“Zhou Lin, what do you mean by that?”
“Tell us, who are you calling a rotten mouth!”
The two of them rose from their chairs in a fury and walked straight up to Zhou Lin, their expressions incredibly unfriendly as they assumed an air of aggressive interrogation.
Seeing this, Zhou Lin set down his phone and looked up at the pair. “Do you two really think that just because you didn’t say the names out loud, people don’t know who you’re talking about?”
He had initially thought the opposition would back down upon being confronted, but he hadn’t expected that these two roommates—perhaps truly feeling as though someone had stolen their wives—would let the smell of gunpowder flare up instantly.
“Fine then, why don’t you tell us: who exactly were the two of us talking about?”
This was the first time Zhou Lin had encountered someone so intent on seeking their own doom. He didn’t want to get involved, but he knew that if he stayed out of it, given Mo Leyang’s temperament, these two idiots would be utterly ruined. “That new post on the forum—do you need me to recite the title word-for-word for you to hear?”
With the matter exposed to their faces, the two stopped pretending altogether.
One of the roommates, Gu Shize, sneered mockingly, “Since you already know, there’s no point in us pretending not to understand. Yeah, that’s right—it’s exactly about that school forum post. Did we say anything wrong? Didn’t Bai Nanxing get out of his car? The photos show it crystal clear; do we even need to say it?”
“Bai Nanxing’s mother is a homewrecker, a mistress; she is one, and so is he. He’s always seducing other people’s boyfriends. Who knows how many men have slept with him? A piece of trash like that, and yet Mo Leyang is rushing in to sleep with him—isn’t he afraid of catching a disease!”
“What did we say wrong? Isn’t this the truth? He dares to do it but doesn’t dare to admit it—is he even a man?”
It would have been fine if Gu Shize hadn’t said that last part; at least then there might have been room for retreat. But humans are perhaps born with a tendency toward self-destruction. The moment those words left his mouth, Zhou Lin’s head began to throb violently.
“You really won’t die unless you go looking for it, will you?”
Before Gu Shize could react to the meaning of those words, he was about to open his mouth to ask when a dark shadow flickered in his peripheral vision, lunging toward him. By the time he tried to see what the shadow was, a sensation of intense pain instantly robbed him of his ability to maintain his balance.
Bang—!
The nearby chair was knocked over by the falling body. The heavy frame struck the hard floor, emitting a massive clatter that echoed through the relatively small dormitory.
The other roommate, Li Ran, hadn’t reacted at all. By the time he did, he saw Gu Shize already collapsed on the floor, clutching his face and howling in agony. Li Ran stood there, completely stunned.
“You… you guys…”
Zhou Lin knew it would end like this. The thing that gave him the biggest headache had happened after all. Rising from his seat, he bypassed Li Ran and stood directly in front of Gu Shize. “I should have warned you sooner. There are some things you shouldn’t say, and some people you definitely shouldn’t provoke.”
Half of Gu Shize’s face had already become swollen and red, with a trace of blood hanging from the corner of his mouth. His eyes glared death at Mo Leyang, who had struck him, but his facial muscles had long since gone numb with pain. He couldn’t utter a single word; he could only stare at Zhou Lin, who was speaking to him, while letting out whimpering sounds at Mo Leyang, who looked down on him with utter disdain.
He looked incredibly pathetic.
In Mo Leyang’s eyes, he looked even more ridiculous—not even reaching the level of a jumping clown. However, Mo Leyang had always detested people barking like mad dogs in front of him; such behavior severely affected his mood.
“You recorded it all, right?” Mo Leyang smiled as he pulled out a tissue to wipe the hand he had just used to punch the man. After wiping, he tossed the tissue into the nearby trash can as if he had touched something extremely filthy.
Zhou Lin waved his phone in front of him. “The part where they were spreading rumors about you has been fully recorded. I’ll send it to the counselor later and see how they handle it. If the counselor can’t handle it, then we’ll just have to take a trip to the Principal’s office.”
Upon hearing he had been recorded, Gu Shize’s gaze toward Mo Leyang and Zhou Lin became even more filled with hatred. He endured the agonizing pain to stand up from the floor, but because his head was swimming, he had to grab the desk to barely stay upright.
Once he had steadied himself somewhat, Gu Shize reached out to wipe the fresh blood from the corner of his mouth and hissed through gritted teeth, “You did this on purpose!”
Zhou Lin felt that this person’s brain might not be functioning properly, but since they were in the dormitory, he didn’t want to cause a larger scene. If they attracted a crowd, the follow-up would be troublesome to handle. He said, “We did it on purpose? I say, your head hasn’t been caught in a door, has it? You were the one who provoked this confrontation in the first place. We have the video as evidence. You’re the first person I’ve seen who manages to target us with your rumors.”
However, Zhou Lin could understand. After all, Gu Shize didn’t know who the two of them really were. If he did, he would currently be tucking his tail between his legs and behaving himself.
“Take your pick: do you plan on taking a megaphone to the entrance to apologize to us right now, or do you choose to let us go to the school authorities to resolve this?”
However, as soon as Zhou Lin finished speaking, Mo Leyang rejected the options entirely.
He said with a beaming smile, “Who said I’m accepting a settlement? Change that habit of making decisions for me. I’m very happy today. Since you want to make your ‘center stage’ debut at this school so badly, I’ll just have to fulfill that wish for you.”
Mo Leyang casually threw on the jacket hanging by his bed. He had thought he would see a great drama regarding Bai Nanxing today, but not only did he miss out, he also ran into two idiots who disgusted him beyond measure. Now, his mood for watching the drama was entirely gone, and even the air in the dormitory felt repulsive. He simply chose to leave.
Before walking out, he casually called his assistant, instructing them to book a hotel room in the city as quickly as possible. After finishing his instructions, he shot Gu Shize one last glare and left the room.
Zhou Lin thoughtfully pulled the door shut behind them and chased after him.
“You’re really going to stay outside?”
“Do you think those two idiots have lived too long?”
“Fine, that works too. However, what comes next might be a bit of a hassle.”
“What do you mean?”
Zhou Lin explained, “Didn’t you notice his name? Gu Shize. Surnamed Gu. If I remember correctly, he should be Gu Feng’s most pampered son.”
Mo Leyang sneered, “So?”
Zhou Lin said, “So, you hit him. When he goes back to complain to Gu Feng, he will definitely pin everything on you personally. When the time comes and Gu Feng goes to find the old man in your family, things will be a bit difficult to manage.”
Mo Leyang had never feared such things. He had only given Gu Shize one punch—Gu Shize should be feeling grateful. If Gu Feng dared to go to the old man, that would be a different story entirely. “I’m so scaaared… Brother Zhou Lin, you must make sure to protect me.”
The affected, syrupy voice combined with that incompatible, high-class mixed-race face caused Zhou Lin to instantly break out in goosebumps. “…”
In this world, there was probably nothing more lethal than a “tough guy acting cute.”
