Several railway police officers quickly restrained Zhou Chunhua and Hu Ming.
When everyone saw Li Gang’s credentials identifying him as a police officer, the chaos immediately subsided.
Someone seemed to realize what had happened and asked, “So you’re a police officer! Then you already knew these two were suspicious, and that’s why you came over to save that young girl, right?”
Seeing that both suspects had been brought under control, Li Gang finally turned to explain to everyone.
“Just now, Comrade Su Man came to me and said she had discovered two people who appeared to be child traffickers. She also explained her reasoning. We’ve actually received several reports recently about single women disappearing while traveling by train.”
“But we were worried about wrongly accusing innocent people, so we set up this little operation.”
Everyone turned their eyes toward Su Man once again. No one had expected that this young woman would be the one to see through the two cunning traffickers.
They couldn’t help praising her.
“Young comrade, you’re incredible! How did you figure out that something was wrong?”
“Exactly! When we saw that woman crying and looking so distraught, we really thought she was the girl’s mother. That villain was such a convincing actress!”
“And that doctor! He looked so refined and scholarly, just like an intellectual. Who would’ve thought he’d turn out to be such a heartless criminal!”
Su Man didn’t keep them in suspense and explained everything honestly.
“At first, when I saw them, I just felt that something was off. The moment this young woman fainted, someone immediately appeared claiming to be a doctor. The whole thing seemed as if it had been rehearsed beforehand.”
“What really made me suspicious was what this so-called doctor said. Someone in my family is a doctor. Shock can clearly be life-threatening, yet he made it sound like it was nothing serious. That was when I became certain he couldn’t possibly be a real doctor.”
“I deliberately pretended that I had a stomachache and asked this man to take my pulse. I’d only recently had a physical examination at my workplace, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with me. Yet he deliberately made up a diagnosis. That was when I knew he was a fake.”
“And this so-called mother was even stranger. The moment she heard what the doctor said, she immediately believed him, without showing any real concern at all. There could only be one explanation—they were probably working together.”
“Then there was the fact that the girl’s complexion was rosy and she didn’t look sick at all, yet she couldn’t be woken up. I suspect they drugged her. Their whole performance was probably meant to make it possible to take the unconscious girl away without arousing suspicion.”
Only after hearing Su Man’s analysis did everyone finally understand.
The crowd looked at the two traffickers with fury and couldn’t help cursing them.
“People like this deserve to be taken out and shot! Who knows how many innocent girls have fallen victim to them!”
“These heartless monsters! What kind of depraved thing would do something like this? They’re no better than animals!”
One person after another hurled abuse at Zhou Chunhua and Hu Ming.
The two of them had looked ashen ever since they were caught, and now they couldn’t even lift their heads under the crowd’s furious scolding.
They had truly suffered an unexpected defeat.
They had never imagined that such a seemingly delicate young woman would see through a scheme they had successfully carried out several times before.
And she had exposed them without even letting them realize what was happening.
They had thought they’d hit the jackpot today, managing to ensnare two prime targets at once. Instead, they had ended up falling into their own trap.
Only after hearing the whole story did Sun Qinqin finally understand what had happened. She realized that if it weren’t for this clever and beautiful young woman standing before her, she probably would have been taken away by these people to who knew where.
Overcome with emotion, she grabbed Su Man’s hand and thanked her sincerely from the bottom of her heart.
“Thank you, Su Man. If it weren’t for you, those people really would have taken me somewhere I don’t even know! You’ve saved my life!”
Sun Qinqin’s hands were trembling slightly. She still hadn’t recovered from the fear of what might have happened, and even her voice was shaking.
Su Man gently patted her hand to comfort her.
“Comrade Qinqin, it’s all right now. The police have caught the bad guys!”
Just then, the train arrived at the station. Li Gang and his colleagues escorted the two suspects off the train. He then turned around and spoke gently to Sun Qinqin and Su Man.
“Comrades, I’m sorry. We didn’t do our job well enough and frightened you. But we’ll still need your cooperation in giving statements. We have to make sure these two criminals are brought to justice.”
Su Man and Sun Qinqin nodded. They gathered their belongings and followed Li Gang and the others out of the carriage.
A group like this, with two suspects being escorted in the middle, naturally drew a great deal of attention. Everyone stared curiously.
Those who knew what had happened quickly explained it to the others. As soon as people heard that the two were child traffickers, they became furious. Some of the more hotheaded passengers looked as though they wanted to rush over and beat them.
Fearing that the crowd might surge forward, Li Gang and the others quickly led the suspects away.
Su Man and Sun Qinqin fully cooperated with the police and once again recounted everything that had happened. While telling her story, Sun Qinqin couldn’t help tearing up again.
She was overwhelmed with gratitude toward Su Man. If this young woman hadn’t stepped forward, she would probably have been doomed.
Li Gang and the others were eager to interrogate the two newly captured suspects and see whether they could follow the trail and uncover the entire trafficking ring. If they could, they might be able to rescue other victims more quickly and prevent other girls from falling into the same trap.
Su Man and Sun Qinqin were taken to a waiting room.
Su Man looked at Sun Qinqin, who was still tense with emotion, and sighed inwardly. The girl had truly been terrified today. Fortunately, the water from her space had worked so well. Otherwise, without any evidence, this situation really could have been troublesome.
Su Man took the initiative to chat with her, hoping to distract her and help her relax.
Gradually, Sun Qinqin finally began to loosen up. As they chatted, they suddenly discovered something that left them both astonished.
They were actually headed to the same place.
Sun Qinqin’s eyes immediately lit up. At last, a smile appeared on her face, and her voice was filled with delight.
“Manman, I can’t believe you’re going to our military district too! I came to the capital because the hospital sent me here for further training. I was originally supposed to return with a colleague, but something came up and he had to stay a few more days. I never imagined I’d run into something like this!”
“Good thing I met you. When I get home, I’m going to tell my parents to thank you properly! From now on, you’re my lifesaver—and my best friend!”
Su Man hadn’t expected things to work out so coincidentally either. Sun Qinqin was actually headed to the very same place as her.
In her previous life, Wang Yong’s family had kept such a tight watch over her that practically no one in the village was willing to associate with her. She had always been alone and never really had any friends.
Seeing the sincerity in Sun Qinqin’s eyes, Su Man couldn’t help smiling as well. She said playfully, “Well, I’m not going to be polite about that, then. I’m also here to visit relatives this time. When the time comes, I’ll definitely come over and eat and drink at your place!”
Sun Qinqin patted her chest boldly and promised, “No problem! I’ll take care of all your meals!”
The two girls looked at each other and smiled.
At last, the gloom that had hung over the train began to slowly lift.
