My wolf met his stare and stayed standing.

The board froze Ivy’s cabin, sample, and purge access pending investigation.

She could no longer approve clinical advancement, and the risk-correction work returned to my bench under independent oversight.

Her commercial title remained.

For now, that was all it could open.

When Ivy came in, she looked at Caleb before looking at the clear bag on the table.

“My demonstration is scheduled for Friday.”

“Not in that cabin,” the chair said.

“Surrender the key.”

She pulled the cord over her head.

The plastic clip snapped and bounced against Caleb’s shoe.

He did not reach for it.

I pulled the read-only decryptor back into my left palm and snapped the still-unopened full encrypted drive shut against my fingers.

“The complete mirror does not enter Blackwood custody,” I said.

“What you got today is only enough to execute today’s resolution.”

I took nothing else from the table except the stamped copy that read E.

Vale — access restored.

Ivy caught up with me at the door.

“He’ll fix it.”

Behind her, the systems officer cut the last override.

Her terminal sounded a refusal.

I took my resolution back to the laboratory.

At nine the next morning, Ivy tried her replacement visitor badge at the sample-room door.

The reader flashed red.

“Check again,” she told the technician.

“The partner office cleared my visit.”

He looked at the approval on her phone, then at the restriction fixed beside the reader.

“You can use the observation gallery.”

Caleb stood at the far end of the corridor.

The technician saw him.

He still kept his hand on the closed door.

I badged into the primary bay while Ivy waited outside it.

Someone had removed her labels from my rack.

Gray stood beside the control tray, and the two junior researchers who had avoided my eyes last week came over with their notebooks open.

For a moment I forgot what I had been about to say.

Then I gave them their stations.

I set the beaker with my left hand and used the brace to support the right for the final drop.

My fingers trembled.

Gray waited until I nodded before reading the value.

The sample settled green.

“In range,” he said.

One of the juniors grinned.

Maya tapped her pen against the bench in a small, ridiculous drumroll, and I found myself smiling back.

We repeated the test.

Then I taught them the correction step that Ivy’s file did not contain.

She watched from the gallery.

When the last tech left, I locked the side-room door.

I reached for the parameter pen.

It slid out of my right fingers and hit the floor.

The silver-scarred zone seized hard.

A test tube rolled off the bench edge and shattered.

Blood beaded through the old scar seam.

I wrapped my palm with my left hand and used the bench brush to collect the glass.

The completed run sheet lay above the spill, signed by the whole team.

I moved it out of the way before I wiped the bench.

I wrote the joint hand-and-regenerative-nerve recheck appointment on a sticky note with my left hand.

I booked the appointment before leaving.

Tomorrow’s run stayed on the board, with Maya assigned to the precision steps.

That night I parked the ordinary car at the end of the gala motorcade.

My old dress had a remade cuff so the brace stayed out of sight.

Seed money was already in reagents and equipment.

I was not going to spend it on a new gown for Blackwood’s cameras.

I walked to the main family entrance.

The greeter scanned my invitation.

His screen flashed Elena Vale — family relation: TBD.

“Main family list has no Luna,” he said.

“Only pending family. You’ll need the media guest lane.”

Behind me, Ivy stepped out of Caleb’s convoy. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.

Her badge read Alpha’s Honored Guest.

The greeters opened the main hall doors for her without a pause.

I did not argue with the man holding a tablet.

“Archive that line with a screenshot of the list,” I said.

“Send both to my legal contact. Tonight is not a system glitch.”

Matriarch Blackwood reached the entrance before security could move me.

Ivy stepped forward to take her arm.

Matriarch walked past that hand as if it were empty air and offered her own to me.

“My Jubilee,” she said, loud enough for the cameras.

“My Luna walks me in.”

I took her arm.

From inside my clutch, Maya’s message lit the phone: Second run holds.

See you tomorrow, boss.

I put it away and walked into the hall.

I helped her through the media wall and into the ring of medical investors and research ethics members.

She told them, in open hearing, that my risk amendments had saved Blackwood’s most important research credit.

Caleb stood by the Alpha place.

A guest in diamond earrings leaned toward Ivy with a champagne smile.

“You’ll make a radiant future Luna.”

Two more groups said the same thing in softer words.

Caleb heard every line.

He corrected none of them.

As we passed, Caleb’s winter-pine scent caught in my throat.

He glanced at my bare ring finger and stayed beside Ivy.

Media called for a warm-up family shot.

Noah cut through the crowd and threw himself into Ivy’s arms.

“Mom! Look, we match!”

Ivy locked him against her side and stepped into place next to Caleb.

Caleb did not bring the child back to me.

He did not correct the photographer either.

“The Blackwood family—closer, please.”

Flash after flash stacked into a white wall.

The social screen spun out the three-person photo in real time.

I stood beside Matriarch and watched my chest badge’s TBD get cropped out of the frame.

What remained was Ivy’s honored guest tag and Noah’s smile.
