrong with me taking a share!”

“You did have a son. What daughter?”

“Stop nitpicking words. I’ve poured my heart into this marriage. Even if there’s no credit, there’s effort. Don’t take things too far.”

“Poured your heart in?” Shen Chengyan let out a cold laugh from his throat, full of unclear meaning. “You really say anything.”

Jiang Yu nearly gritted her teeth to pieces.

In order to get more money from him, she did not explode on the spot.

She lowered her head and continued eating noodles.

Shen Chengyan glanced at her several times, increasingly irritated. His long fingers tugged at his tie. “Where is my dinner?”

“Make it yourself,” Jiang Yu said.

“I don’t know how. Go make it for me.”

His tone was matter-of-fact.

That immediately ignited her anger.

“If you don’t know how to cook, then go eat shit! Why should I cook for you? Did you pay me? Am I supposed to be your housekeeper? Damn it!”

Seeing the flash of shock in the man’s eyes, Jiang Yu realized her five-year “gentle wife” image had completely collapsed.

Fine. Let it collapse. She didn’t care anymore.

Perhaps unable to accept her foul language, Shen Chengyan pushed back his chair and went upstairs with a dark expression.

Jiang Yu finished her meal alone in peace. After cleaning up, she exercised for about an hour, showered, put on a face mask, watched a movie, and only then went upstairs to rest.

Just as she reached the second floor, she saw Shen Chengyan coming out of the study.

His brows were tightly furrowed. One hand held a cup while the other pressed against his stomach. He looked unwell.

But his face remained cold, and he didn’t even glance at her.

Jiang Yu suddenly asked, “Your stomach hurts again?”

Nine out of ten presidents had stomach problems.

Shen Chengyan was no exception.

Whenever he skipped meals, his stomach would inevitably act up.

Over the years, Jiang Yu had carefully adjusted his diet in every possible way. He hadn’t had an attack in a long time.

Shen Chengyan glanced at her sideways, thinking she still had some conscience.

The next second, she said gleefully, “That’s great. Hope it hurts you to death, you black-hearted person.”

She finished and returned to her room, slamming the door with force.

“…”

Standing in the hallway, Shen Chengyan not only felt stomach pain—his lungs hurt too.

**

Saturday was the Shen family’s weekly gathering.

No matter how busy he was, Shen Chengyan—this momma’s boy—always returned without fail every week.

In the past, every weekend made Jiang Yu extremely uncomfortable. She didn’t want to face the Shen family’s ridiculous behavior, but after struggling internally, she still obediently accompanied him.

Because she wanted the reputation of being a “good wife,” even if it meant swallowing all her anger.

When Shen Chengyan came downstairs, Jiang Yu was lying on the sofa playing with her phone.

Seeing her sloppy posture, his brows immediately furrowed. “Did you forget what day it is?”

How could she forget after enduring it for so many years?

“I’m not going,” she said without looking up.

“You’re joking.”

“Do I look like I’m joking?”

He was silent for two seconds. “Give me a reason.”

“I can give you ten. I don’t want to be scolded by your mother, I don’t want to be insulted by your father, I don’t want your brother mocking me, and I don’t want your housekeeper looking down on me.”

And she especially didn’t want to see him and Hu Youyue acting all affectionate.

Shen Chengyan felt she was talking nonsense.

Every time they went, she always “got along well” with everyone.

Clearly just an excuse.

“If you think everyone is targeting you, maybe it’s your problem. But if everyone is targeting you—whose problem is it?”

“Shen Chengyan, go to hell.”

Jiang Yu grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.

He didn’t expect the sudden attack and got hit square in the face.

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, adjusted his glasses, and left before losing control of his temper. The door slammed loudly behind him.

“Ahhh—idiot! Idiot! Stupid idiot!”

Jiang Yu was also furious, kicking the air on the sofa.

If she didn’t get along with the Shen family, they would drown her in their spit.

It wasn’t that he didn’t understand—it was that he simply didn’t care about her difficulties.

He had never understood her situation.

**

Shen Chengyan sat in the car without starting it.

He leaned back, head slightly tilted, throat prominent, jawline tense as his facial muscles twitched.

After a moment, he opened his eyes again, expression calm once more.

Then he got out of the car and returned to the house.

Standing in front of her, he said, “Didn’t you want me to sign the divorce agreement?”

Jiang Yu had also calmed slightly. “Go on.”

“If you come to the Shen family dinner with me, I’ll consider your agreement.”

Jiang Yu immediately stood up. “Deal.”

Convincing him to agree wasn’t easy.

Going to the Shen family again? She could handle it.

She grabbed her phone and said, “Let’s go.”

But Shen Chengyan didn’t move. His eyes scanned her up and down. “You’re going like this?”

“What’s wrong with me?”

“The Shen family’s housekeepers dress better than you.”

“You’ve got too many damn opinions. Are you coming or not?”

“…”

He gritted his teeth and walked out first.

Jiang Yu got into the back seat.

The man in the driver’s seat said coldly, “I’m not your driver. Sit in the front.”

“Things are already this awkward. Sitting together would just be fake, don’t you think?” she said sarcastically. “I’ll sit in the back so everyone’s comfortable.”

“I’m not your driver. Sit in the front.”

“I’m not your driver. Sit in the front.”

“…This psycho.”
