Mira’s POV
The Pack Enforcement officers had nothing more to say.
Elias’s family might have been stubborn, but they had no legal right to stay there.
After discussing the situation among themselves, the officers told me, “If they haven’t moved out within three days, contact us again and we’ll have them removed.
But you need to give them some time to pack their belongings.”
”Fine.
Three days.”
I could barely stand being around Elias’s family for another second, but three days was the most Enforcement could give me.
After the officers left, I turned to Peter and Helen.
They looked furious.
“If you haven’t moved out in three days, I might just send my father’s hunting hounds after you.”
Elias’s relatives had only just gotten their rabies shots.
At the mention of the dogs, several of them visibly flinched.
I picked up my bag and headed for the door.
Before it closed behind me, I heard things being thrown inside, followed by Helen’s shrill curses.
I shut the door firmly, leaving all that filth behind me, and walked down the stairs without looking back.
But when I reached the stairwell landing, Peter’s voice came through the door.
He was practically shouting into his phone.
“Elias, are you going to do something or not? Mira actually called Enforcement to throw us out! She’s completely out of control!”
I didn’t stop to listen.
How Elias dealt with his parents was no longer my problem.
I went straight to my best friend Lena’s place.
Lena had just finished filming her latest movie.
When she heard that I was kicking Elias and his family out within three days, she burst out laughing.
“You should’ve done this ages ago! But better late than never. Dinner’s on me tonight. We’re celebrating.”
I told her about my father forcing me to undergo a Bond Verification earlier that day.
“What is there to celebrate? My relationship with my dad has completely fallen apart. He’s even cut off my Pack allowance.”
Lena waved dismissively.
“So what? He’s your father. He won’t really abandon you. Besides, I just got paid for my latest film. Spend as much as you want!”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
I knew Lena meant every word, but I didn’t want to become a burden to my best friend.
I leaned back against the sofa and thought for a moment.
“Don’t worry. I have a plan. I’ve entered the Sacred Moon Jewelry Design Competition hosted by Silvercrest Pack. If I win, the prize money is substantial.”
Silvercrest Group’s business empire was enormous, and jewelry was one of its major industries.
The competition was essentially Silvercrest’s way of scouting new designs for its upcoming collections.
The winner could enter into a partnership with Silvercrest under their own name or through a company, along with receiving financial backing from the group. This chapter was copied from novelping(.)com without permission.
Lena nodded.
“That’s a solid plan. Whatever people say about the Silvercrest Alpha, Silvercrest Group is still the most powerful Pack corporation around. If you can work with them, you’ll have nothing to lose.”
I suddenly remembered my previous life.
Marcus had tried to marry me into the Silvercrest Pack in exchange for their support.
I’d refused and never even seen Caelan Silvercrest’s true face.
After everything I’d been through, I wanted nothing to do with Silvercrest.
“The prize money alone will be enough,” I said.
“At least it will free me from relying on Mooncrest Pack financially. But I don’t want a partnership. The rumors surrounding the Silvercrest family are too disturbing.”
That reminded Lena of something.
She leaned closer and lowered her voice.
“Oh, I just remembered. A couple of years ago, when I was filming in Silvercrest territory, I heard that a maid caught Caelan Silvercrest’s attention. She was found dead not long afterward. Her family protested outside Silvercrest Group headquarters, holding banners and demanding answers, but the PR team shut it down almost immediately. Rumor had it they paid the family a fortune to make the whole thing disappear.”
I stared at her.
“So, including his two dead Mates, that’s three women who have died at his hands?”
Lena curled her lip.
“At least three. And who knows how many others we’ve never heard about?”
My heart pounded.
It seemed that no matter what I did, death found me in my previous life.
Even if I hadn’t run away with Elias and had married into the Silvercrest Pack, I might still have ended up dead.
Just then, Lena’s curiosity got the better of her.
“By the way, you mentioned a man who helped you at the hospital. Is he hot? What does he do? Anyone who can stand up to your dad like that must be someone important. Did you look into him?”
I thought about Cale.
“Lena, your fiancé works with the Silvercrest Pack. If Cale is really someone important, he’d know him. Could you ask him if there’s anyone named Cale?”
Third Person’s POV
Lena frowned.
“Cale? I’ve been filming in Silvercrest territory for the past two years. How have I never heard that name? I’ll ask Devin right now.”
She called her fiancé, Devin.
As it happened, Devin was with Caelan at the time.
He wasn’t only Caelan’s personal physician.
He was also his closest friend.
When Lena’s name appeared on his screen, Devin frowned slightly before answering.
“What is it?”
”Devin, are you busy?”
Lena’s voice softened unconsciously, completely different from her usual confident tone.
But Devin remained as cool and distant as ever.
“I’m busy.
If you have something to say, say it.
Otherwise, I’m hanging up.”
Lena quickly said, “Wait!
Do you know anyone named Cale?”
”Cale?”
Devin repeated the name and glanced at Caelan with a knowing look.
Then he said casually, “No.
Why?”
”Oh…
never mind, then.
If you don’t know him, he probably isn’t anyone important in Silvercrest.”
There was obvious relief in Lena’s voice.
Devin only asked impatiently, “Is there anything else?”
Lena wasn’t willing to waste the opportunity to talk to him.
She hesitated before asking carefully, “Are you free sometime this week?
I’d like to invite you to dinner.”
”Lena, this is only an arranged marriage.
We don’t need to have dinner together.”
His words instantly crushed her excitement.
Lena stared at the dark screen of her phone, the brightness in her eyes fading.
Mira noticed immediately.
“Lena, are you okay?
Did I interrupt Devin while he was working?
Is he upset?”
”No.
That’s just how he is.
He’s always cold and distant.
But he’s handsome and talented.
I believe I’ll win him over eventually.”
Mira smiled.
“Of course.
You’re the nation’s sweetheart now.
What man wouldn’t fall for you?”
Lena laughed, pinched Mira’s cheek, and teased, “With a mouth that sweet, I’d happily keep you around for the rest of your life!”
Then her expression turned serious.
“By the way, Devin said he doesn’t know anyone named Cale either. Looks like we were wrong. He’s probably nobody important in Silvercrest. Maybe he got himself into trouble with someone and had no choice but to run here.”
Mira thought for a moment.
“That makes sense. If he were really someone important, why would he have ended up being chased by men with guns?”
Lena nodded.
“Exactly. So don’t get involved with him again. You have no idea what kind of person he really is.”
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Devin looked at his friend and couldn’t help laughing.
“Cale? Since when does the Alpha of Silvercrest Pack go by that name?”
