Chapter 1: Washed

My Childhood Friend and I Started Fake Dating So We Could Swing with Our Crushes

[This is a story that will have elements of swinging and NTR]

Day one of sophomore year feels like a rerun of a show nobody asked for. Same crap, different calendar. I slouch deeper into my chair as Professor Jenkins drones on about syllabus policies that haven’t changed since the Stone Age.

College round two. My grand social experiment of freshman year. Actually trying to make friends, crashed and burned spectacularly. Not doing that again.

I doodle mindlessly in my notebook, a maze with no exit. The clock crawls so slowly I swear it’s moving backwards.

“And that concludes our overview for English 201,” Jenkins finally announces. “Remember, first response papers due Friday.”

I stuff my notebook into my backpack slowly. What’s the point of rushing? Nobody’s waiting for me.

Then I see her.

Caroline Cross. My crush since god know’s how long. Her brown hair catches the fluorescent lights as she laughs at something her friend whispers. My stomach flutters like I’m sixteen again.

I linger, pretending to search for something in my bag while watching her gather her things. She’s wearing a light blue sundress that makes her look like she belongs in some indie film about beautiful people with beautiful problems.

Not in my league. Not even close. Especially since she’s taken.

With a sigh, I hoist my bag over my shoulder and shuffle toward the exit. Maybe I’ll grab coffee before heading home to my thrilling evening of porn and YouTube videos.

A hand clamps down on my shoulder, nearly making me jump out of my skin.

“Vince. Let’s talk.”

That voice. I’d know it anywhere, even after all this time.

I turn slowly, and there she is. Ashley Chambers. My neighbor since we were in diapers. My best friend until high school. The girl who completely ghosted me after I stupidly confessed to her freshman year.

“Ashley...” I manage, my throat suddenly dry. Her green eyes narrow, and I can already tell she’s annoyed.

“Do you have a minute?” she asks, fingers still gripping my shoulder like she’s afraid I’ll bolt. Which, honestly, is a valid concern.

“Uhh... no... I gotta go...” I mumble, desperately wanting to be anywhere but here.

But Ashley doesn’t let go. The classroom has emptied out completely, the door clicking shut behind the last student. It’s just us now, trapped in our own private awkward bubble.

“Come on, look. I need to talk,” she insists, her ponytail swishing as she tilts her head. There’s something in her eyes I can’t quite read… Determination mixed with... nervousness?

“Okay... what’s up...” I reluctantly agree, shifting my weight from one foot to the other.

She takes a deep breath, then hits me with it. “Are you still a kissless virgin?”

The question slams into me like a freight train. Heat crawls up my neck, my ears burning as embarrassment, anger, and humiliation swirl inside me. Of all the things this is what she wants to know?

“You stopped me to make fun of me?” I snap.

Ashley sighs. She seems to be collecting herself, like she didn’t mean to blurt that out.

“I’m also a kissless virgin,” she admits, voice softer now.

“Oh...” I reply brilliantly, completely thrown off balance.

Her eyes lock with mine, searching. “Do you still have your creepy crush on Caroline?”

I exhale slowly, which is answer enough.

“Well, I’ve got a crush too,” she continues, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Okay,” I respond, wondering where this bizarre conversation is heading.

“On her boyfriend, Dante.”

I cock an eyebrow, still lost. “Alright?”

“They’re swingers, Vince,” she says, leaning in slightly.

“What?” The word comes out as a strangled whisper.

Ashley nods, her expression dead serious. “Caroline and Dante. They swing. They hook up with other people.”

My brain short-circuits, trying to process this information. Caroline. Sweet, gentle Caroline, is into swinging? With that douche Dante? It doesn’t compute.

“How do you even know this?” I demand, suddenly suspicious. Ashley and I haven’t spoken in years. Why would she know intimate details about Caroline’s sex life?

Ashley rolls her eyes and leans against the wall, looking way too comfortable for the bomb she just dropped.

“They’re pretty open about it. I’ve overheard them in the library last year. They’re were always trading with other couples like them.” She lowers her voice. “Though this morning I heard Dante complaining there aren’t a lot of options lately and...” Her eyes light up with that familiar scheming glint I haven’t seen in years. “I got to thinking this could be my chance.”

“Your chance?” I repeat dumbly.

She grabs my arm, fingers digging in with surprising strength. “Vince, this is your opportunity to fuck Caroline.” The crude word sounds strange coming from her mouth. “And for me, it’s my chance to get Dante to see me. Really see me.” Her voice drops to a whisper. “And then I’ll make him mine.”

I blink rapidly, trying to process this insanity. “But I’m not a swinger.”

“I have a plan,” she says with way too much confidence. “We both win, Vince.”

“What’s your plan?”

She smiles like she’s just solved world hunger. “We pretend to date and then we swing with them. It’s so simple.”

My mouth falls open. “But I’m a virgin! I can’t just lose it like that...”

Ashley’s expression softens just a fraction. “I get it. I had that thought too.” She glances around to make sure we’re still alone. “If we’re going to swing with them, we need to be experienced. Confident in our sexual prowess.”

“So then there’s no chance,” I mutter, already feeling the familiar weight of disappointment settling in my chest.

“No, Vince,” she says, stepping closer. “Part one of my plan is you and me...” Her voice drops to a husky whisper. “Every day... sucking and fucking... practicing on each other until we’re finally good enough for the big leagues.”

I make a choking sound that might be a laugh or a cough or possibly my soul trying to escape my body.

“And then Dante will want to be with me,” she continues, her eyes glazing over slightly. Then she focuses back on me with laser precision. “And look at that, if Dante’s mine, you can even shoot your shot with Caroline. And since you’ll have been literally shooting your shot inside her at that point...” She winks. “Who knows? Maybe she’ll even accept you.”

My brain has officially blue-screened.

“You want us to... to practice sex... together?” I finally manage.

Ashley gives me a look like I’ve just asked if water is wet.

“What choice do I have?” she huffs. “All my friends here are complete losers, and I’m not about to trust some random guy who’d agree to something this insane.”

“Except me?” I raise an eyebrow.

“You’re a known entity, Vince.” Her voice softens just slightly. “I know you won’t fuck me over.”

“We haven’t even talked in years, Ashley.”

She rolls her eyes. “What, since you asked me out as a prank?”

My heart drops into my stomach. All this time, she thought that confession was fake? That day in her backyard, sweating through my T-shirt, stumbling over words I’d practiced for weeks. She thought it was all a joke?

“It wasn’t a…“

“Who cares what it was, Vince?” she cuts me off with a dismissive wave. “It’s pointless now.” Her eyes narrow, calculating. “So what’s it going to be? You in or out?”

I stare at my shoes, mind racing. “I don’t know...”

“Am I really so unappealing that you won’t even consider it?” There’s an edge to her voice now, something vulnerable beneath the challenge.

“It’s not that...” My palms are suddenly sweaty, and I wipe them on my jeans. “I don’t know. Isn’t it supposed to be...special?”

Ashley lets out a harsh laugh. “If you say no, I’m just going to find someone else who’ll get to fuck Caroline.” She delivers this like a checkmate move.

I hesitate, torn between the fantasy of Caroline that’s lived in my head for years and the reality of what Ashley’s proposing. The silence stretches between us, tense and heavy.

“And,” she adds casually, “my mom made chocolate chip cookies this morning.”

My head snaps up. “Beth’s cookies are at your house?”

Mrs. Chambers’ cookies are legendary in our neighborhood. A cheap trick but damn if it isn’t effective.

I break. “Do you really think they’ll swing with us?”

“I do.” The confidence in her voice is absolute.

“Alright. Fine.”

Ashley’s face lights up. “Excellent.” She grabs my arm and practically drags me toward the exit. “Let’s go right now.”

“O-okay,” I stammer, nearly tripping as I try to keep pace with her determined stride.

As we cross the quad, my mind’s racing a million miles a minute. What the hell did I just agree to? The sunlight feels too bright, the campus too crowded, like everyone can somehow read on my face what I’m about to do.

“To think,” Ashley says with a sideways glance, “I had to practically twist your arm just to get you to take my virginity.” There’s a teasing lilt in her voice that makes my face burn.

“Jesus, can you stop?” I hiss. “This is already so awkward.”

“Yeah... And no cookies until we’re finished. I don’t want you getting sick and fucking this up.”

“Yeah, that’s fair.”
