Also locked in with them was a servant with graying hair—Aunt Wu.

“Second Young Madam, you’re young and thin-skinned, and the Second Young Master, well, his mind is damaged, so the Madam sent me to guide you two through the marital duties.”

Xu Chengyi’s face was full of embarrassment. “Is this really necessary?”

Aunt Wu slowly pulled on a latex glove in front of her and smiled. “It is. Please undress first—I’ll get everything ready for you, to make it easier for the Young Master.”

Xu Chengyi genuinely wanted to bang her head against the wall and die.

If she’d known there was a process like this, she should have died back in the Xu family.

Seeing that she wasn’t moving, Aunt Wu asked, “Or would you prefer I help you undress?”

Xu Chengyi glanced at the man sitting quietly on the bed, gritted her teeth, and threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around him and whining:

“Hubby, this old hag wants to watch us do it, and I’m so shy. Hubby, say something~”

The man stiffened, turned his head, and met Xu Chengyi’s innocent, pitiful eyes, his own filled with confusion.

Xu Chengyi clung to him with both arms, refusing to let go. “Hubby, I don’t want to see this old hag. Make her leave, okay~”

Aunt Wu’s expression didn’t change. “Second Young Madam, you should know that won’t work. Your days in the Song family depend on the Old Master and the Madam. The Second Young Master—you can’t rely on him.”

Xu Chengyi’s grievance surged up at once, and tears fell from her eyes.

If she’d known the wealthy families were this hard to navigate, she never would have been foolish enough to believe their sweet talk and come back to claim her family name.

Sure, her old life had been a bit tough, but at least she’d had the freedom to do it without some old hag watching.

Xu Chengyi and Aunt Wu were at a standoff, the atmosphere silent.

Tears dripped onto Song Wenzhou’s hand one by one. He slowly lifted his eyelids and said to Aunt Wu, “Don’t bully her.”

Even with his mind damaged, his gaze still carried authority. Aunt Wu didn’t dare meet his eyes and murmured, “This is the Madam’s order.”

He didn’t respond.

Xu Chengyi secretly glanced at Aunt Wu. Seeing that Song Wenzhou’s words had an effect, she cried even louder.

“Hubby, I don’t want to see this old hag. We’re living people, not some cheap animals—even doing it can’t be watched by others. Even a hundred years back in time, there was no such rule…”

Song Wenzhou said to Aunt Wu, “You leave first.”

Aunt Wu stood still, and only after a long pause said, “Second Young Madam, I know you weren’t favored in the Xu family. Marrying into our Song family is your good fortune. Your primary task right now is to bear children for the Song family.”

“The Old Master and the Madam’s intention is for you to conceive within three months. As long as you get pregnant, the cooperation project between the Xu Corporation and the Song Corporation can be launched.”

“You’re tied to the family’s interests, so I hope you’ll stay in line.”

“If you’re unwilling, you can say so plainly—there are plenty of people outside fighting to be the Second Young Madam.”

With that, the door opened, closed, and locked.

Xu Chengyi let go of the man, but her tears kept falling without end.

No wonder none of her sisters were willing to marry that handsome but brain-damaged man.

She’d thought she’d gotten a bargain—turns out this was the trap waiting for her.

Suddenly, a hand with distinct knuckles reached over, and warm fingertips gently wiped the tears from her cheek. He said, “Don’t cry.”

Xu Chengyi looked at him with tearful eyes and pouted in grievance. “I can’t even cry now?”

Song Wenzhou turned his gaze away. “Cry, then.”

Xu Chengyi’s tears fell like pearls off a broken string, more and more.

Meanwhile, downstairs, the wedding banquet had yet to end.

A lavish feast of the wealthy, celebrities gathered, glasses clinking, lights blazing.

Aunt Wu searched through the crowd for the Second Madam, Meng Aoshuang, and reported the situation in full.

Meng Aoshuang slowly lifted her eyelids. “Forget it. She’s not in a hurry—there are plenty of others who are.”

Aunt Wu hesitated and asked, “Do I need to use some methods?”

Meng Aoshuang frowned and shot her a sharp look. “Keep anything that harms the body far away.”

Aunt Wu apologized repeatedly. “I’m sorry, I was thinking too narrowly.”

“What’s wrong?”

A refined middle-aged man walked over with a wine glass in hand.

Aunt Wu lowered her eyes deferentially. “Second Master.”

Meng Aoshuang waved Aunt Wu off, and she took the hint and left.

Song Zhishan raised his hand, resting his glass on the windowsill.

“That little girl isn’t too obedient.” Meng Aoshuang pinched the bridge of her nose.

Song Zhishan’s tone was flat, without any fluctuation. “If she’s not obedient, teach her more.”

Meng Aoshuang was displeased with his attitude, and her voice turned cold. “If you hadn’t loosened your stance back then, we wouldn’t have let such an ignorant country girl marry in. Is Wenzhou even your son!”

Song Zhishan furrowed his brow, tossed out a “You’re being unreasonable,” and turned to leave.

Xu Chengyi wasn’t favored, but she was marrying in place of the second granddaughter the Old Master of the Xu family doted on most. The Old Master would never treat her poorly.

Because of the guilt toward the Song family, their future dealings would only increase, never decrease.

That was the benefit the man saw.

Xu Chengyi cried for half an hour, until she was tired of crying and resigned to her fate.

Song Wenzhou heard her fall silent. “Done crying?”

“Mm.”

Song Wenzhou asked, “What’s your name?”

“Xu Chengyi.”

“How do you write it?”

“However you want to write it.”

“Mm.”

“Song Wenzhou, from now on you’re my husband, and I’m your wife. You have to protect me.”

“Mm.”

Xu Chengyi tugged at his sleeve and said seriously, “Don’t just say ‘mm.’ Even a random servant in your house could bully me. You have to stand up for me, or I’ll die right in front of you.”

Song Wenzhou looked at her eyes, swollen from crying, and gave a slight nod. “Got it.”

With his promise, Xu Chengyi bit her lower lip lightly, raised a hand, and gently pulled down the strap of her dress. “Then we…”

Song Wenzhou’s gaze landed on her chest, and he immediately looked away. “What are you doing?”

It was only a five-minute matter anyway; it had to be done sooner or later. Xu Chengyi mustered her courage and leaned in to kiss his lips.

Song Wenzhou’s body stiffened. He shot up with a start and strode quickly into the bathroom.

Xu Chengyi was stunned. She lowered her brows, starting to doubt herself: “Am I too young?”

Well, that wasn’t her fault. If anyone was to blame, it was the Xu family—they hadn’t found her and brought her back sooner, leaving her to drift outside, never eating well. It was only natural she hadn’t developed fully.

She put the dress back on and muttered, “I don’t care if you like it or not. I think it’s just right—slim waist, long legs, perfectly proportioned.”

Before long, the sound of water in the bathroom gradually faded. The man emerged wearing a light blue silk robe, his broad shoulders and narrow waist cutting an impressive figure that drew Xu Chengyi’s gaze.

Song Wenzhou met her somewhat odd look but paid it no mind. He simply lifted the blanket on the other side and lay down.

Xu Chengyi got up, walked into the bathroom, and took a comfortable shower.

The wedding room was a small suite, fully equipped with a living area, study, walk-in closet, and bathroom.

Xu Chengyi wrapped herself in a towel and walked into the walk-in closet.

Her old clothes from PDD, bought for nine ninety-nine, had all been thrown away, replaced by a closet full of brand-new designer clothes, shoes, and bags.

The amber-tinted glass cabinets were tidy and spotless, like display cases.

She searched for a while before finding the cabinet with the nightgowns.

All of them were V-neck silk slips, feeling expensive to the touch and a little provocative.

She picked out a cream-colored one, changed into it, and turned back to the bedroom.
