Perhaps because Bai Nanxing had fainted due to low blood sugar, Mo Yuncheng did not insist that he join them for dinner. After having the private doctor administer glucose, he allowed Bai Nanxing to rest properly in the guest room.
But “resting properly” was out of the question.
As soon as Mo Leyang left, Bai Nanxing propped himself up in bed, arranging the pillows into a suitable position to lean back.
Just as he was about to send a message to Yan Mo, a voice message from Bai Ruoning popped up on his phone screen.
Bai Nanxing didn’t click to listen; he simply deleted the message. He had almost forgotten he still had Bai Ruoning on WeChat—if the other hadn’t messaged him, Bai Nanxing would have forgotten the contact even existed.
He immediately performed the “one-stop service” of deleting and blocking.
No food here. I can go back tonight. Bring me a serving of beef rice.
After sending this WeChat message to Yan Mo, Bai Nanxing stopped looking at his phone, because it wasn’t long before Mo Leyang returned.
And he brought Bai Ruoning with him.
“He kept looking for you but couldn’t find the way. I decided to do a good deed for once and lead the way for free.”
Mo Leyang was doing it on purpose.
Bai Nanxing grit his teeth, but ultimately endured it. “Then I truly must thank the Third Young Master.”
“Helping others is a traditional virtue; no need to be polite.” Mo Leyang’s eyes narrowed like a fox’s, a smug curl appearing on his lips.
In Bai Nanxing’s eyes, however, it was a waste of a good-looking face.
Beside him, Bai Ruoning hurried forward, wagging his tail like a pug, praying that Mo Leyang would spare him a glance.
But Mo Leyang’s attitude toward Bai Ruoning was clearly one of impatience. He didn’t even bother to be perfunctory, and his expression soured visibly.
Unfortunately, Bai Ruoning lacked any sense of discernment—or perhaps he had set his sights on Mo Leyang. His eyes were glowing, and the words “I like you” were practically written across his face.
Bai Nanxing couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
The sound was very soft, almost inaudible.
However, Mo Leyang’s hearing was excellent. He understood exactly what that laugh meant. He narrowed his eyes and his mouth twitched. “Little Sister-in-law is laughing so happily. Have you thought of something funny?”
Bai Nanxing’s laughter stopped abruptly. He said calmly, “I probably just remembered seeing a dog fall into a stinky ditch a few days ago.”
Bai Ruoning didn’t know about the history between Mo Leyang and Bai Nanxing, but his instinct was to stand in opposition to Bai Nanxing. He turned and asked in a questioning tone, “What dog? What falling into a ditch? Bai Nanxing, do you not have a mouth to speak clearly?!”
Bai Nanxing didn’t know what Bai Ruoning was thinking when he shouted that question, but he knew that Mo Leyang was about to explode with rage at Bai Ruoning’s words.
Sure enough, when he looked up at Mo Leyang’s face, it was no different from the bottom of a frying pan—it looked ready to start smoking.
“Third Young Master, what’s wrong with your face?” Bai Nanxing asked intentionally.
Bai Ruoning still hadn’t caught on. Hearing Bai Nanxing ask, he turned around and followed suit: “Third Young Master, are you feeling unwell?”
Mo Leyang felt like killing Bai Ruoning, but for the sake of Bai Yi, he reined in his emotions. “It’s nothing. You two talk.”
As he finished, Mo Leyang added one more thing: “Little Sister-in-law, you must take good care of your health. Otherwise, if I can’t see you, I will be very sad.”
Bai Nanxing knew that Mo Leyang would definitely blame this incident on him. When they got back, he would likely find other ways to deliberately torment him; the man was truly like a piece of sticky candy.
Seeing no reaction from Bai Nanxing, Mo Leyang’s expression darkened further. He didn’t show it in front of Bai Ruoning, though. Instead, he walked out of the guest room and found a suitable spot to stand and eavesdrop.
As soon as Bai Ruoning saw that Mo Leyang was gone, his usual arrogant air immediately resurfaced.
“You’ve grown quite capable now, haven’t you? Not only do you ignore my WeChat, but you even blocked me. Do you really think that by clinging to the Mo family’s thigh, you can truly fly up a branch and become a phoenix? I’m telling you, Bai Nanxing, you’re dreaming!”
“I heard you fainted just now. Why didn’t you just faint to death? That way you wouldn’t waste medicine, and you wouldn’t have to stain someone else’s bed with your bad luck. Don’t you feel uneasy?”
Bai Nanxing was too lazy to argue with him. First, he knew Mo Leyang hadn’t actually left and was likely eavesdropping at the door. Second, he didn’t have the strength to argue. The IV drip was moving too slowly, and the dizziness from the low blood sugar persisted; it wasn’t worth the effort.
He rubbed his aching forehead and didn’t respond to those words. Instead, he said, “If you have nothing else to do, please leave. I’m dizzy and need to rest.”
What Bai Ruoning hated most was Bai Nanxing’s facade of calm, which made him look like a jumping clown.
He stepped quickly to the bedside, reached out, and gripped Bai Nanxing’s chin, forcing his face around to meet his own. Then, while Bai Nanxing was caught off guard, he delivered a heavy slap to his face.
“Slap.”
The crisp sound of the slap echoed in the room.
Bai Nanxing never expected Bai Ruoning to actually strike him. By the time he reacted, his face was already burning with pain.
However, even this didn’t satisfy Bai Ruoning. He wanted to do it again, but this time Bai Nanxing was prepared and shoved him back forcefully.
He was already dizzy from the low blood sugar; after that slap, Bai Nanxing felt the world spinning even more. He clutched his head and gasped for breath.
“You dare push me!”
Bai Ruoning steadied himself and immediately rushed forward again. This time he didn’t use his palm, but swung a fist instead.
Bai Nanxing watched the fist coming at him through half-closed eyes, but at this distance, he couldn’t dodge. He could only close his eyes and use his hands to protect his head.
However, before Bai Ruoning’s fist could land, it was stopped by a voice from behind.
“I only agreed to let you talk to him. I didn’t say you could beat him to death.”
As expected, Mo Leyang had not left.
Bai Ruoning panicked and pulled back his fist, explaining, “Third Young Master, you misunderstood. I wasn’t going to hit him. I was just joking with Nanxing! Yes, I was just joking with him!”
“Joking?” Mo Leyang walked in slowly, then pinched Bai Nanxing’s slightly swollen face. “A joke made his face swell on its own? Do you think I’m deaf, or do you think I’m blind?”
Bai Ruoning was scared out of his wits by Mo Leyang’s words. His previously flushed face turned pale in an instant, and his speech became stuttered. “Th-Third Young Master, I… I really just…”
Mo Leyang gave him a cold glare. “Five seconds.”
He began the countdown. “Five, four, three, two…”
Bai Ruoning understood his meaning. Finally, when Mo Leyang counted to “two,” he scrambled out of the guest room.
…………….
“What a pity, for such a nice face.”
Mo Leyang released Bai Nanxing’s chin, uncharacteristically refraining from gloating. The expression on his face was somewhat difficult to decipher.
However, none of that mattered; Mo Leyang was notoriously temperamental and unpredictable, so no expression of his was truly surprising.
“Thank you,” Bai Nanxing said, speaking from the bottom of his heart.
Just moments ago, Bai Ruoning had been striking with lethal intent. If he hadn’t managed to avoid it, that fist landing would have surely caused a brain hemorrhage. Then again, Bai Ruoning had always been ruthless toward him—knowing she couldn’t win in a fair fight, she would wait until he was ill to strike for the kill, acting out of pure malice.
Mo Leyang showed no reaction to the gratitude. His gaze remained fixed on the slightly red and swollen left cheek. “You don’t even know how to hit back?”
Bai Nanxing didn’t expose him, nor did he explain why. He simply asked for help in a weak tone: “Senior, could you help me pour a glass of water?”
The back of his hand was still pierced by a needle, with glucose solution dripping down from the bag drop by drop. There was still half a bottle left, and the table was at least a meter away—completely out of reach.
But Bai Nanxing didn’t want to get up. Having just taken a slap from Bai Ruoning, he was in a semi-conscious state, barely clinging to life thanks to the IV drip, and he had no desire to exert himself further.
Moreover, with free labor standing right there, why do it himself?
“Senior…”
Bai Nanxing’s voice was soft and cottony, carrying a hint of a lingering, seductive quality. No matter how strong Mo Leyang’s self-control was, he felt a jolt of electricity at that moment.
Subconsciously, he walked toward the table.
He actually cooperated and poured a glass for Bai Nanxing.
But Mo Leyang, possessing a wicked nature, brought the cup to Bai Nanxing’s face but refused to hand it over, waving it back and forth in front of him. He was intentionally trying to make things difficult.
