Chapter 21: Unveiled. All that glitters isn’t gold.

Stepping out of the shower, looking through the open door to the bathroom at my bed where Jessie sat, I noticed she stared at the floor with a contemplative look. Drying off, I threw on a clean pair of the same clothes I wore yesterday. Walking over to her, I spoke up.

“What’s got you looking so down?” Trying to keep my voice light, I decided to poke a little fun at her. “You’re not thinking you somehow forced me or something are you?”

Snapping her head up at me, I saw that her face was back to having half of it covered by her hair. Lone eye widened, she soon narrowed it and crossed her arms.

“You’re messing with me aren’t you?” She said in a deadpan tone of voice. Seeing me nod, she smiled before having that turn into a frown. “Koal.” Standing a little straighter at the seriousness in her voice, I stayed quiet. “You…do you know what this place is? Do you have any knowledge on how this institute works?”

Looking at her curiously, I shrugged my shoulders.

“It’s like the name says right? They’re here giving a helpful hand to those that need it.” Watching her expression turn into one of disappointment, I scratched my cheek.

“Koal.” Jessie began slowly. “This place is only like that from the outside or to brand new occupants.”

Feeling a sense of dread at her tone of voice and the way she was looking at me, I asked her to clarify.

“What are you talking about Jessie?” Taking a seat next to her, I watched a couple droplets of water drip from her hair showing the proof that she cleaned up in the shower before me.

“Koal.” Again with that serious tone, she fully turned to face me. “This place isn’t just a heart warming place that can help anyone who needs it. The people here…once they make sure the boys are used to some of the less demanding jobs…they start pressuring them to do certain things.”

Feeling that I knew where this was headed, I sat there, quiet.

“It starts off how it did last night for you…no actually they must have changed a couple things because when I worked here they didn’t even give some boys the chance to adapt.” Eye turning to look at her lap, her voice lowered. “The new way must be that they have you entertain a few people, get comfortable, and once you feel the safety from the presence of the guards they let you get as drunk as you want. I’m sure after that, they bring you to the upper floors so it’s harder for you to say that you resisted. After taking a few photos that look like you’re having fun, they blackmail you in whatever compromising position you’re in and threaten to tell everyone that it was your idea if you go to an officer or tell anyone with an authority position. You’re basically forced to become a prostitute and knowing you have nowhere to go, they’re confident you won’t ever leave.” Eye getting misty with unshed tears, Jessie seemed to beg for me to believe her when she looked at me. “When I started here it was much worse.”

Closing her eye to take a deep breath, she continued.

“When I got here, after I failed nursing school and couldn’t find anywhere that would hire me, they told me I could instantly be a guard since I had already just gotten my Ekans from a trainer who thought she was worthless. They said I would be paid in good money and…other things, so I agreed.” Hands shooting forward to grab my shoulders, she forced me to look deep in her visible eye. “It was horrible Koal!” She let out a shuddering breath. “They had me go to the fifth floor immediately! They had just gotten a new male that needed help and he looked around your age! Th-they…they…they made me stand at the door after he was led in. He looked so excited…so innocently happy that he was getting help from people, but that quickly changed. There were five random women in the room, one of the bigger ones with muscles walked over to him, she just…slapped him across the face and tore his clothes off! The others just laughed! He just walked in and he was already naked and crying so hard…hic…they made him undo their pants and eat them out. They yelled at him and told him he would get horribly beat if he didn’t wipe his tears and smile. Eating out the pussy of one that slapped him, he managed to fix his face just the way they wanted, and they took pictures of him with his tongue on each of their pussies while smiling. They told him that if he ever went to anybody that nobody would believe him and that no woman would ever want him after what they were going to do to him that night. I couldn’t do it!” Shaking her head Jessie closed her eye tightly and released me, putting her face in her hands as her elbows rested on her knees. “I left! One of the guards told me that if I stayed, I would be able to fuck any of the guys I wanted! That I could use the money that I got from my paychecks to have an unlimited supply of dick since the Game Center already feeds and clothes us! I couldn’t do it, knowing what it felt like to have no power, to just want someone to help and get nothing in return from my life growing up in the orphanage and being on the streets, I just felt like I wouldn't be able to look at myself for taking advantage of people that were similar to me!”

Completely breaking down, Jessie's hard sobs wrecked her body.

“Then after a while of being back on the street, you came and checked up on me!” Turning to face me again, I saw tears traveling down her visible eye and even witnessed some coming down from the area where her other eye was covered. There was even a little snot coming from her nose. “No one had ever done that, but I just thought you were making fun of me a little when you mentioned Helpful Hand, that you were a guy from the institute trying to bait me back! That’s when I saw the Jenny, that’s when you came back to give me money from your own pocket, even when you were going to a place that was supposed to help you!” Coming forward, she hugged me around my waist hard, and all I could do was reciprocate with my own hug. “I couldn’t let the chance of a kind hearted man like you being turned into something unrecognizable, not when I could go back and watch over you, not when I could prevent things from going too far! Thank Arceus they put you on the first floor! Thank Arceus that you managed to get just slightly horny women and not depraved beasts!”

Feeling her shake and hearing her hiccup, my own thoughts went dark.

“So it’s really like that huh?” I thought with a sarcastic laugh at myself.

Of course I noticed some things wrong the moment I came here, but with the way everything had been going in this world so far, I really didn’t want to expect that every girl was going to come at me with assault in their minds. I mean I met Jenny and Nurse Joy, hell I even ended up with Jessie being at my side because I made sure to keep an open mind. There’s also the fact that some women in my old world constantly see everything a man does as possessing evil intent. I didn’t want to behave like that.

“Still.” Frown coming on my face, unseen by Jessie since we were still hugging, I grit my teeth. “By trying to swing in the other direction of not assuming the worst, I may have swung too far and ended up ignoring things that were right in front of my face.”

Jessie’s warning was the first clue. Of course now it makes sense, but at the time I immediately dismissed it as a homeless person giving a baseless warning. After all, just telling me I shouldn’t go somewhere because I’m handsome? That could be said literally about anywhere, and just like in my old world where some people saw the worst in any situation, I just assumed Jessie was giving me a jaded form of her own opinion, so I ignored it.

The second clue was something that really couldn’t be considered my fault. Watching Brenda walk out of the office with her clothes disheveled and sweating with an odd smell could mean several things. What kind of over paranoid weirdo would immediately assume the worst from our first meeting? Sure she had the same look some of those rapey villains gave off in anime or manga, but why jump to that conclusion? Wouldn’t I be just as bad as those women in my old world who shallowly judged someone based on appearance? I kind of did it with that NTR looking woman, but she had already come up to me spewing the same lines that I knew from memory that those types would do. Those two situations weren’t even close to being the same. I’m still not even sure that Brenda was doing something weird in her office, she was sweating when I met her again at the casino and maybe since she was in a closed space she was overly hot and had taken off her shirt to cool down and threw it on when she heard Jenny had arrived. The smell could come from her being in a closed space sweating as well. I don’t have any hard proof that suggests she was doing something nefarious, it’s best to be logical and not an assumption machine.

My third clue was kind of harder to ignore, but once again I didn’t want to assume the worst. Especially since Jenny and Nurse Joy were the ones who told me about this place. Asking Jenny to ball her Growlithe wasn’t weird to me. I rarely see anyone walking around with their Pokemon by their side so maybe there’s some type of rule against it in populated cities or towns. Plus her reasoning for it seemed very likely. No, the thing that was harder to ignore was her word choice.

“Reeducation.” I remembered.

That could mean too many things, and while I did feel it was odd, not knowing what I did now was a big factor on why I didn’t focus on it too much. Why immediately take a word that could mean several things and assign it to the negative? I won’t be an overly paranoid person that hears a word and tries to turn it to the worst possible meaning. I won’t let my mind deteriorate like that.

The last clue could be said to be my fault, but did I honestly think so, even with all the previous clues I mentioned? No. Watching a man who looked like he was getting fucked a little against his will was not really anything to go up and arms about. We’re in what would basically be considered a homeless shelter, and I didn’t know about them giving us jobs before I put it completely out of my head. In my old world plenty of women would sell themselves to get a quick buck if they were homeless or lacking any income, so why wouldn't it be the same if the roles are reversed? Sure it seemed like the guy was kind of against it since he mentioned her not paying yet but she could have already been a common clientele for him. He sure seemed like he knew her intimately. Him mentioning someone getting mad could mean that he would just tell someone that's higher up that she’s making unwanted advances, but since he was mentioning not being paid yet, I just assumed he was going to lie to someone that she forcefully assaulted him, the way he mentioned guards could also not mean much. What kind of place that housed several people down on their luck didn’t have guards after all, especially when all that separated the two genders was a hallway?

At best the only way you would be able to come to the right conclusion would to already have information that I didn’t, or assume the worst from the get go, which I didn’t want to do.

“And now it’s coming to bite me in the ass.” I think with another sarcastic laugh.

All there’s left for me to think now is simple.

“Just what do I do?”
