Then he saw the recorder in Gray’s hand.

He did not come to the stretcher.

Caleb stepped through the fog, took the tablet from the safety officer, and sealed every camera, purge log, and operator record under his name.Full novel: My Alpha Sacrificed My Hand for Her, So I Left Him — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Equipment incident only,” he said.

“No outside interviews.”

Then he put Ivy behind his shoulder when she came crying down the corridor, and barred anyone from questioning her alone.

Security shifted to block the media wall.

Nobody got near her.

Gray pointed at my silvered right hand and the sealed stick still in the tray.

“She brought the evidence out,” he said.

“And you lock the evidence first? Seal the admin ID now. Timestamp. Cabin cam.”

Caleb’s gaze went to the delay line on the tablet, not to the silver climbing my wrist.

“Safety reviewer failed to follow evacuation procedure,” he said.

“Three-second window. She stayed. That is the record.”

Ivy pressed closer to him.

He kept her behind his shoulder while a medic cut the remains of my glove away.

Medics rolled the gurney toward the corridor.

Caleb’s left hand stayed on Ivy’s shoulder.

His right set a confidentiality tablet on my left rail, between the IV line and the sealed sample tray.

“Take this public and the whole lab goes under with Y-2,” he said.

“Sign the confidentiality agreement. I’ll fund an independent lab for you and agree to begin the divorce settlement.”

“That is not a court settlement,” I said.

“And it is not filing authority.”

“It is the only freedom you can buy today.”

Silver blood from my right hand hit the tablet edge and smeared along the glass.

“You’ll agree to begin,” I repeated.

His finger remained beside the signature box.

“You want freedom,” Caleb said.

“Buy it with silence.”

Ivy made a soft sound behind him.

He looked at her monitor, then back at the blank line.

In a hospital side room, my independent lawyer separated the binding silence agreement from Caleb’s two promises: lab funding and the start of a divorce settlement.

“Only the silence binds tonight,” she said.

She narrowed the silence to the demonstration systems and logs, then left the safety-disclosure route open.

“Keep the safety exception,” I said.

“I won’t promise to let him do this to someone else.”

I read the revised exception twice.

Reports to the independent safety board remained permitted.

Then I signed with my left hand, the right suspended in a sling.

Caleb stood at the door and said the money and the divorce would land if I held the line.

I pointed at the pages.

“Only what is on paper.”

After the lawyer bagged the originals, Gray pressed a private encrypted drive into my left palm and closed my fingers over it.

“They locked the primary system,” he said.

“Not the copy that left ninety seconds after the accident started. Admin ID. Purge rewrite timestamp. Cabin cam. Independent. Already off the lab network.”

“Move the drive off lab premises,” I said.

“Different building. Different chain. Y-2’s name goes to her for now. The amendment and original ownership stay with us. The hand—we fix later.”

My lawyer took the drive number down beside the safety exception.

“This can go to the board,” she said.

“It won’t prove the formula is yours.”

“It proves who opened the purge.”

She nodded.

I looked at the arm hanging in the sling.

Ivy still had the keys that had let her do this.

“Then let’s take her keys.”

Seven business days after I signed, the lab money had arrived.

The divorce papers had not.

On my lawyer’s wall screen, Blackwood counsel displayed a valuation schedule stretching three months ahead.

“No drafting date until the valuation is fixed,” he said.

“The equipment deposits cleared yesterday,” I said.

“You managed those dates.”

“The funding demonstrates Mr. Blackwood’s good faith.”

My lawyer sent the demand before he could repeat it: begin the formal paperwork by close of business.

Beside her keyboard lay the safety-board submission we had prepared from Gray’s mirror.

“The accident evidence goes to independent review.”

“The group may seek recovery of the funding.”

I pushed the equipment ledger toward my lawyer.

Every payment was there.

Let him try to take the money back in a room where someone would ask why.

“Send it,” I said.

On the morning of the eighth business day, the Final Settlement Filing Package was still empty.

I walked into the closed special compliance session with only the ninety seconds I needed to strip her access.

The room lights dimmed.

Gray played the independent copy and matched its timestamps to the sealed recorder I had brought out of the cabin.

Ivy’s access had been locked.

Then a remote key assigned to her badge opened the purge through an administrative override.

On the screen, white mist swallowed my hand.

I pressed my left palm against the table until I could stop seeing the image from inside the glass.

“An equipment incident,” Caleb said.

Gray stopped the video on the command entry.

“Equipment didn’t log in with her key.”

The next frame showed Caleb’s order sealing the logs before the stretcher left the corridor.

A board member lowered the notes he had prepared.

“Can Ms. Hale reach this system again?” the chair asked.

The systems officer checked.

“Through the same override, yes.”

“Disable it,” I said.

“Taking her badge means nothing if you leave her another way in.”

Caleb leaned forward.

“That access supports a strategic project.”

“Then put an investigator in charge of it,” the chair said.

“Not the person whose key released silver into an occupied cabin.”

The board voted under Caleb’s silent stare.

Gold flooded his eyes.

His fangs descended far enough to mark the shape of his mouth, but he forced the wolf to remain in his chair.

It helps a lot!
